Dude, you've got a ONE point lead on TWO teams who both have TWO games in hand on ya.

That's one hell of a log jam you're caught up in there.

I wouldn't go getting over-confident with 6 weeks to go man but that's just me. I'm the one that looked completely past Chicago in last year's playoffs

True, but we have also been playing better than them. Our last ten games is a little better but at the rate we've been playing lately I'm confident we'll come out on top of that big dogpile of teams. We shall see.

Good! Wouldn't want you staining a perfectly good baseball thread with your Yankee love anyway.

Fuck no  There is no way, whatsoever, that the Canadiens are allowed to win anything. Ever. Plus, I want the Bruins to have a shot at Pittsburgh so somebody can rip off Matt Cooke's head. He ruined Marc Savard's career.

Hopefully we do well tonight, fuck I do NOT want to play Detroit in first round at alllllllllll.

The bashing with Rob for a Vancouver match up first round would get pretty entertaining as much as it would suck as well

Current playoff standings. Some VERY juicy matchups there.

I think Vancouver/LA would actually be pretty fun to watch.
Detroit/Chicago has a lot of history involved.
Pens/Caps is a very nice modern rivalry.
Bruins/Canadiens would be fucking Armageddon! :headbanger:

Agree on all counts. L.A. gave us quite the scare in round 1 last year so I'd welcome that as they always tend to play well vs one another.

Man I wish playoffs started today!

We'd get Dallas who's number we've had all year. Calgary would get Chicago which is a series I'd love to see. SJ and L.A. would meet for a great regional rivalry (great for local interest) and Detroit/Phoenix have a little bit of history. Great Western matchups imnsho!! Then, of course, if all went according to Hoyle, we'd get Canucks vs Flames in round 2 as well as Detroit vs San Jose. 2 more potential classics. Damn, where's that time machine remote?!?!

As for the East, the only really interesting 1st round matchup would be Wash/Pitt but at least it would give Carolina a chance to get Philly out of Boston's way

Bring on the Flyers! Bruins need to avenge last year's collapse. We would currently be playing the Rangers who scare me just a little bit only because Henrik Lundqvist is good enough to steal a couple of games on his own. Can't ever get overconfident against a team with a great goalie. Luckily, Tim Thomas has all but locked up the Vezina this season, so he's in top form.

Awesome win by the Bruins, by the way, besting Tampa. I just hope they aren't peaking too early :?.

I wouldn't consider San Jose and Los Angeles a regional rivalry  The arenas are roughly 350 miles/560 kilometers from each other! Though I guess there is a bit of a SoCal/NorCal rivalry. California's too damn big. It should be split into two states.

I'm tellin' ya, after that 6 n' 0 Canadian trip my buddy Mike hasn't shut up about your damn team for a minute. It's getting a little hostile between him and I since they won here. He's a diehard Canuck fan ahead of anyone but the Bruins so our recent woes have me crying and him just clinging to his Boston love. I'm getting close to actually cheering against them just on general principles

Well, not quite 'Battle of Alberta' regional but similar to Vancouver / Calgary.

Man its been ages since we've faced Edmonton in a playoff round.

I would just like to take this opportunity to say YES to last nights game for Calgary, shut out two penalty shots which is awesome! :headbanger:

Well, the Pens stopped the Bruins winning streak last night (though we salvaged a point out of it). It'll be tough for Pittsburgh without Crosby.

didn't know about the winning streak of Boston; I always just look at the Pens' results and read about how the Swiss players do...

well they've mainly played shit past two seasons, but still would suck if they got kicked out.

I wish the major sports in the US had a relegation rule. It would make the games between bottom feeders a lot more exciting. Unfortunately, all the minor league squads are owned by one of the major league teams so the whole setup of the professional organizations would have to happen to make it work.

Whoa! The Bruins/Canadiens rivalry is going to be heated up even more after that hit by Chara. It'll be interesting to see if the league acts on it.

Bruins were atrocious in that game, one that they really should have shown up for, given the very tight race in the East right now. Man, I fucking hate losing to Montreal.

Edit: For the record, I know I'm a massive homer but that I don't think was a suspendable offense. Just unfortunate that the hit happened where it did.

Haven't seen it on tv but just watched one crappy youtube clip of it and it just looks like a bad place to take a normal hit. Many guys have been run into those areas near the benches over the years and it's awful to see but, from the angle I saw at least, it didn't look like Chara ran him into it at all. If anything, it looked like he held up and just the guy's momentum and being off balance led him into it. I hope he's alright as the clip just showed the training staff working on him on the ice then cut off.

*edit* - Well, a couple different angles and I have to change my tune a little. Chara didn't let up like I first thought and did finish his check quite late in a part of the ice that is known to be quite dangerous. I suspect you'll lose your boy for 3 - 5 games my friend.

I'll have to try and catch it from a few different angles when I get home tonight. The league has let much worse slip by.

That was a brutal hit man. Chara SHOULD be suspended, guys that are professionals know where they are on the ice and it was obvious he meant to nail him. I'm surprised he made it out of Montreal unscathed.

Looks like Chara will not be fined or suspended for the hit. The NHL believes it was an unfortunate accident and that the Game Misconduct penalty was enough.

As much as I hate the Canadiens, I hope he has a quick recovery. Stuff like that is not what you want to see happen in hockey.

What a crock of shit. If Chara was such a "clean" player, he wouldn't have slashed Pacioretty in the back of the leg in their last meeting... or perhaps also in the last game they played against each other, that boarding call wouldn't have erupted into a full-on brawl between both teams! Discipline or not, you can bet your bottom dollar he's gonna have a bounty on his Lurch ass in the next meeting.

By the way, I fuckin' HATE Todd Bertuzzi. Just throwing that out there.

March 24th! Mark it on your calendar. Bruins/Canadiens. This one might get a tad ugly.... :?

I must say this, if Matt Cooke got nothing for his hit on Marc Savard last season then Chara shouldn't get penalized for his hit. Blame the NHL.

Anyone have a good link with multiple angles of the hit? I'd still like to have a good look at it as I've only seen one angle of it.

Here you go man. Chara can say what he wants about intent, but with the score 4-0, I'm positive he was looking to hurt somebody. Pacioretty just gave chase, but the defenseman was already back there. He had no reason to finish the check... just let him go. It would've made no difference if Pacioretty crossed into the zone or not.
March 24 might be a bloodbath... at least it better be. Watch little Scotty Gomez whip Chara's ass.

And for the record Mooyagi, I'm not a Bruins hater, I like the Bruins, I just dislike Chara, and I can't see how people can say he's a "clean" player. I put him in the same catagory as McSorley, Bertuzzi, Brashear, and Modano. All of 'em cheap shottin' mother effers.

Then again... it's hockey, eh? :beerwink:

    Thanks Slay! :headbanger:

It's tough to truly tell in slow motion but that reverse angle to me looks like Chara had time to hold up on the check before sending him into the corner. At normal speed (would love a normal speed reverse angle view) it looks almost like he was trying to check him into the small sliver of boards there, but even that is a dumb idea. Regardless of intent, a normal league would certainly suspend him for that hit, but this is the NHL.

Doesn't matter to me if you hate the B's! My teams get plenty of hate on this forum (well, one certainly does  ). Definitely cooler that you like them though.

I'm curious to see who it is that goes after Chara in the next game. One thing that might make it less of a bloodbath than it could be: That game could have some pretty big playoff implications because the race at the top of the Eastern Conference is very tight.
