    Metal Funeral Playlist

    by ShoreSlayer » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:49 pm

Yes, I spend most of my days immersed in one line of morbid thinking or another. Deal with it :P

I can't imagine I'm the only one here who's ever heard a particularly kickass metal tune (or 50) and thought, "Fuck. I gotta remember to make sure that gets played at my funeral!" I have two friends who've told me about such song choices of their own over the years so I'm guessing it's maybe something a lot of people do but don't often talk about. So, in the (my) spirit of starting potentially unpopular threads based on dark thoughts and/or dumb ideas, I figured it'd be interesting to compile a list of these types of songs.

I think I could list of a dozen or so myself but I'll just start with one for now and maybe add more later if the thread ends up justifying it (Please paste the updated list after your contribution)

    Ozzy - Goodbye To Romance
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

    mine is most definitely

"When All Is Said" - Edge of Sanity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3F96zegyu8

been my funeral song of choice since i was 16 or so and it's one of the very very very few things i haven't changed my mind about!

i'm glad i didn't get my tatts when i was 18-19. i wanted a grim reaper and a skull. while those things are still metal, the tatts i have are much much more original to the point where i don't think anyone else in the world has them....and i like that much better! :death:

I can't think of any one specific song at the moment, but there's definitely a lot of FUNERAL DOOM that would be... uh... appropriate?

That bit aside... Amon Amarth - Runes to My Memory!

Great thread Rob! I thought of starting such a thread - but I planned on putting it on Off-Course since many of mine are mellow songs from non-metal bands

When Skaytanic Erik started the Your Soundtrack thread - this is what I wrote for what I want to hear when I'm dying because all these songs mean a lot to me and they are very soft and mellow for the most part which is the type of thing I want to "fade out" to. This list would also be nice for my funeral I think (although I don't want a traditional funeral).

From the Your Soundtrack thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2044 I added the links if anyone is interested ;)

Hmm can't say I've ever thought about this nor would I want to. The thought of death bums me out more than anything else in life. And if I'm dead and couldn't hear anything I really don't care what is played/displayed.

As long as its not anything religious based it's about what the significant others want to do.

Okay, serious and rational Kevin has left the building

Me too. It is so amazing.

Same here, I'm not very emotional or religious at all, but that song is mighty powerful (so is "When the Crowds are Gone" from the 'Tage) and it makes me get all teary eyed as well.

I've always thought that Opeth's "To Bid You Farewell" would be my funeral song.

Sorry to not follow the rules about quoting and such... I just think it may be too hard to go back and sift through all the posts.

The big one for me would most definitely be

    Devin Townsend - Deep Peace.

This song is incredibly emotional and beautiful and brings a feeling of acceptance to death.

there are quite a few songs I'd consider for funerals in general (or the deathbed) but I don't have a song for me - I hope, I still have some time for that ;)

    Margie, "Believe" is amazing!

    Skyclad - Constance Eternal
(if I remember correctly, Martin wrote this heartbreaking tune when his mother died)
    http://youtu.be/wGTGDQxG-k4
This world's just a rock - now a little bit lighter,
for me there's a void where your smile once shone.
A new star is born far bigger and brighter
than all of the others - that's where you have gone.

Blind Guardian - Harvest of Sorrow

    Rage - Fading Hours

    wishlist '20:
    Axxis - Blind Guardian - Circus Maximus - Doro - Edguy - Frozen Crown - Heavens Gate - Magnum - Opeth - Pretty Maids - Ravenous - Satan - Shadowpath - Silex - Skyclad - Steel Attack - Viathyn - Voyager - Wuthering Heights - 4th Dimension

Some de-railment, feel free to re-rail after.

We played Nightwish - Walking in the air in our wedding while cutting the cake.
Nevermind what they play in my funeral, I won't be listening.
