Hrmmm.. just off the top of my head here's some to check out.

Amon amarth - Fate of Norns (few years old, solid mid-tempo crushing tunes)
Epica - The divine conspiracy (Finally hit their stride)
Exodus - Bonded by blood (worst album cover.. ever)
Finntroll - Nattfodd (catchy, melodic, folky)
Saxon - Strong arm of the law (classic)
Sonata Arctica - Reckoning night (Bit heavier than older material, still power-metal)
Stratovarius - Destiny (cheesy as all hell)
Testament - The legacy (Very strong debut)
    2011: Cabin #5549
    2012: Cabin #2581
    2013: Cabin #2077
    2014: Cabin #2583
    2015: Cabin #3242

    Please check out my band

I'll name the one that would be the best introduction but really can't find an album by any of these guys that I don't enjoy. Raven's the only one with a couple duds in their catalogue but I'd rather listen to their duds than the best many other bands have to offer

    Trouble - Psalm 9
    Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Raven - One For All or Walk Through Fire
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

I have 4 for Sodom since they have a large collection spanning over 25 years

    1. Persecution mania, I think their best, one of the best thrash albums of that era.
    2. Agent orange, a bit more polished and melodic, the above has the aura
    3. Code Red, more modern but is 11 years old now
    4. Self titled 2006 release

While those are all good suggestions Scott (maybe not Chaos AD so much), I think he was just asking about the bands playing the cruise (thus far).

Hell, I'll give this a shot, in alphabetical order:

Amon Amarth - Versus The World (not that I don't enjoy all their albums, but this one really got a lot of replay for me)
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence (Frolic Through The Park is also quite enjoyable)
Epica - Design Your Universe (Their newest album, which I feel is their most focused album yet)
Exodus - this one calls for 3 answers - Bonded By Blood (Baloff era), Tempo Of The Damned (Zetro era) and Exhibit B: The Human Condition (Dukes era)
Fintroll - Nattfodd (when Eliytres comes on, how can you not want to dance the jig of death? )
Forbidden - The first 2 albums are classic, but I veer more toward Twisted Into Form (I also like Distortion, but Green is just awful)
Moonspell - Night Eternal (they got a bit too gothy for me after their first album, but that last one was a step back in the right direction)
Obituary - Slowly We Rot or Cause Of Death, take your pick (Volley ball! Join me! Slowly We Rot!)
Raven - I never cared for this band, so no pick here
Saxon - Also a band I never particularly got into, so go with other peoples pick on this
Sodom - Agent Orange (from the classic era) and Code Red (from the more recent albums)
Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica (everything after the 2nd album was, for me, pretty downhill from there)
Stratovarius - Visions (Infinte is a close 2nd, with Destiny being 3rd. I don't enjoy their first 3 because of Tolkki's vocals and the Elements albums were spotty at best. Oh, and the self titled album is just terrible)
Swashbuckle - They only have 2 albums, so pick one as it's about the same
Testament - One of my favorite bands, period. I can honestly only recommend one album NOT to try out: The Ritual. Anything else and you're pretty good to go.
Trouble - Psalm 9 is a classic, but you could really just pick any of their first 4 albums and you'd be good (I really do not care for present vocalist Cory Clarke as he sounds like the singer of Tesla with a head cold)
Uli Jon Roth - Aside from anything he did with the Scorpions, I haven't followed his career. After listening to some of his later work, I can see why. A little too out there for me. Perhaps if I eat a bag of mushrooms...
Witchburner - Final Detonation would be my pick, but honestly, you can't really go wrong with any of their albums (They all have that classic German Thrash sound not unlike early Kreator or Sodom)

    How's that so far? :headbanger:
    Vader-Dream Evil-Accept-Thrash Or Die-Evile-Brainstorm-Kalmah-Paradox-The Crown-Morgana Lefay-Gama Bomb-Hail Of Bullets-Powermad-Firewind-Hypocrisy-Iron Savior-Communic.....FOR 2015!

    NUCLEAR WINTER!!!!!!!!!

And Saxon and Raven RULE one of the reasons I am booked. Wheels of Steel and Strong arm of the law are must owns as are Rock Til You Drop and Walk Through Fire from Raven.

All of Witchburner kills and one of my faves is Blasphemic Assault as well as the Final Detonation album. They have a new albue coming out soon.

I cannot stand folk metal and happy metal.

The best album: Spirit the Earth Aflame by Primordial
This album is the definition of folk metal. No pagpipes or fiddles or that shit, just plain and simple metal with a hint of folk in it. All the songs sound Irish, filled with grief and hatred towards their oppressors. A must have.
If you're not familiar with their music yet, I'd start with the latest album To the Nameless Dead, because it is a lot easier to get into.

