The Worst concert you've ever had the misfortune to witness

by Captain Metal » Sat Mar 13, 2010 1:38 pm

Inspired by my tale of woe involving Manowar a few years ago (as chronicled in the BEST concerts thread), I was curious who else might want to share their most craptacular concert experiences with the rest of us.

Where, what part and i'll get a lot of other reviews about it.
As for terrible gigs in terms of PERFORMANCE and MUSICAL ABILITIES
Dragonforce at Sweden rock 06 - They don't actually know how to play their own songs
Children of Bodom at Earthshaker 05 - Alexi cared moire about trying to break a crowd surfing record than playing their songs
Queensryche at Metalway 09 - Love this band but they were unbelievably boring.Didn't play a single song off Operation Mindcrime
Warcry at Metalway 09 - heard they are a relly good band but really dissapoitning live after hearing their recorded stuf.No energy at all live
Holy Hell at numerous festivals - high suspecions by myself and many others that Maria mimes
Metalforce at Manowar gigs - Band was originally called Majesty and were a great metal band.in 08 they changed their name to Metalforce as was apparently advised by their producer (aka Joey De maio)
Drummer and guitarist quit the band because of the stupid name.
They replace the members and now play nearly the whole Metalforce album and maybe 1-2 songs from Majesty the oriiginal band which had Ross the Boss as a special guest appearance on one of their albums.
Live these days the singer Tarek tries to imitate Eric Adams and fails miserbaly

Metalforce sounds like a bad movie. I can imagine the trailer..."In a world over run by Posers, there will rise a force to oppose them. A METAL Force! So prepare, for this Summer, the streets shall run red with blood, in the name of the Metal Gods!" :metalguy: :headbanger: :shred:

    Or something like that

    HAHAHAHAHA!!! :D

On one of Grave Digger shows, they put Avalanch for opening act. No problem at all, despite Harppia (Heavy Metal sang in Portuguese) and DragonHeart (Power Metal, mix of Blind Guardian and Grave Digger) played before Avalanch.

They were on Mother Earth tour, and they tried to play 3 songs if I'm not mistaken. Being in fire with the previous acts, the crowd took a cold water bath with their more calm and internal metal and trowed every single piece of anything they found on floor.

I like their songs, but they were opening for a distant style band and a metal legend. Poor them!

Blink 182. I was looking for the band afterwards to beat them up.

During their horrible performance they were encouraging 14 year old girls to take off their tops and 'show them their tits"

    :|

I was covering the Endfest in the Seattle area, its a alternative rock fest they have every year. This was like 14 years ago..

Those guys should be severely beaten just on principle alone. And some people try to tout Travis Barker as some kind of drum god? Really? Are they fuckin' kidding me with that shit? I wipe my ass with Blink 182 for damn sure

Waited for a few years for Life Of Agony to come through town here and they never did and then broke up. Some 10 or 12 years later, they reunite, record a new album and get a slot on Gigantour (closest thing to a metal festival we get here in western Canada). I was so stoked and couldn't wait to see them.

Sound quality, awful. Performances, mostly respectable and inspired but the singer Keith was wearing some kind of silk scarf and his voice was in poor shape. I felt for the guy but he was really struggling. Worst moment, some 14 or so year old kid standing next to me and looking up at the band shaking his head and pointing both his thumbs down in disgust. I wanted to beat him senseless but , sadly, his assessment was much closer to the truth than my expectations ever would be.

Sincerely hoping they get on board for a redemptive performance :shred:
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

    Pantera- Dynamo 98

Phil was wasted. Singing off key, forgetting lyrics and being a ass to the crowd, they were actually getting BOOED by the dutch

Which reminds me of the fact that I saw Superjoint Ritual several years ago, and Phil was wasted yet again. He started proclaiming he was "The King of Heavy Metal" in an almost slurred manner. In that moment of quiet right after I yelled out "More like the king of heroin!"

A few people looked at me like they couldn't believe I had said that. I just smiled

I stayed for the first song for the same reason.I was a big fan of their older stuff.
My friend had a huge set of speakers in his car so we went back to it and drank and blasted Manowar while we were waiting for our friends who stayed for the show. :P

Testament at the Sun & Steel Fest, Pinellas Park, FL, March 2004. I am sure Captain Metal would agree!

