    The Big Man Is Gone

by Rum Runner » Sat Jun 18, 2011 7:41 pm

My first post in ages and its with sad news and tears in my eyes.

One of my favorite musicians, Clarence Clemons -- the saxophone playing "Big Man" from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band -- died today. He suffered a stroke a week ago and it apparently was even more serious than was feared.

I grew up listening to him and to this day still get chills when I hear his solo in the song "Jungleland" -- one of my all-time favorite solos on any instrument. I'm putting that track on right now.

Peace and Godspeed to a friend I never got to meet.

Yeah, I heard about the stroke the day after it happened. Hadn't heard about this though. That's a damn shame. At least he lived a full and interesting life before he went. RIP Clarence.

Gee. I wonder if my father knows about this. He was a huge Clarence fan. It will be hard to imagine the E Street band without him.

He was an amazing sax player, but I'll always love him in Bill & Ted:
