Grunge was part of the Metal Evolution for sure. It was a reaction to the 80s excess and fluff of hair metal/hard rock. It was anti-metal.
Metal ( here in North America I think) was pretty crappy from 90-98 or so. Alternative and grunge ruled and metal was forced back "underground" to a certain
extent--even Maiden was only playing 4000 seaters.CHrist--Helloween released Pink Bubbles Go Ape in this sad time!!!
But, beacuse it was so one dimension music and attitude wise, itbecame boring and benign. Metal had to pull its collective shit to together, and in true metal lyric--- came back and killed, conquered, raped, pillaged, burned down everything and became the Kings again!
In Europe, I guess it would totally differnent.
It was good to the genre--it got too big, and needed to be knocked about a bit. Kinda like General Motors--too big, too arrogant.
Fuck, I hated grunge. I started college in 1992, and it was everywhere--so depressing!!!! Everyone made fun of my music and hair( still rocking the permed mullet!!! )
