Sounded like it....glad you said it!
Best not mention that my copy of the record came with a owners certificate with my name on it
Seriously listen to them, they are fucking killer. So earthy and organic sounding with truely heavy riffs and all the timeless old-school heavy metal ideals long forgotten. Plus lyrics exclusively about greek mythos as an added bonus. They have actually gotten a bit of a bad rep in the euro record-trader circle because they have had many offers for solid underground record labels to make their music more available, but the band isn't biting at all. Whatever, I'm on their list and they show no signs on losing their edge

This band is okay, The singer is a friend of mine and I've played a show with them. Their sound is adequate but they are pretty boring live. Actually, Rachel has seen them too, when she was in town. I dunno, you would be best to stick to Zions Abyss and Striker for your edmonton fix, Damian.
Zion's Abyss is long gone as far as I know, but you might have insider info. There are too many new up and coming bands around for me to fart around with bands that called it quits. I did like their singer and a couple of their non balladly tunes. Striker is a cool band, they remind me of bands like Enforcer and Cauldron. ( RIP Goat Horn ) I would like to see them live one day, not sure if they have ever come south of the border.
Musically Mortillery sounds like a ton of trash bands so if they are just "adequate" then there are a lot of adequate bands out there, guess since I am not a musician I don't pick up on their flaws, and can dig them. I think her voice gives them a special edge.
I think she sounds like a cross between the old singer Erika from Ignitor and Slymenstra Hymen. I really dig her voice and the way she structures her vocals. I really don't judge bands on their live performances usually cause it's the albums I listen to everyday. Plus if I did, I wound have given up on Nevermore and Sanctuary a long time ago for all the times I saw Warrel too fucked up to stand. =-P
Honestly from the few Mortillery songs I heard and the few Striker songs I heard, if I had to pick an album to buy right now, it would be Mortillery, cause I can't really go out and get an album with a someone with a voice like hers. Where as I know a few bands that could give me a Striker fix. Guess I am just weird! =-P
Thats the beauty of metal, your adequate band could be someone else's next favorite band.