Marduk - Those of the Unlight. Anything they did after this is pretty standard black metal for the untrained ear, but TOTU has alot of melody and variation. I'm not that much of a black metal fan and I love this album.

Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine - their first major studio album, heaviest and least industrial album. Their original first album was unreleased until Roadruner put it out years later under the name of Concrete, features lots of the songs from Soul in different fashion.
    WISHLIST

BOLT THROWER / MADDER MORTEM / SEAR BLISS / AEON / THE AMENTA / AUTOPSY / MDB / THE 11th HOUR / HAIL OF BULLETS / DORDEDUH / TRIPTYKON / NE OBLIVISCARIS / PORTAL

    The Sultan of Stroopwafels
    The Viceroy of Vegemite
    Loather of Power Metal

    Cannibal Corpse – The Bleeding.
It was them at the top of their game as far as catchy brutal death metal. Excellent Riffs, Catchy Vocal Patterns, Great Lyrics :P (I don’t want to hurt you, I just want to kill you!) After this they went heavier on technical which is good, just lost some of the catchiness and I did like Barnes.
    Samael – Ceremony of Opposites
I feel this is an excellent overlooked black metal album. The production, song writing and lyrics are all great. I assume it was over looked as I think it was out in 94 and all the kvlt shit was in full swing with “low-fi only = true.”
    Megadeth – Rust in Peace
No need to really explain but awesome playing, songs, and aggression.
    Carcass – Heartwork
Another classic to me. A guitar player’s wet dream and great production. I still love Necroticism but would say this is their swansong.
    Danzig I – IV
Excellent production, song writing and the voice. Chuck, Eriee and Christ backing up the man.
    Paradise Lost - Draconian Times
Thought this was nothing at first but a weak metallica band. Came back to it later and it was so much more. Dark melodies and well crafted songs.
Type O Negative - World Coming Down
They have a sound of their own and on this one I feel Peter hit his darkest chords.

There are more, but will avoid rambling on.

Ok this is very hard to answer because both bands (esp Rage) have a extensive back catalog and it's all fucking fantastic.

I would for sure get the last Rage album- "Strings to a Web",

"Carved in Stone" and "Speak of the Dead" are both later day Rage that are must owns/hears!

Also "Unity" is excellent esp the songs Dies Irae and Set this world on fire

I absolutely LOVE 1999's "Ghost" album too!

Old Rage is MUST own as well. "Trapped!" and "Reflections of a Shadow" rule, "Execution Guaranteed" and "Perfect Man" are also godly. I even recommend the Pre Rage band "Avenger" material from the mid 80s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Unleashed-

    Victory!! i would start there.

Hammer Battallion, Sworn Allegiance and Hells Unleashed are awesome as hell

Their first album from '91 is a bloody classic. "Where No Life Dwells"
    70K- 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2024 - Cabin 2350. Barge to hell -2012

My personal favorites by them are Eric the Red and Ragnarok. 2 extremely great albums. The rest are pretty good also, but they dont hold a candle to those 2. IMO of course.

Also, here is a great site for looking up bands and stuff. There is a myspace player a little ways down so you can check out some of their songs. Highly recommend that you check out the song Regin Smidur.

Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine - their first major studio album, heaviest and least industrial album. Their original first album was unreleased until Roadruner put it out years later under the name of Concrete, features lots of the songs from Soul in different fashion.

As the FF Fan resident..... can't agree with this!!! Soul of a New Machine is good, but there are tons of samples and still industrialness throughout the album. It is not the heaviest by any means that Fear Factory has put out.... unless you mean something else by 'heavy'. It is the FF album with the most low death-metal vocals on it, but guitar tone, guitar riffs and overall sonically it is the 2nd least heavy FF album (only Transgression is lighter).

In the metal world, the main known classic FF albums are Demanufacture and Obsolete. SOANM is only the best for people who started to like FF on that album and then their sound changed (got better) with Demanufacture. Archetype and Mechanize are extremely heavy as well.

If you want to get into FF for the cruise, They will only play one song (maybe more since they have 2 sets) from SOANM. They will play a minimum 4 or 5 songs of of Demanufacture (Tracks 1-4 at least). They will also play at least 3 (possibly up to 5 or 6) songs from Obsolete. I would familiarize yourself with these if you want to get into FF and their show.

For Moonspell, I agree with the above posts..... Night Eternal is AWESOME and probably their most brutal album. Actually, I'm listening to this album right now!!!
