First few albums you ever owned.

    by ShoreSlayer » Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:35 am

Taking this idea from a different thread but...

Had Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic purchased for me by my older sister.

Spent my first rock dollars on Kiss' Hotter Than Hell and Rock n' Roll Over
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

Nice! I sorta missed out on the Iommi Sabbath until much later but Sold Our Souls was my first Iommi vinyl.

The Kiss obsession lasted about 4 years but during that time I also got into Zepellin IV, some not so heavy Canadian stuff like Trooper and Rubicon (became Night Ranger I think) then it was Rush, Floyd, B.O.C. Heart, then Ozzy, Crue, Sabbath (Born Again oh my!) and somehow I never stumbled upon Priest or Maiden until Defenders and Number of the Beast.

MTV and MuchMusic (Canadian MTV) came along and things really started opening up and crapping out at the same time. Lots of lame stuff but it really got more people talking more about music too.

Bryan's just lucky Nickeljoke came along to usurp his title as the shame of Vancouver haha... He had pretty huge status here for years until that ballad he did for some romance movie and then his rocker cred just plummeted. His early stuff is definitely part of the sountrack of my youth growing up on the west coast.

Oh man, I almost forgot about all those old K-Tel compilation records. Nevermind Smash Hits of the 70's and stuff like that but did anyone ever have Goofy Greats? All those songs like The Streak and Flying Purple People Eater? Wow... I think you just reopened a part of my mind that had been locked in time.

Culture Club, Def Leppard (On Through the Night), Michael Jackson (Thriller), Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic and Permanent Vacation simultaneously)... that is what I remember. Oh, I think NKOTB were thrown in there at the beginning too.

Hey, I can't deny who I am by ignoring who I was. I think I was 11 during NKOTB and we only had three channels in the "holler" via a big ol' antenna on the roof : channels 3, 8 and 13. So it wasn't until 14 years of age that I started getting other albums, and I had to start my journey for metal (and hard rock) love from NKOTB to what it is now. If admitting this is gonna knock me out of any cool kids' groups on the boat, then I wasn't met to be there anyway! I'm just plain ol' me. :P

You like what you like what you like, it doesn't matter. I don't think most people consider this a pissing contest anyways. I have no tolerance for inner circles or groups that feel they are better than anyone else, so you won't see me part of them :D

    Either / Or...

I'm sure there's some who've never owned anything on vinyl or maybe even 8-track or cassette either. I put 'Album' in the thread title since I think that covers them all as well as cds.

I too had a bunch of 45's when I was a kid. I had Kiss-A world without heros from the Elder that I sold on ebay a few years ago for $75. Who knew it would ever be worth that much.

 oh yeah 8 tracks. As a kid I always hated that they had the fade the music out before the next track (finish the damn song!!!!!!). Then when you wanted to go to the next track sometimes it would be in the middle of a song, it pissed me off. Was rockin' my Kiss - Dynasty most of the time. My friend had Destroyer. God of Thunder was actually scary to us. We were only 9/10 yrs old so I think I get a pass on that one

Although my family had a Cutlass Supreme with an 8 track deck I was too little to ever have my hands on it. (Kids = backseat ALWAYS).
So I started out on cassette tapes of course. To this day when I hear a an album on cd that I used to have on tape, I hear the "doo-dee-dee-DEE" tones that tell you to turn it over after the particular song. Hahahaha... nostalgia comes rushing in.

Well since I started out with Black Sabbath- S/T at age 9/10, Kiss were bubblegum to me....

I was captivated by the lyrical content and got deeply into gore/horror moves in the 70s because of Sabbath. It did not scare me at all, it interested me and made me who I am today.

    Black Sabbath- "Black Sabbath" snippet

Big black shape with eyes of fire
    Telling people their desire
    Satan's sitting there, he's smiling
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh no, no, please God help me!

My Uncle Austin from Scotland (GREATEST UNCLE EVER) sent me Saxon Wheels of Steel and AC/DC Let there be Rock on Vinyl, guess I was around 11 maybe 12. Later came Piece of Mind and countless mix tapes of Thin Lizzy, Tygers of Pantang etc. etc. etc. Thank you Austin, a million times thank you man!

Wish I still had the Let there be Rock Vinyl. There was a GREAT song on there that was replaced on the US release. It was called Crabsody in Blue (you can guess what it's about) It had some typically hillarious Bon Scott (RIP) lyrics. I remeber being like 12 and making my old man listen to Crabsody and I Like Big Tits by Joe Walsh, he didn't appreciate the art as much as I did... :D

WOOHOO, just found Crabsody in Blue download!!!

    and the Lyrics:

Well they move on down an they crawl around
Walkin sideways, sideway walkin give me the blues
And you start to scratch, when they start to hatch
Walkin sideways, sideway walkin give me the blues
Oh but when they start to bite then it's time you saw the light for an appointment, I know
Before you start to scream that's when you apply the cream blues ointment, come again
Well the doctor said "We got to make'em dead"
walkin sideways, sideway walkin give me the blues
An when you start to scream that's when you apply the cream blues ointment, yeah
And when they start to itch you go out and you take the bitch
    for an appointment
Well you rub it on and you rub it in
Stops them walkin sideway walkin gives them the blues
Sideway walkin sideway walkin they got the blues, give them the blues they got the blues, give them the blues
