How was the Mastodon/Gojira/Kvelertak gig? I'm super stoked for tonight - listening to Mastodon's set-list from last night as I type.
1000+ posts - woot!
The show was great. The venue was sold out. It was very packed. We walked in and got stuck near the back for Kvelertak. They were good. Kvelertak had a technical problem during one of the songs. I think a bad cord. Gojira was the highlight for me. Their set sounded awesome and the lights were great. We were able to get a good spot right behind the soundboard before Mastodon. Mastodon was excellent. They changed a couple of songs from the earlier setlists on the tour. One was an older song I had wanted to hear. It was replaced with a song I am "eh" on. Overall, it is one of the top shows I have seen this year.
Your venue's start time looks to be same as mine was. If so, this is your schedule.
done around 11pm
Thanks for that info from yesterday....yep - they followed that schedule pretty close. I did enjoy the gig - excellent performances by all, so no complaints there. For example, it was pretty extraordinary to watch & hear Gojira's Mario Duplantier on drums....he's amazing. Having said that, I seemed to have a slight "disconnect" with both Gojira & Mastodon last night...no doubt largely due to just not being familiar enough with their music (my bad for not listening more to both beforehand; had really only listened heavily to Mastodon's Crack the Skye, Gogira's latest, and some random other songs here and there). Hmmm....not sure. I guess in comparison to some of the gigs (featuring some of my favorite bands, new and old) that I've been to this year that I was totally CRAZY about (for example, most all of the Prog Nation sets, The Ocean doing Pelagial, Godflesh, and the recent Metal Alliance gig (in particular BEHEMOTH and Goatwhore), I just wasn't "feelin' it" in the same way last night. I do plan on listening to more of their music though now that I've seen them live. Enjoyed Kvelertak very much as the other three times I've seen them, although I did prefer the setting of the smaller venues I've seen them in previously & being able to get really close. It was just too packed and too big a crowd last night to do that. I hadn't been to the Riviera in years and I forgot how big it is - holds over 2,000 and the gig must have been sold out or very nearly sold out.
Next gig: Black Label Society & Down at House of Blues May 20th!
