Do you and Nick go every year?

this will be our 2nd year in attendance. i used to be a big Milwaukee Metalfest chick, then didn't really go to any fests for a while after that one broke my heart enough.

the fest typically was riddled with cancellations, sets being cut short, bands getting pissed, awful sound, etc etc etc and just ran for years and years and years until it ran itself out of existance. it was so much fun for a while until all of those factors ended up destroying the fest itself! bad promoter. but i did have good times there in the 90s.

Ah, yeah that wouldn't be fun having a festival just stop like that.

it used to be THE event of the year! my mom and i would count the days until the next Milwaukee metalfest after we had just finished one (kinda like the cruise i guess but far less expensive). i did meet some cool metalheads and great metal bands at those gigs. hung out with mikael akerfeldt, the guys from solitude aeturnus (they got stuck playing at the same time as slayer on another stage in 1994, but we saw them!), enslaved, satyricon, impaled nazarene, soilwork, etc.

I remember some of the dudes I knew from my college's radio station were pretty excited about Sodom being set to play MMF at some point (I think 2003 maybe?), but they cancelled...

I guess I really didn't miss out on anything then! Of course, back in 2001 I was just barely cracking the surface of REAL metal!

Looks like we are staying at the Tremont again most likely. Very convenient and a 5 star hotel. :)

My birthday dinner/drinks/party looks to be going down somewhere in Baltimore on Friday night. My birthday is Saturday but hell, look at that line up that day. :)

This will be my third year in a row going to MDF. Got my 4 day passes in hand and excited to see Winter, Morgoth, Agalloch, Today is the Day, Negura Bunget and Dragged Into Sunlight.

I really hope they bring back the Natty Bo in the venue this year too. I missed it.

Soooo did you know Don Dekker (RIP) I met him in New Jersey at March metal meltown. Funny guy. very vocal. But seriously they had two stages side by side separated by a curtain at that show. My roomates at the no tell motel (Knights Inn) were Doug Canipe (Chronic Disorder, Anti-Seen) and Chief Spires (ex Nile) . Talk about drunk for 3 days with crazy southern musicians.

Living in Minnesota, I knew Don well. He was a funny guy. Unfortunately though, he was unable to beat the bottle.

Basically my plan is to browse the merch during all the beginning bands OR hit up that dive bar we went to down the street. It was a fun little hole in the wall.

I was just lurking on the forums before the cruise, so doubt you would have recognized me if you did see me. I had a short drunken conversation with vikingbitch I think one night at karaoke, ironically enough about MDF I think. It was the first year on board for me. MDF is a small festival, so I'm sure I'll see you guys quite often there and I'll say hello because I'm not shy really.

It might be called that, I have no idea. You walk down some steps to get into in, real small place. It's on the street adjacent to The Sonar on the right side (assuming you are standing in front of the Sonar and looking at it).

Also, we have a couple of Facebook Groups for 70K, feel free to join those. If you can't find them, I'll send you the links :heavydrink:

Those and Morgion, Nasum & Napalm Death are high on my list of bands to see. Never was big on Godflesh, but I'm curious to see them live.
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!

Lucky for you the best ones can be found within walking distance of Sonar.

The best ones are located in Lexington Market place or whatever it is called. They are HUGE. This is my 4th year to MDF and I eat crab cakes several times during my 5 day stay.

Your welcome. I hope you like them there. They get the best review. Hell, I even had lump crab cakes at a Italian Restaurant in Little Italy in Balt. and they were killer. :)

While we are on the subject of food, I would also suggest Chap's Pit Beef. It is not close by, but we took a cab out there last year and it was awesome. They were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives too.
