If you see a short disabled lady with green crutches seated on a chair on the right estrade (just before the bar), come to say hello, that will be me

Thanks Laura! I can't get over how many cruisers are going, its somewhere around 20 of us that I know of.
I am so damnably scared of the pictures that could come out from this trip

it's crazy how huge At The Gates shows are since their reunion... when I saw them in '96 it was at The Rat in Boston... Boston's always been a pretty metal town, and The Rat was definitely one of the smaller venues there... it's cool that AtG are gettin' the recognition now, anyway
(Which is kind of obvious, considering they are AT THE GATES! haha). Anyway, it is good to see that they are starting to get the recognition they deserve.

It is definitely a NOT MISS concert! and Rootleaf, while you may perceive them as unknown, i've never seen them play any venue without packing the place out, in several different cities, too.
Laura, glad you are going to DCD! Maybe the Fixx too?
Yes! I'm so looking forward to DCD! The Fixx is playing at a free summer fest in a Chicago suburb the end of August - don't know if we'll make it out there, but it would be fun for old time's sake. (great music too, of course!)
Last gig: Poi Dog Pondering last night at the Taste of River North street fest with family and some friends we met up with. They are quite the eclectic group (genre-wise) and we enjoyed them very much - good company, music, food, drink, & weather made for a great summer night.
Next gig: Back to Millennium Park with family & friends this Saturday to see: http://grantparkmusicfestival.com/2012- ... h-symphony .![]()
Hmmm....between the several 70s & 80s classic rock & pop acts, classical gigs, alt/indie groups like Death Cab, Poi Dog & My Morning Jacket, and unclassifible acts like Dead Can Dead I'm seeing this summer - this is turning into a very *un-metal* summer. Did I turn (back) into a pumpkin or something?![]()
Sounds amazing....and since I discovered on the Industrial Metal (and by default the Industrial) thread that my knowledge is spotty at best (not to mention that I missed much of what came out in the past 20 years or so

) - this sounds like the ultimate "best of/catch up" gig
- think I'll go. Also - Bottom Lounge has become my favorite venue in Chicago. You should make the trek north!

Laura wrote:There are a ton of great venues in Chicago, and think I've been to most (all?) of them. I like Bottom Lounge a lot because it is very convenient to where I live (ha - very important to me), the small to midsize capacity (700) makes for fairly intimate shows, it's super easy to get really close (also the stage is not too off the ground) so I've been about 3-5 feet away from people like Johan, Chrigel, Abbath, Nergal, Sascha, Heri, and others, the venue has a bar/restaurant in front with good food and band members often hang out there afterwards, the beer is cheap, and tickets are usually really reasonable. (the Industrial gig is $20 btw, unless you want vip for $50.
Those 3 Floyds special brews are pricy (and potent!).

Before a day or so ago I have never even heard of that one haha. I saw that Hell had a video from there and today on blabbermouth Exodus has videos too haha.

That's probably because it's not a metal festival. It's primarily a motorcross event where also bands are playing. It's quite big, around 150,000 people. But those are divided over the cross, the camping, the stunt arenas, the theaters and at least 10 stages, so the metal area is not so big at all. A nice festival, except for the extremely strict policies.

Yeah, there were about 1000 people at the show. Maybe more. But it was far from sold out, so I don't think they'll come back to Mexico. Crowd went wild, though. I'd never been scared of the moshpit before (and I've been to Slayer and Anthrax shows), but this one was quite brutal!![]()

Also, 1996? Wow, that must have been epic. And you can go hipster and tell everyone that you "Went to ATG shows before it was cool"

DrinkMoxie wrote:so, yeah, the Agalloch gig in Cleveland on Sunday was nearly perfect (they just needed to play "She Painted Fire Across The Skyline")... the only opener was Taurus, so after struggling through their set, Agalloch played over 2 hours with a double encore... it was great

Metal is brutal. Therefore, do it.

Second time I have seen them but this one blew the SXSW show away due to the 2 hour plus set. Ah, great band. And it is always nice to run into the resident Tampa forumers, Monmisreal and Daenerys...
Good to see both of you again. Man that Taurus band was intolerable