Testament rules, don't get me wrong, but the whole event was a disorganized mess and the schedule was all screwed up, so by the time Testament got on stage they only had a few minutes to play. When they finally did get on, the sound was an abortion. Eventually, Chuck Billy realized it was a lost cause and invited everybody up on the stage and chaos ensued.

I hadn't seen them in awhile and I was super psyched as were a few others who went with us who had never seen them before. Very disappointing, though no fault of the band at all.

It was a great weekend of drinking though. Can't say I did not have a blast!
Have a good time...all the time.

Oh yeah, Sun and Steel was a good time, but yes indeed, Testament's set was a complete cluster fuck (due to the sound man and the organizers). How I managed to overlook that one I couldn't say

Not long ago, Stam1na's concert, @Hki. The band was absolutely grea, they are amazing live, but the crowd was absolutely weird. There were a few completely nonsense guys with some non-reasonable behaviours and all.
Besides, the moshpits were REALLY weird. They lasted like... 2 seconds? And then people were back only singing...

At least the band was great

    There's a few.

I saw EDGUY open for Kamelot. EDGUY killed it as usual. I have to say that I discovered at that show though that I am just NOT a Kamelot fan. NOT. About five songs in my friend and I realized that WE were the assholes. Meaning we were the two people there that just weren't into it and were standing there like dicks. So we left.

The worst two shows I've seen though were both the same band. High on Fire. I just don't like them and they book epically bad opening bands. Yeah I went back a second time but i thought I had a legit reason.

This will not come as a surprise I am sure. WORST: Ozzy back in '92?? No More Tears tour I suppose. The ONLY show I have ever walked out on, f'ing guy could only squelch out every 3rd or 4th word, couldn't talk let alone sing, falling down drunk, just horrible horrible horrible, and to make matters worse I was a broke-ass student back then and could hardly afford the ticket. The guy should have hung it up after Ultimate Sin (maybe even before that). I remember that tour, Metallica had just released Master and were his opener, we all know how THAT went.

    I also saw Don (I love me) Dokken throw temper tantrums pretty much every time I saw him back int the 80's. He is still a primadonna these days, but at least he's still putting some effort in I suppose. Oh, and making great commercials;

One last thing: Fuck you Sharon Osbourne you skanky, hideous, evil waste of a human.
Disaster Area: a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the history of the Galaxy, but the loudest noise of any kind at all.

Haha, I saw that same Ozzy tour, but I must've gotten him on a more coherent night. The worst part of that show however was the fact that the opener was Faster Pussycat, who were fuckin' awful as expected

I have seen Ozzy a number of other times since then and have witnessed some shitty performances. If ever someone needed to stop playing live shows, it's him.

Been a few years since I've seen Dokken (Erase The Slate tour to be exact), so then how's his wig holding up these days? And didn't he dedicate an album to it called Hell Toupee?

Lastly, I definitely share your sentiments about Sharon. She truly is a piece of shit lowlife, for reasons too numerous to mention. I think Ozzy said it best that time he tried to strangle her to death while saying "WE'VE decided, you've got to go!"

I need to add Devildriver to this list. They must have some studio magic because they are just about the worst sounding live band I've ever seen. Also one of the first metal shows at The Regency in San Francisco so there were additional sound problems other than the musicians general suckiness.

Oooh just thought of another one: Slayer @ Tuska '08.

After almost 4 days of hearing some really talented more underground bands on a great sound system.. hearing slayer go up with their wall of amps and their own sound guy was brutal. The sound was so bad that I left after four songs... ample time was there to improve the sound. They only had one kick mic'd correctly, the guitars sounded like mud, and the vocals were totally lost in the mix.

I'm going to keep thinking of these...

The Deftones opening for Sliknot was EPICALLY BAD. BAD BAD.
Now don't ask me what I was doing there.

I went to see Vince Neil (solo) in Tampa a few years back. He was so drunk he could barely sing, and he fell off the stage during the 2nd song. We left after the 3rd.... :trashdrink:
