Yeah, our arena is now called Roger's Arena

    Damn corporate sponsorship!

If they really wanted to impress me they'd buy the building then call it Trevor Linden Arena or something that shows they recognize and appreciate our local culture etc.

I can't stand the corporate stadium naming. At least the Sox still play at Fenway Park. Oh, they won again tonight! :headbanger:

I saw this on Baseball Tonight last night. Let me put my $.02 in and say, "Fuck No!"

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6651634

It's okay to realign as the divisions are a bit uneven in terms of team count and it's fine to bring an NL team to the AL but keep the divisions!

I figure the Brewers would be a good option since they used to be in the AL but then who do you move from the AL Central to the AL West? Would have to be KC or Milwaukee. Guess that's why they are leaning towards Houston.

Houston going to the AL west makes the most sense to me since it casues the least shake up.

I'm more worried about the potential breakup of divisions but then again, you'd probably get 3 out of the 5 playoff contenders to come from the old AL East at that point

Oh, I'm definitely not in favor of getting rid of the divisions. I think what they have now works well enough. You get all the geographical regions represented in the playoffs.

I don't see how 5 playoff spots would work. It's not like football where it's a one game win and you move on playoff. All that downtime for the top seeded teams would ruin any momentum they had going into the postseason.

There's been all kinds of talk about adding a second wild card team so I think that's what it accounts for. I think the playoffs are fine just the way they are. It would cheapen the wild card races if there were 2 spots instead of 1. And baseball players are certainly used to playing every day. Not playing in a game for a while during the first round bye could potentially screw up hitters' timing and pitchers' routines. Simulated games in practice just don't have the same effect.

Yeah, that still makes no sense to me. The four team playoffs work fine and it doesn't drag things out too long.

I can remember not that long ago when there were only two playoff teams from each league and it was a best of five LCS to get to the World Series.

Combined score of the 3 game series sweep: Red Sox 35 - 6 Blue Jays

More Blue Jays please :D I wonder if Wicker Man had fun today

Well what can I say but maybe that the Twins have made for a nice recovery. Pitching has improved greatly and is winning games plus that fact that the bats are swinging, hitting, and scoring runs. I am well shocked at the turn around. 8 games back and 7.5 games from 500. What a June. Hopefully it will last.

Ouch. Dodgers are such a fucking mess. Getting lots of coverage out here. Seems like this might drag out in the courts for a while. McCourt needs to just step down as owner and put the team up for sale.

Good God, Dodgers file bankruptcy and then they beat the Twins. Bad Day.
    Twins back to losing.
I think that they want to hit the 100 games lost mark this year.

Not to be too crass, but something interesting actually happened at a baseball game yesterday at the Texas Rangers game as a father, with his son standing next to him, tried to catch a foul ball, flipped over the railing and died.

 Hadn't heard about that. Mustve been so traumatic for the poor kid. Did he die on the spot or later at the hospital?

Reminds me of an incident last year after a Lakers game where a 2 year old kid fell from a luxury box and died. Family was going to sue the Lakers for having railings that are too dangerous. If I remember correctly, the child was not being supervised very well as the parents were getting hammered in the box or something like that. Not sure what came of that story.

Edit: Just read the story on ESPN. Seems that Josh Hamilton had tried flipping the guy a foul ball and that's what he was reaching for. He was conscious while leaving the stadium and had asked paramedics to please check on his son. Sad, sad story. Guess this is the second over the railing death this season as an event happened at a Rockies game earlier.

Really wanna know what Kevin Gregg said to Big Papi to make him that enraged. Papi had the "I'm gonna fucking kill you" look in his eyes. Wonder what would've happened if he landed any of his punches. Expect to see a suspension coming very soon for that one.

Yeah, I saw that clarification of the story. I can't imagine what John Hamilton is going through.

I thought the person who died this year at a Rockies game fell down a flight of stairs?

Interestingly, a large woman fell over the railing at the Ballpark in Arlington during it's first year, and they raised all the railings to help prevent it from occurring in the future.
Never take anything I say seriously.

He didn't do it against the Sox so I can say this. Enjoy Kevin :beerwink:

Congratulations Derek Jeter. 3000 hits is an amazing achievement. I still hate you but you are the Yankee that I respect the most. Always seem to carry yourself with class and as you approach the twilight of your career, enjoy it.

D’oh, I hope that I did not make a faux pax. I enjoyed watching Jeter hit his 3000 hit as the high light of the sports news the other day, sorry for not paying attention to who the Yankees were playing but since I don’t really like the Yankees I don’t care who they play against other than when the Twins have to play against them. I normally have to shun away. ;-(
But, whatever I can do to pad the Red Sox’s stats I am open to suggestions.
Oh, I guess I should have written the White Sox.
    :P

I will be rooting very hard for the Blue Jays in that series  Anyone gonna waste their time tonight and watch the All Star Game? Might've already started even. I'm just gonna look later and see who won home field advantage (worst rule ever).
I should get around to updating my signature
