Is that Anneke as in Anneke van Giersbergen? I haven't listen to much of her new stuff, but I should, I LOOOVE her voice!

This is one of my absolute favourite videos (my other fav is Scorpion Flower by Moonspell which she is in also!) such a great song.

Well they had a really short set but they played the likes of Eyes Of A Stranger, Jet City and Empire. I think they only played 1 new song which was the opener. Really should have been a much longer set though. Still a great performance though!

Have an invitation to see Iron Maiden with Stained Class in Birmingham but I don't think I can go cause it's a Sunday and I have to work the next morning in a different city...

Might catch an Axenstar show in September. If I'm still here in October I also might see Satan and Alice Cooper. Lots of ifs though...

Well they always play really long sets in Mexico, because the fans are pretty enthusiastic (if the video from my crappy camera isn't too bad I'll upload), but they played the whole "we're here because we're here" album, as is on the CD and then did the oldies. They even played One last goodbye, which Vincent said they hadn't played in a while but had to play in Mexico :D. Though they've played it every time I've seen them (all in Mex haha). So yeah, they did make up for the cancellation, but it still would have been awesome to see an acoustic set on their first US tour, plus possibly with a photo pass. Ahhh I'm still excited over the concert though

I used to love Queensrÿche, but imo they really haven't put out anything listenable in over 15 years. What a shame.

No desire to see them onbroad unless it's all O:M, Rage, and Warning material.
Never take anything I say seriously.

Am I Evil? I am Dan. Yes, I am!

Yes . I figure if the concerts don't come to me, I will go to them, plus I try support the metal scene in Mexico. Had it been one day later I could have stayed the whole weekend, but oh well.

Nekrogoblikon's CD release show tomorrow in Santa Barbara, CA for me.

However, Holy Grail also announced a random show in Canoga Park -- which is about 5 minutes away from me -- and I'm sad I have to miss that.

Nekrogoblikon > Holy Grail though. Should be an awesome, awesome show. If any California people want to make the huge trek up to Santa Barbara, let me know, it starts about 7:00ish (Nekrogoblikon should be on around 10:00, I think).

My last gig was at The Red Owl, Phoenix, AZ. It actually went horrible: The bassist showed up in the middle of the third song and the stage pieces (drawings on canvas) were horrible because the gutarrist did them and he is not very good at drawing, so people were making fun of it. Also this place is the worst Bar ever, they have a no mosh policy and the worst is that for the most part they play metal... I know right? Retarded... So someone moshed before our show and the security got really agressive and punch someone, meaning a lot of people left after that... So yeah FUN...

You need better support bands and venues... stage pieces? Why bother unless they're semi-know? Even then they should be able to contract an artist for that type of stuff. Also, a venue should know t's crowd. Only throw out people who are misbehaving. If it's a metal show they should know that moshing is not misbehaving...

I completely agree with you. I had (we broke up after this concert) a band called Aces High (Iron Maiden's tribute) and the guitarrist was the one who sugested the idea of the stage pieces, bad idea I know... The worst is that my girlfriend is an artist and I told him that she could do an amazing job and he didn't want anybody else doing it. I know, control freak right? And yes I agree about the moshing thing.

    Have fun!

My next gig is a local Tucson band, Angelic to Ashes. The cool thing is, I will be there photographing them  . I'm trying to contact local bands to shoot them and then build a portfolio (and learn  ) then if I'm any good, I can contact some promoters and see if they're interested in using me.

    Yesterday show review:

Location: Velvet Jones; Santa Barbara, CA

Bands: Dark Vital Flames, Ana Kefr, Heart of the Void, Jahmbi, Nekrogoblikon

Review: This tour should be called "no clean vocals allowed" tour. I wasn't familiar with any of the bands playing before besides Nekrogoblikon, so I was ready to hear some good, new bands. I was probably the oldest person in the entire club at 24, so that was strange. Also probably one of like three people at the show that wasn't in a band. LOTS of girls/groupies there. This seemed to just be a super private show that I just wandered into.

    1 -- Dark Vital Flames
They were okay. Just okay. Lots of blast beats and nothing that really 'stood out' to me. The guitar work tried a lot to sound like old In Flames/At the Gates/Hypocrisy (who they list as their influences), but they're not fine-tuned enough (or don't play live enough) to pull it off yet. Definitely have some potential there though.

    2 -- Ana Kefr
Sweet Jesus, they killed it. Their vocalist/keyboardist is fuckin' phenomenal -- that kid has one of the best, deepest growls I've heard live (reminds me a lot of Chrigel from Eluveitie). Their guitarist doubles as a saxaphonist for some songs and he was fantastic as a technical musician as well. They define themselves as "extreme progressive metal" and I guess that fits. It was loud, it was heavy, and they totally got the crowd into it.

3 -- Heart of the Void
I'm sorry, but I just didn't get it. They have a vocalist, two guitarists, a drummer, and no bass player. The guitarists mother/grandmother was in the middle of the pit though, in heels, and it was awesome. She couldn't have been any younger than 65 years old and she was headbanging along and everything, so that made my whole show. The music was terrible but they seemed to have a lot of friends in the crowd, so I guess the audience didn't realize how technically unsound it was. Lots of timing errors and whatnot; drummer was playing too fast for the guitarists in some spots and whatnot. Sounded very disharmonious.

    4 -- Jahmbi
These guys were fun as hell. Combined weight for the group has to be about 2,000 pounds (907 kilos for our European friends); I don't know how they all fit on the tiny stage -- the keyboardist looked like he ate Nobeard from Swashbuckle. They were the only band of the night that had any semblance of clean vocals, though they didn't use them that frequently. They also brought a huge box of Famous Amos cookies and were throwing cookies at the crowd the whole time.
The chatter in between songs was hilarious.

I don't even know how to define their sound, they played a pirate metal song "Yo Ho" that was fucking awesome and then they played a 'video-game-metal' song called "Goldenaxe" that was probably the best song of the night by any of the bands. They had another song called "The Brutal Teabag" that makes fun of bands who do 'the dip' when they play their instruments (does anyone know what I'm talking about here?).

I can't find performances on YouTube where the sound doesn't suck, but I definitely recommend them. Not as good as Ana Kefr music-wise, but a ton of fun on stage.

    5 -- Nekrogoblikon
The reason I went was because it was their CD release party and they didn't disappoint. HOWEVER, their keyboardist/keytarist is no longer in the band! And Mooyagi will attest that that kid is fucking TALENTED. The strange part was that I saw him at the show before they went on stage, so I don't know what happened between the beginning of the show and the time they went on stage, but he didn't play with them.
As usual, they were hysterical in between songs and owned the stage; they have a really good stage presence and everything sounded crisp. Their guitarist Alex Alereza is phenomenal and they need to tour more and secure more a fan base. They really have what it takes to be huge.

    Next show. . .???????
