I know I've mentioned it before, but I enjoyed Swedish Death Metal by Daniel Ekeroth. Though it may have a different focus that the above book, which looks like it's crossed with Lords of Chaos.

Well I'm open to certain things, though I won't post 'em. While I work where I work I will avoid all of it though, since you can be drug tested if you have any kind of accident. Though really, drugs aren't particularly appealing to me.

Seneca acted for eight years as Nero's unofficial chief minister until Nero too turned against him and he retired from public life to devote himself to philosophy and writing. In AD65, following the discovery of a plot against the emperor, he and many others were compelled by Nero to commit suicide.

Completely gave up on reading that Schrodinger's Cat book. I made it about 3/4 of the way through and it was just so poorly written that I couldn't enjoy a subject that normally captivates me.

On to: The Travels of a T-Shirt in a Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli.
I'm actually enjoying it, despite the incredibly boring title :lol:

Since I had Kraftwerk on the brain in the past 24 hours (after mentioning them on the What are you listening to thread?), I decided to seek out some articles and books about them today – just started reading this cover story article from 11/09 in a music mag we get at work called Mojo – great because apparently the Kraftwerk guys have rarely given interviews. Btw, I assumed that the founders of the group, Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter were around 60 years old, but come to find out, they are 64 & 65 now!

Also discovered we (library where I work) own a few books devoted to them including this recent academic collection of essays which I promptly checked out! I’ve got a three day weekend ahead (yay!), so hope to get through most of it. Really looking forward to it.

I've just finished reading this and it was really awesome (and yes, disturbing at times). I hope they will release an English version, I'm sure many people would enjoy it. The best book about music that I've ever read :)

Ripping my way through the Song of Ice and Fire series. When I started Game of Thrones I posted on Facebook that this is the first fantasy series I have ever read, previously my fiction has all all been techno-war-spy-thriller stuff. Ice and Fire is chock full of intrigue and politics so it is right up my alley, I am absolutely enthralled it. I tore through the first three in about a month and am knee deep in A Feast of Crows now. All I can say is wow, fucking WOW!

Now I'm really looking forward to buying the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones in March, from the clips I have seen on youtube it looks as if they did a fantastic job with it.

Glad you are enjoying it Craig - my wife is a massive fan of the books (my stepdaughter is named after one of the main characters).

So that gives you an idea of how much she loves the books - and she LOVED series one of the HBO series, so you should enjoy it too.

Me? Never read the books, but a massive fan of fantasy (literature and film....and metal haha!!) and I loved the TV series too.

Really should read the books, but I've got a bit of a backlog of reading (currently reading The Hunters Blades trilogy by RA Salvatore)

The book itself was worth reading for perhaps 50 pages of it, the rest was a lot of useless shit

Yeah I've been reading it on and off for the past month on my Kindle (apparently I'm 83% done, I just want to finish the damn thing already as I'm pretty bored at this point). Some of it I really enjoyed although most that was at the beginning when talking about Mayhem and how the scene began and slowly developed. The chapter about UFOs was ridiculous. Some of it was hard to keep captivated, other parts were really interesting. The political stuff was okay, the way they describe it though is if you're into black metal you're either a communist or a fascist (most likely a fascist) and very rarely anything in between.

Since I've finished "Dance With Dragons", I've started a book called "Lost Japan". It is a British man's account of how influence from the west caused Japan to completely lose interest in its traditional values and aesthetic style. It was interesting how because Japan got most of its modern features from other countries, the people of Japan feel no connection between modern Japan and traditional Japan and many of them just want to sweep old japan with the samurai, geisha, and tea ceremony, under the rug and forget about it.

The Silmarillion is quite a project. The version I had came with an appendix full of maps, family tress, timelines and other infos that helped me a lot in following along, since I also have trouble focusing.

i normally do NOT have trouble focusing, but Silmarillion tested my patience for sure. it's certainly more a project than a book. i could not finish when i attempted it a few years ago.

gotta spend all my time now studying Swedish, as my trip is approaching and i don't want to be a total dumbass over there.

But yes, it's almost more of an encyclopedia used to get info about the world or a history book, than it is a book you read cover to cover
