Oh man, I thought Lundqvist was never going to allow one to go in. So many damn chances in overtime. Glad Marchy finally buried one. I'm guessing this won't be the only game in the series to go to OT.

What I've learned so far from world champs:
    - Steven Stamkos is a Canadian !!!!!
    - Smith, even though he plays for Pups, is a very good goalie
    - Switzerland finally made the last step in extending the BIG7 to BIG8
    - Russia, the reigning world champs, lost in QF for the first time since 2006 (well deserved though, for what is worth, they could all have had different shirts on, no teamplay whatsoever)
    - my team still crumbles mentally when they are touted slight favourites or being equal with their opponents and still thrive under the tag of underdog (awesome game against Czech, very unlucky to not score against Sweden, losing only 0-2 and finally led against Canada 2:0 and 3:2 and losing in OT at the end)
    - I hate Bruins even more, it seems their sole purpose is to ruin my HTs

Any thoughts on the Torres suspension? Seems to me he no longer has any post-season value.

I think that's more of a reputation suspension than anything else. Watching him all season, he had cleaned up his game a lot and was even too tentative at times. Once he went to San Jose, the reigns seemed to loosen a little bit. Part of cleaning up his game, though, is to avoid being reckless.

If he can ever stay on the ice, he has some postseason value and even scored an OT winner in the first round but seems that any team he's on has to prepare to lose him for a length of time.

That is a really lame rule. I wish it would be treated just like icing.

Edit: I wonder if there's a way to rewrite the rule to judge for intent (I know that opens up the whole trusting the NHL refs can of worms). Keeping it in place for a situation where a player just flips the puck up to the side or behind him could still be enforced. Maybe write the rule such that the offending player must have a receiver in the vicinity to avoid the penalty? That would be similar to the intentional grounding rule in football.

    SNIP

If he can ever stay on the ice, ...

Exactly my point. I don't see anyone making a trade deadline deal for him again, and I'm sure it's a consideration for all potential playoff teams looking to sign him in the future.

EDIT: Come to think of it, the current "repeat offender" rule (as defined in the CBA) is sure to be hotly contested by the player's union in the next CBA. It seems a bit too heavy-handed, and I imagine we're going to start seeing the fallout from it soon, meaning destroyed careers of players that no one will take a chance on because of the risk of triggering the "repeat offender" clause and getting a weighty suspension. Why sign a guy, if there's a potential that he'll be out a significant portion of the season/playoffs by playing their style?

I understand the culture that they are trying to instill with these heavy suspensions, but I don't think they've thought it through. Then again, that could just be me over-analyzing things, and it will happen, but just to a much lesser (neglible?) degree.

If that hit was not Torres, maybe one game. But since it is Torres, multi-game - but for a good reason. If you look at the videos of his other suspensions and head shots that should have been suspensions (like on Seabrook a couple years ago), they are all almost the same. He looks for someone overextended/not looking who is not still in the play and he puts a shoulder on their head. over and over and over again. When that is the hit you are always looking for you are a cheap bastard with no balls. I thought he should have gotten more than just one series. In this case the repeat offender rule worked as it should.

Oops! Somehow missed Ottawa's first goal when I looked at the box score. He didn't get the natural hat trick.

He was the reason we made it to the WCF last year. This year he wasn't so good, though. I suspect he was injured most of the season. Sadly, he will probably leave us come July, just like everyone else except for Doan does  .

See Bryzgalov. He was great with us. Asked for too much money, went to Philly. Now he sucks. Hopefully Smitty paid attention to that

I know. Poor Bryz. I think Philly has gotten to him. Had he stayed here with our wonderful goalie coach and stood defensive system he'd probably still have great numbers. And the media wouldn't pick on him nearly as much. It's gotta be hard to keep your head in the game when you're being hounded all the time.

Ok, Canada has to stop letting the Swiss in our Junior leagues and letting them have Canadian coaches etc. Congrats to Sweden---hey the Sedins actually showed up to play! :D

The hockey was pretty average and not great crowds... and of course, most of the US and Canadian talent wasn';t there.

Big win today! Scoring 5 on Lundqvist is always nice. Rangers were lost defensively. Torey Krug has been fantastic filling in for the injured guys. Let him keep playing!

Congrats. I actually watched the second period and I was pulling for Boston.
I always has appreciation for the Bruins and a lot of that was due to this guy.

Bigger ice surface, weaker defensive competition/talent and strictly enforced rules add up to a Sedin win every time. Sadly for Canuck fans, they'll never face that in the race for the cup

Hey Baby B's in Providence! Get your shit together. :bitch: Blew a 3-0 series lead so now it goes to Game 7. Granted, half their defense is with Boston right now.

That's enough out of you. They're playing a Pennsylvania team too.

Round 2 has been good for you so far. I couldn't force myself to pick the Wings, hence yet another 2fer.

I didn't think they would make it easy for Chicago. Even though Chicago is a better team, Detroit is built for playoffs. Too much experience on that team for them to go out without a fight. I do think Chicago will come back and win the next game though. This round has been really good for me so far  I'm glad I got cell service at my campsite over the weekend and had just enough juice to make all my picks.
