I'm quite jealous too! However, we Americans get the cruise leaving from our turf ;)

To answer your question: Yes, we are awesome, all the time

I still find it funny the way Americans always use the term Europeans as huge generalization considering that every country within Europe is very different to the next.

p.s. I'm stuck on an Island in the arse-end of Europe, it's not quite as simple as going across a border to go to a festival for me. I manage though.

Not very different for us Swedes either :D

Though we do have a bridge to Denmark and a new bridge to Germany, but it's a long drive.

I used to go by bus to WOA from Örnsköldsvik, even though WOA is, more or less, in northern Germany it still took 23 to 24 hours for the bus to arrive.
During which time we were getting plastered of course!
But on the way home not so, then you're just hurting

Yeah, the one time I was in Sweden was for Sweden Rock Fest and it was easiest for me to fly to Copenhagen and get the train across to Solvesburg.

Bridge to Germany is news to me, but a great idea too.

Ever been to different states within the US? They are practically like 50 different countries. And don't even get me started on the territories

    nice information
Europeans are so lucky….they get so many small, quick cars at their disposable.
I've always admired the small hatchbacks like the Peugeot

Well, come to Finland and you're most likely not going to afford any such cars. A Dodge Charger V8 costs here about $90,000. And even a small hatchback, like the Peugeot 207 and its most basic version with the smallest engine ends up costing $30,000. Yeah, we're lucky.
To my understanding, only the Danes have more expensive cars in Europe than we though.

I had never seen these comics until my friend sent this link - they're so fun! This one about the American pronouncing the words cracks me up. Personally, I have a difficult time pronouncing most foreign languages except for German. Heck, I even have a hard time pronouncing English words sometimes! I had a running joke with someone on the cruise about not being able to pronounce malevolent as in the band Malevolent Creation :headbanger: who played from 3-4 in the morning one night on the cruise. Well, that was a late night after many beers and I couldn't say the word malevolent to save my soul. :P Of course I can say it now ma-lev-o-lent!

Well, at 3 in the morning after huge amounts of alcohol everybody would have problems with their pronounciation :D

Although I definitely get better at foreign languages after a few beers. I dare speak swedish only when I am drunk for example :D

Yeah, I'm not sure whether it's easier to speak foreign languages when drunk or if you just don't care so much about the grammar at that point.

And yes, Swedish can only be spoken when drunk. I bet even the Swedes are drunk when speaking Swedish.
Ah, I have a friend whose first language is Swedish (but speaks perfect Finnish) and when he's really drunk he can't speak Finnish (or any other language for that matter), only Swedish. So when that happens it's good to know at least the basics of Swedish.

I guess it's a bit of both. I'm often too shy to speak a language if I know I am not totally fluent, but I do it if I am drunk and don't care so much about saying something wrong. It feels as if the right words come to me easier but probably it's just the alcohol speaking :D And at a certain level of drunkness the process goes the other way and I have problems with any language :D

And Swedes are always drunk, so I guess you have a point there :D
But in spite of this I think Swedish is a beautiful language :)

 This conversation reminds me of the time I was on vacation in Berlin with a bunch of friends and we got really wasted at a metal bar (Halford's I think). At some point during the night I decided to stop speaking English and only speak German, which is fine since we were in Germany, but my friends don't speak a lick of German so I'm pretty sure they were a bit unhappy with me :? By the way, I don't remember any of it

Also, I thought Swedes could understand Danes and Danes could understand Swedes. I remember meeting a Swede and a Dane at Wacken and they were able to have a full conversation while each was slurring words in their native tongue.

Myself, I can't speak, or understand, Danish

I've been told I sound like queen Silvia :D But who knows maybe we'll run into each other at Tuska and we can do a test :)

And that's normal, Swedes never understand Danish for some reason, while Danes are used to having drunk Swedes around :D

Well, Danes and Swedes from Southern Sweden usually understand each other quite easily, but people from Stockholm or northern Sweden have difficulties understanding the danish pronounciation, I don't think they get danish tv either. But all Scandinavians can read the other scandinavian languages as they are very similar.

Gnoff, I will do my best to teach you some Danish :D I'm sure you will be able to learn some or at least to make me laugh my ass off which sounds like much more fun :D

Danes are used to be able to understand Swedes so they don't think that if you want to speak English, it's because you don't understand them :D That's what happens when we have Swedes visiting. They always switch to English, while I don't care if they speak Swedish because I understand 99% of it.

I know people from Skåne sais Rullebör for wheelbarrow and thought Danes said the same, but then wikipedia tells me you say Trillebør?

Next time in Denmark when they try to switch from English I'll explain that I can't understand them, see if that helps

Never heard anyone saying rullebør in Denmark, but then it's not a word you use everyday :) Maybe in Helsingør :D

And Danes are always happy to speak English like most Scandinavians. They really like to show off :D

If it's any consolation, I can barely understand the British and we speak the same damn language (I think)
