^^^ I like the way you think! I do this all the time - when I return from a trip, start thinking of the next one!

Just read a post on the Barge Forum Fiends fb page by a guy who said that the next Barge may be the first week of November, 2014 (knows this from reliable soutces :beerwink: ). If this is the case, I plan to be there! This is ideal for me for *many* reasons including good & reasonable gap (for me) between last cruise (70K, Jan 2012) and Barge (Nov 2014) - nearly three years; plenty of time to do other non-UMC/non-metal trips (high on my bucket list) in the meantime, being nearly two years* away makes it easy to schedule time & money-wise, the first week of November is a very good time for me (even better than January), and last, but not least - I still really want the chance to do an all "extreme metal" cruise, since that is the kind of music that I find the most interesting, intriguing, and exciting :P in many ways and think it would be perfect for the cruise experience. In other words, I'd do the next Barge before any 70K in a heartbeat, having done two 70K's.
    :beerhorns:

So, I'm with Kevin - bring it on and we'll support it in any way we can!
    :metalguy:

    * and if 2 years seems like a long way away - just think how the first 70K was nearly 2 years ago! The time has flown by!!!

And since it's never too early for "wishlists" :P - here's mine for starters (most of these have been on my list since before 70K 2011, with a few adds) Even just a few of these would please me greatly! In particular - the bands I haven't seen: Carach Angren, Dark Fortress, Hypocrisy, Taake & Wardruna.

    Carach Angren
Dark Fortress (thanks to Slaytanic Erik for turning me on to this band)
    Dark Funeral *
    Dimmu Borgir
    Goatwhore
    Helheim
    Hypocrisy
    Immortal
    Inquisition
    KVELERTAK
    Machine Head
    Marduk *
    Negura Bunget
    Nifelheim
    Satyricon
    Taake
    1349
    Triptykon
    Walls of Jericho
Wardruna featuring Gaahl (not metal but extreme in its own way)

    * 70K repeat but def worth a UMC encore via booking them for Barge

    Laura,

If you are liking Negura Bunget, you really should check out the REAL band that formed from it's demise, DORDEDUH (only the drummer remained and continued NB to this current day).

Dordeduh is what fans would consider the TRUE version of that band these days:

And since you love videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6jilw-6X_E

And in conclusion: DORDEDUH for BARGE 2014!!!!!

Been out most of the day (just got home from seeing The Hobbit - great!!), so I just looked at the fb post again and the guy (Matthew G) said that it was Andy himself who told him that, and then Mal2000 commented he told her the same thing. But, of course, we know that that certainly isn't a guarantee or anything. Well, whatever - if it is, great - it would be ideal from my perspective. :P If not, c'est la vie.

I'm not in the FB group so I don't know these people or how reliable their sources are. Some people do like to appear to be "in the know" though, it makes them feel important for whatever reason. However, if the source is accurate, it would be kind of ideal for me too, as I am not too sure if I will be able to make a cruise in December or January since i'm going to Europe around July/August for a few festivals, but I'll still try. Might wait for the Barge announcement first though whenever that may be.

I was having my doubts before sailing on the 1st Barge.
    Well, not anymore:
I'll be on the next one in a hearbeat! And, I did hear the same timeframe for the next round (Nov'014).
Should give plenty of time for the announcements doncha think?

Yeah, but that would mean longer waits between announcements, and you know how impatient people are around here. It would drive everyone insane! So have they decided to do Barge every two years instead of annually?

Oh yeah - this is great stuff!!! Not surprised I like it though since it is made up of some ex-NB members - in fact, if I didn't know these songs were by Dordeduh, I'd think they were other NB songs. I still think Negura Bunget would be a great addition because even though they are largely a "cover band" now except for one original member, the music is still so awesome... did a search and found what I wrote about them when Dklean was going on and on about original members and such....

Laura wrote:All this other talk about original band members prompted by the troll got me thinking about one of my very favorite shows from this year - Romania's Negura Bunget who I saw at a tiny club that holds about 100 people. I just started listening to them in January and they became an INSTANT new favorite of mine. When I saw they were coming to my town in the spring, I bought my ticket asap. Upon doing some reading up on them, I discovered that the only original member is the drummer (if I remember correctly). Well, when I saw them live that made absolutely no difference to me because all the new members (especially the singer) were able to recreate the songs so amazingly well. I talked to the singer briefly afterward to tell him how great they were and he told me he had just joined the band 6 months or so earlier. Anyway, as I said, none of that made any difference to me - I was just so thrilled to hear that magical music performed live.

So, I'll add Dordeduh to my wishlist, but will keep Negura Bunget on as well. Also, even though the sound of Ghost and The Devil's Blood is not "extreme" per se, I think they could qualify for an extreme metal cruise because of their schtick. :beerwink: Also, I totally forgot about Watain - meant to have them in my list as well.

The current size is perfect, if it did change to another boat I'd hope it didn't get any bigger. Or at least not much bigger.

I get having a fondness for a ship. But really, it's an old dog compared to most others these days.

A newer ship will just be that much better. (Not that I have a problem wrh this one)

Well I've only been on it once, so I probably don't have as much a fondness as most would have. I don't really have a fondness for the ship itself, but mostly the size of the event. I'd have not much of a problem if it were to be moved to a bigger boat, as long as it remains at about 2000 tickets. I like how small and intimate it currently is.

I'm in agreement with you. I like the size of the event as is. I could have just as much fun on a new ship. Maybe there will be better food options too!

Yeah, and some of the ships have mini-golf courses, that would be sweet!

Oh no way should the pool deck stage be comprimised!

However, it would mean that the crew assembling the stage are not going to get stuck on the ship because the stage wasn't set up in time.

Haha... I'd never heard that one. Did that happen? Makes sense but still, funny shit. I wonder if they got paid for the time they were at sea or what all the details ended up being on that.

Well I didn't think of that, but there were 2 pools, and only one of them got covered. I've seen pics of ships with water slides, and I can see the deck still having plenty of room for a pool deck stage and the slide not being in the way at all.

    Barge 2

I'd be happy if they give it another run again in 2013.
Even more happy than 70k as the 2014 dates fukk me right up!!

I heard that Barge will happen again but another date, away, from the 70k.
    Good idea!
    October? May?

    Image

Hope we see some Barge 2 action in 2013. Where would it go I wonder? Belize?
Barge to Belize! That would be Un-Belize-able!! haha

gnoff_the_creep wrote:yeah I asked Andy to get a ship with a waterslide, he said no can do.

Pretty much he had looked at over a dozen ships before settling for Majesty, since Majesty was the only one where he could make the pool stage happen and get rid of chairs in the theater.

The new ship he had his eye on was a bit bigger, all the rooms had balconies, but would make the cabins a bit more expensive.
That's about what I remember from that.

Oh and I say in regards to talks with Andy is how I remember them, I didn't record it or anything, I can have understood or remembered it incorrectly.

(or I could just be trolling, hahahahaa)

It was 14 ships he looked at I think. Didn't know the balcony and cost info. Damn, that would suck if it made things more expensive.

As for Barge being possibly in early November or around that time, anyone know how late into the year hurricane season lasts in the Caribbean?

Typically June 1 through November 30, though the time frame can be longer/shorter.
