I wonder how front loaded that one is. Would be surprised if Nashville can or wants to match. Would really suck for them to lose him and Suter but from what I'm reading they'd get four early round draft picks as compensation for Weber.
Not only the long contract, but it looks like they are trying to structure it so that Weber makes $26M the first year (max signing bonus day he signs and another a year later).
As a fan, I like the idea of long-term contracts, if I like the player; however, as a business person, and watching the full career of some amazing players, and some amazing players that have had their careers cut short for whatever reason, and on-and-on, I don't like the idea of being tied to player far beyond the normal superstar career spans. If I ran things, I would tend to do things in 4-year or less contracts. MAYBE in extreme circumstances, I might go 5- or 6-year for someone like the Stars did for Modano, which allowed them the flexibility to let him go to detroit when he wasn't the elite player he used to be.
It's just ridiculous! What a way to stick it to Nashville. $26M a year? That's just insane! I feel bad for the Preds possibly losing two of their really good guys in such bullshit ways.

Hell, Tedy Bruschi came back from a stroke. Maybe it's just the New England handegg players that are tough.

...and there was much rejoicing.
