    You Know You're A Metalhead When . . .

    by zummazumma » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:43 pm

...You cut the sleeves off of your denim jacket so it would fit over your leather jacket.

add your own, how do YOU know you're a metalhead?

    ... when you book a cabin on 70k T.O.M.!!

If beer and travel = metalheadness, then I fail miserably.

But, you know you are a metal head when your family held their ears while eating at your weddnig reception and booked out of there as soon as they could. :shred:

esp since when I did it I made 8-10.50 per hour. I was going to write a book on how to do a european festival on a shoestring budget.

Not really, everyone is different. I would actually die for heavy metal. If suddenly all the metal in the world was no more. I would cease to exist. :viking:

That is awesome. I want to go to a euro metal festival before I die. Wacken looks like the most crucial festival. Why is all the best music in Europe?? When I see you on the Majesty Of The Seas you gotta give me some tips on going to a European Festival.

There are a lot of better smaller metal festivals in Europe than Wacken.
Personally i don't trust the organisres for that festival after the Metaltix incident.
Metaltix is the biggest online metal ticket seller in Europe and owned by Wacken.
Because of the lack bad security they have on the Metaltix site hundreds or possibly even thousands of people had their credit card info stolen and used to purchase stuff up to several thousand euro online.
There's deffintly something suspicous when a company as big as Wacken will not make any offical statements on the Wacken site or the Metaltix site about the incident.Instead they are trying to hide the issue.

It was not that hard. I posted back on the old Metal Maniacs forums in 98-2000 and met a dude from the East Coast who was in the army stationed in Germany...... It went from there. Some of my airfare I got back then was like 320.00 round trip to Franfurt and shit. He first lived in Nuernberg (sp) so for two of the years we did Wacken we drove all the way from there on the autobahn to Wacken (12 fucking hours or more) I was glad when his family (wife and kids) moved to Frankfurt. :) So same thing, I know people in Sweden and Norway that I can go visit and stay with. Also in Holland. And Ireland (though I have yet to go there but want to).

Just meet people. this forum is a great place! I am sure there are tons of people who would extend their couch for a day or two while you went to a festival!! Germany is the best as far as prices go

Also- I write for my own webzine since 2000 so I never did pay for the 15 metal festivals I have gone to over there. I save hundreds by getting a vip pass. Then write a review for the fest. :)

I remember being so broke one time that I just ate once a day and drank the entire time

Norway is the most expensive country I have visited. I hear Japan is mad as well.

But 7 or 8 dollars for a beer in Norway is outrageous. And the beer is gross. I hate Ringnes and Hansi

Finland is also expensive as hell, but 8 dollars?!
Not even in really expensive bars here you get that kind of price!

You know you're a metalhead when..

You tell people at work that you are going on a cruise with 40 bands playing and they have not heard of any of them! :shred:

But they can tell you who is left on American Idol, what Beyonce is up to, or when Dave Matthews band is playing next.

    You know you're a metalhead...

When one of your fondest memories of college is all the instances of elevator moshes while in the elevator with a couple of friends and no one else. The looks of the people waiting outside when the doors opened was priceless...

Had it ended more tragically, I suppose that could have qualified us all for a Darwin Award or even gotten us a spot on "1,000 Ways to Die". But, alas, we survived!

How 'bout when ya have a least favourite one? I think Janick would make the cut for this category for most Maiden fans. For me, it's not that I have anything against his playing style or musical contributions, it's just that he seems sort of out of place on stage with the rest of the band. I honestly find the way he seems to kind of prance around like a horse while playing to be pretty annoying. Dave and Adrian are the classic maiden pair, just like Glenn and KK for Priest, and any more than 2 guitarists just seems to be too much.

All that being said, ya gotta respect how he was brought into the Maiden fold when needed, did a commendable job and then they chose not to cast him out when Adrian returned. Clearly he's like family to the guys in Maiden and if means a thicker rhythm sound for Dave and Adrian to do their harmonizing solos over, who can bitch? I just wish he wouldn't take so many solos himself lol. Oh well...

Here's a story about his particular musical path that I found pretty interesting...

haha that has happened to us a few times before when we're playing out of town. Guys are legendary hungover and theres a man yelling through the door about needing the keys in 10 minutes or we don't get paid for the gig we played the night before (prior to getting obliterated). Yikes.

If any maiden fan has seen maiden live the past 10 years then they would know that Janick Gers rips/shreds and tears it up on stage. Awesome guitarist and one hell of a nice guy.

Like I said, nothing against his musicianship and, obviously, I've never met the guy so it's nothing personal. I just don't see the need for 3 guitarists in any band and his prancing stage presence strikes me as very unusual.

But I will concede I was probably out of line by implying I was speaking for 'most' Maiden fans. Bad assumption on my part. It's quite possible that many prefer him to Dave or Adrian.

....you go to Wacken for the first time (me in 2009), and you immediately start thinking - I've gotta come back here next year (Wacken 2010 here I come!!!) :headbanger:

....you check http://www.thecmf.com often for upcoming metal shows

....you book a metal CRUISE for christs sakes!! :viking:

....most of your (non-metal) friends and family think you are nuts (for liking the music you like)

....you get your nose pierced (finally decided to do this after seeing nose rings on lots of people at metal shows and elsewhere- love it!)

when your messenger nickname came from a Testament's lyric...

or when you take your life style from a Pantera's video

or when you wake up with the solo of Metallica's song One... or no matter what other song of Metallica...

or when most of your clothes are black... even when there is not a metal band on it....

or when you rather prefer to go to a concert and do headbanging, than stay quite watching a movie...

    :D
