Magnum - I am in eternal gratitude to the person that introduced me to the music of Catley, Clarkin et al back in 1988
Alice Cooper - my longest running fandom since I listened to my big brother's Welcome to my Nightmare cassette sometime in the late 70s
Sabaton - my newest fandom, having only discovered them after they were announced for the cruise
Tyr - as above! Lay of Thrymm is album of the year for me thusfar. Glad I discovered them :)
Nightwish - especially Tarja-era. Counting LA and the cruise in January I will have seen them live 11 times
Helloween - another of my oldest metal fandoms from '88 when Bill Skirmer gave me a mix tape of Running Wild's Under Jolly Roger, and Keeper Part I
Blind Guardian - seeing them again next month!!
Within Temptation - I love Sharon's voice. May it never fade.
Iced Earth - Jon is the man. His lyrics and his ferocity and passion I admire greatly.
Sonata Arctica - They've produced some of my favoritist songs, and they are such a great bunch of guys.

Hm, these aren't all bands that I listen to now but they were sort of the progression of bands I listened to once I realised how much I hate rap.

    Linkin Park
    Seether
    Sum 41
    Metallica
    Iron Maiden
    Stratovarius
    Sonata Arctica

^ more or less went in that order and that was over 6 years or so.
On top of that I'll add

    Nevermore
    Symphony X
    Dark Tranquillity
    9 time cruiser

King Diamond - Dark and catchy and the real King of metal.

Suicidal Tendencies - only Cyco Miko really understands how I feel at times, yet he always gives me inspiration.

Blaze Bayley - Sometimes he is the Zen Psychologist i never had, his solo lyrics can be pretty genius at times.

Manowar - Would I even be a metalhead if I heard Metallica , Maiden or Priest before these guys? Or would I be listening to Easy E, Ice T and the Ghetto boys like everyone else in my neighborhood?

Skyclad - Only thing better than the fathers ( and mother ) of Folk Metal musically is listening/reading Martian Walkyier's lyrics.

Mercyful Fate - Dark and Hypnotic, feeds my darkness.

and the last four spots I reserve for bands I haven't even heard yet or might even find in some garage in a far away country. The new bands are the future, mine and metals.

Iron Maiden - not so much nowadays, but Killers was the first heavy album I heard
Uriah Heep - David Byron era
    Death - this is obvious
The Gathering - Mandylion was something completely different and a mind-blowing masterpiece and albums HtMaP? and onwards introduced another kind of dark music to me
My Dying Bride - again, a new kind of approach to metal for me
Primordial - Alan has to be the most intense performer in metal, both on stage and on albums
Within Temptation - Enter was easy to get into and the albums after that opened my ears to the more pop side of metal
Carcass - I've always preferred Carcass and similar, more metal grind bands over the hc or punk influenced bands like Napalm Death
Bathory - this is viking metal, forget about the cheesy, polished type (Amon Amarth and the likes)
Therion - from Theli to Secret of the Runes, this is how symphonic metal should be done - not too fond of the newer albums

I was about to include After Forever or Revamp on the list just to annoy Kevin, but I think two female-led Dutch bands is enough. Obviously, Hail of Bullets deserves a spot on the list, but them being a new band with just two albums out I decided to leave them off. All other bands are ones I've listened to at least since the 90's.

Well, I'll start with the bands that meant most to me while growing up:

    Megadeth
    Guns N'Roses
    Overkill
    Hanoi Rocks
    Smack

    More recent ones:

    Moonsorrow
    Ensiferum
    Kalmah
    Finntroll
    Korpiklaani

There are also some non metal bands like Sopor Aeternus, Diary of dreams, Das Ich and Cinema strange that I really love, as well as classic rock and 70's glam but it was supposed to be only ten bands :)

good list. aside from Blaze, all of those groups were super influential on me growing up.
2019 wishlist: Jon Oliva / Savatage, Ihsahn, Soen, Gojira, Jorn, Atheist, Emperor, Madder Mortem, Gorguts, Devin Townsend, Be'lakor, Shining, Bal Sagoth, Isole, Eleventh Hour, Daylight Dies, Luciferion, Alarum, Rivers of Nihil

All other bands are ones I've listened to at least since the 90's.

awesome list....so many influences of mine here too!

I really suck at this game. The rules are basically only giving me 2 bands per decade I've been here. WTF?

Definitely not even gonna try to go outside of the 'heavier' metal for the rockers like B.O.C./Kiss/Queen/Zeppelin/Pink Floyd/Neil Young/Blind Melon/Concrete Blonde/etc, etc, etc part of my musical world but I'll try to do ten metal bands. Let's see...

    Maiden
    Priest
    Scorpions
    Sabbath
    Dio
    Trouble
    Suicidal
    Testament
    Heathen
    Accept

I say if you're over 40, ya get to use your toes as well as your fingers! - C.O.C., Crowbar, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Saint Vitus, Death Angel, Armored Saint, Kreator & Destruction

 I haven't asked him this question yet (out getting my nails done in deep purple at the moment :headbanger: ), and he has NEVER been nearly the music fanatic I've always been, but I am very certain of three that would be on my husband's 10 ten list: The Who (definite #1), The Band, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. As for the others? Maybe Patsy Cline (I love her too), Supertramp, Van Halen, and assorted other "classic rock" bands, oh, and can't forget Chopin! We recently watched one of Amy Winehouse's last gigs on TV, and we were both really impressed!

Dare I say NONE. I'm not a big fan of Top 10 or any type of ranking order as these things always change for me all the time depending upon last release, my mood, the setting, etc, etc.

Bands come and go. I adapt. Life goes on. :death: :deathmetal: :death:

Yeah, I kind of wanted to specify that my answers were based on the 'music' of these bands from, in many cases, decades ago as I can live without the music some are making today. Ah well, just meaningless but fun discussion fodder. :wank:

    SWANS
    Agalloch
    Solefald
    Sol Invictus
    Slayer
    Falconer
    Hypocrisy
    Hank Williams Sr.
    Blind Guardian
    Wolfpack (Wolfbrigade)

Not in any certain order, but these bands are always on my playlist most often. Some aren't around anymore, but the music they left behind is pure gold.

10 Bands that I could not live with out.
This is hard considering my music collection.
It would have been easier if it were 10 discs that I could not live without.
    Blondie
    BonJovi
    Nightwish
    Dream Evil
    Mana’
    Def Leppard
    Prince and the Revolution/NPG
    Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac
    Motley Crue
    Jefferson Airplane-Jefferson Starship-Starship
Yes, my tastes are very varied.
