Yeah, Covenant's got a pretty complex back story and finds himself in some pretty trippy situations so his decisions often inspire reactions kinda like when ya watch a horror movie and wanna yell at the characters... "Don't go in there!!", or "Just turn on the damn lights!!!"

START! If you want when your done, I have the tv movie series (takes between 8-10 hours to get through) of the Stand that they made in the 80s on DVD that I could lend you. I also have the comic books of the Stand that are out so far. (yes I know. Nerd.)

Let me know what you think of it, one of my favorite Stephen King books.

Ok will do! I may hit you up for that schtuff once I'm finished.

I know that the stand had a very large part to play in Dark Tower 4: Wizard and Glass... so I actually already know a lot about the story. I think Once I get a few more songs finished I'll tear into The Stand!

For some reason, when I read your previous post, I assumed you'd already read it and were just considering a re-read. Yes, definitely get on it as soon as schedule permits. You'll love it. Movie's well done as well and Marlo, I wanna see those comics. Might have to research that once I have some extra funds laying around.

My mother just recommended me a diet book called The Paleo Solution. I don't take to diets easily, but the book is humorous and it says vegetarianism sucks, so at least I'll be entertained.

I just got a new manga at the bookstore, called Ooku. It takes place in an alternate history Japan where a disease has wiped out 80% of the male population. Jobs that were once restricted to men are now run by women, including the shogunate. Who would have guessed that a manga with a plot like that would end up being a guy-guy love manga? :?

Drop what you're doing & read it now! It wasn't funny like The Dirt. It was heart wrenching. A very quick, easy read, but it definitely conveys all the paranoia, hollowness, illness, & literal highs & lows Nikki experienced during that year. I loved it.

I have read it and enjoyed the book very much. Nicki really paints Vanity in a different/truer light then some other people around Mpls.

I can get some pages done every day to and from work though :)

If nonfiction is allowed, I was really into "The Japanese Mind". I can't believe metal exists in Japan, where not being an individual is as celebrated as individuality is in the states.
I also really got into the biography of Musashi Miyamoto. Really interesting guy. For those of you who haven't heard of him, he's the guy who wields two swords in Samurai Warriors, Ninja Masters, Sengoku Basara, Ganryu, and just about every other film and video game that decided to cash in on history's greatest Japanese swordsman.

As far as fiction goes, I liked many books by James Clavelle, such as "Shogun" and "King Rat". If you've seen the thread, it should also go without saying that I'm a big fan of the Song of Fire and Ice saga. Generally, I like escapism. I don't mind if it takes place in the real world, but it has to be the real world at least 400 years ago. I seem to have been going through a Japanese phase, looking back on my recent reading.

Oh, and how could I forget. Mooyagi and I both read Romance of the Three Kingdoms two years ago. If you haven't heard of it, it is essentially the story that Dynasty Warriors is based off of. If you don't play crappy hack n' slashes by Koei, it could also be considered the Chinese version of the Illiad. If you have played Dynasty Warriors, you should definitely check it out.

Favorite authors: Hermann Hesse and Carl Sagan
Favorite books:
Genghis trilogy - Conn Iggulden (I highly recommend this!)
The World is Flat - Thomas Friedman
Dark Matter, Missing Planets, and New Comets - Tom Van Flandern (super difficult read, but also extremely interesting once you understand it)
Dragons of Eden - Carl Sagan
Musicophilia - Oliver Sacks (I highly recommend this! Documents the effects of music on the brain)
Demian, Narcissus and Goldmund - Hermann Hesse
The Tunguska Mystery - Vladimir Rubtsov

I've been on this whole physics/astronomy kick for the past few years. I'll read 4 or 5 science books in a row and then force myself to read a fantasy/sci-fi or historical fiction book just to save my overworked brain

EDIT: Currently reading: Cosmos - Carl Sagan. Not as good as I expected, so far :?
EDIT#2: I seem to f*** up the Tom Van Flandern title every single time I talk about it. It's correct now.

If you haven't heard of it, it is essentially the story that Dynasty Warriors is based off of. If you don't play crappy hack n' slashes by Koei, it could also be considered the Chinese version of the Illiad. If you have played Dynasty Warriors, you should definitely check it out.

Definitely a great read but for those of you interested, be sure to pick up the full unabridged version. There are a lot of translations out there as well and for some reason I can't recall which version I had (not at home right now but I'll check later) but it split the novel into four books due to the size of it. Clocked in at over 2000 pages if I remember correctly. I needed to special order it at the bookstore since they didn't carry the version I wanted though I'm sure Amazon and similar sites has it too.

Aside from the Dynasty Warriors (crappy yet oh so fun) game series the stories are also covered in (duh) Romance of the Three Kingdoms and I think one of the Kessen games. The movies Red Cliff (excellent!) and Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon) cover bits of the novel as well.
