Thursday: worked 12 hours + commuting
Friday: worked 7 hours + commuting
Saturday: working 12 hours + commuting
Sunday: sleeping. If I can go the entire day without putting on pants, it will be a successful day.

Nothing specific. We just decided to go up there in part for a belated celebration of Erik and Nicole getting engaged and just hanging out, too. Haven't seen them or Debb since the cruise!

We have no idea. I figure if we get bored, we can go to downtown Phoenix and incite a riot. :bitch: :beerbang:

Taking the girls to see this tomorrow night. We know someone who skates with this team, and she thought they might like to see another aggressive female sport since they do mixed martial arts. Ever since I knew that Australia Rachel and Canadian Anika do roller derby, I've wanted to see it live! Rachel told me the WIndy City Rollers are a great team.

Never been to a roller derby event. That sorta thing looks fun.

I'm going to Boston tomorrow and coming back Sunday. Should be a nice, short trip.

I've never been to roller derby either - but I'm all about wanting to try new things/having new experiences as much as possible (within reason) - so why not? :D (plus it seems like it would be especially fun to watch live) I'm looking forward to reporting back to the 2x 70K alums/roller derby queens Rachel & Anika afterward. :P Salexa - since you're new to 70K (welcome btw!), you most likely don't know them - but both are great gals! They are Evican & ragnaroks_roller on this forum - but rarely post here anymore. :( Last I heard from Rachel, she's not doing 70K 2013; not sure about Anika.

I see you're from the NYC area. I'm looking forward to a long weekend in October to visit my niece who has lived & worked in Manhattan for a few years. Haven't been to NYC in more than 20 years - it's been too long! I especially love the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I also am keen on seeing the 9-11 memorial site which I've heard is quite impressive to visit.

@Laura -- that sounds like a ton of fun. Always fun to get into new stuff. I got really into UFC a few years ago and now I'm addicted. I guess I really like stuff where there is a high likelihood of bodily injury. Roller derby is probably right up my alley. (Thanks for the welcome, btw!).

When are you coming through in October? The weather should be nice then. Not too hot. I hate it when it's too hot -- it just gets so damn muggy and humid and the subway is a nightmare in the heat. Especially if your subway car has no AC. The MoMA is great, although I really love the Metropolitan Museum of Art more. It's just your preference. The NY Historical Society is great too, but they often have renovations so I wouldn't head up there unless you know for sure things are open. Also worth checking out is the Metropolitan Opera House - I love the Met. It's so nice.

I haven't been to the 9-11 Memorial. I still don't want to go to it. Maybe one day I will. Not now, though. I've heard it's really well done, though, and worth a visit if you are so inclined.

@mooyagi -- My friend and I randomly decided that a short weekend trip to Boston would be fun. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and driving there. It'll be fun. I still honestly have no idea what we're doing -- we're planning this very last minute. I haven't been to Boston in quite a while.

@Inquisitor & @DrinkMoxie -- Haha, now my trip to Boston makes me feel hip.

I lived in Boston in the late 90s and loved it... went to about 5 shows per week... good times!

Tonight I'm seeing Abigail Williams play their last ever Northeast performance... glad I get to see them play songs from "Becoming"

Hi again Salexa! Well, seeing the Windy City Rollers was a lot of fun. I'm glad the program explained a lot about it - because I didn't know about the various positions like "jammer" and so on. I was somewhat surprised how many people were there - the UIC pavillion is a large stadium (haha - last time I was there was for Slayer, Testament, & Megadeth a few years ago) and there was a very good size crowd....didn't realize roller derby has such a following. Our girls enjoyed it - before the WCR and the opposing Denver team came out, the announcer invited all the kids out on to the floor and lined them up along the edge of the track. Next, both teams came out and skated by them, giving each kid a high five. When the girts came back to the stands, they were all excited and said, "they wear mouth guards too!" (they are wearing theirs in the pic below) They have been doing mixed martial arts (karate, grappling, boxing, stick fighting, knife fighting, and so on) for 7 years, and in fact yesterday did a 6 hour intensive test for their next level (probationary jr. black belt for the 13 year old and full jr. black belt for the 14 year old). You'd never know it to look at them, because they are petite, very girlie girls. :P I personally haven't watched much UFC type stuff, but husband and the girls do on occasion. I think it's about time we see something like that live though - think that would be an interesting experience at the very least! As far as that kind of thing goes, I enjoy watching old Bruce Lee movies, and more modern films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

And thanks for the NYC comments (I'll be there the weekend of October 20).

The daughters several years ago (the kids wear full padding for boxing and such).

^^^ yes, it is! For me, what is even more strange (in a good way though most the time), is seeing parts of myself in them.
