Happy Canada Day! You Canadians are all right

I'm in Calgary right now with Marlo. She picked me up at the airport with a Blind Guardian shirt on and now we are eating at a pub called The Unicorn. Read into that what you will.

I'm a bit confused though. The waitress asked me if I wanted gravy on my french fries. What the hell are you canuckleheads doing to precious french fries? I may or may not try poutine this weekend. Wish me luck.

*stands at attention and begins to sing*

"Take off ... to the Great White North.."

what, wrong song? Okay, let me try again:

    "Oh Canaduh
    What’s wrong with you
    You better wake up
    Now what you gonna do?"

Oh well, you'd think that I would have learned the lyrics while I lived there. Have a fantastic rest of Canada Day, and polish off a crate for me!

If you're not offended by rather vulgar lyrics, look up Proud To Be a Canadian by Dayglo Abortions. Some comical lines but a few that are a little tasteless too. Fun BC band with a career spanning over 25 years though :headbanger:

It's from Oh Canaduh, by a classic Vancouver punk band, the Subhumans (not to be confused with the British band of the same name). NoMeansNo covered it, too.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZwH43pLl_Y

We Seattle punks and the Van punks hung out together a lot in the late 70s and early 80s. Had many a fine party with these guys and other Vancouver bands.

Ever meet up with any of the crowd that hung with Death Sentence or the Dayglos?

That was a bit later, though I still have a Dayglos album in my vinyl.

I'm talking more Subhumans, DOA, Dishrags, Pointed Sticks, No Exit, and so on. I bailed out of the local scene in 82 and moved to SF, probably oen of the reasons I'm still alive, as that's about when heroin hit the scene badly.

Pointed Sticks played here just about a month ago. Not my thing but a buddy went and got to hang and meet some of the guys and sang like 2 verses of one song into the mic from the front row lol

Yeah, I have friends who were pretty close to the Death Sentence crew back in their heyday and the drugs really shot things to shit pretty fast for them. Too bad as they were one of my faves. Very metal'ish' punk stuff.

Here's a couple tracks for Canada Day!

Probably the worst song on their one and only album (Not A Pretty Sight/Stop Killing Me) but was the record company's idea of a single - Danger Zone I think parts were shot in Seattle

Some much better tunes - Dawn of the Dead, RCMP (our national police force up here) and my personal fave, In Flames

Yeah, this was the local band that I was closest to, being as the drummer was my boyfriend. The singer went on to front The Accused, the first guitarist has published a painful memoir called "American Junkie" , and the drummer that replaced my boyfriend after he became too screwed up to play later played bass for an obscure little band called Guns'n'Roses. Of the Van crowd, we probably hung out with DOA the most.

Love it up here! Definitely can see myself enjoying it if I do get the chance to move.

And I did try poutine yesterday. Verdict: Decent but still kinda weird. Still prefer ketchup, bbq sauce or chili and cheese on my fries.
