Usually when I meet bands I do not have my camera on me... I like to go crazy at shows and don't like to bring it or have to go back to the car.... I got a metal friend that I just met that night to take that pic. They played right before Satyricon. Good show. I have chilled with Chimaira, and especially Rob from Chimaira a bunch of times and never even got my picture with him.

I only have a few with famous musicians....here's one of them from Sept 22, 2009 after a sold-out Porcupine Tree gig at the Vic Theatre in Chicago. That's Steven Wilson, founder, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of Porcupine Tree; solo artist; member of other groups such as Blackfield; producer of Opeth's Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation; producer of the recent album by Orphaned Land, and so much more - definitely one of my musical heroes! (This picture makes me lol a bit though - partly 'cause he looks so "non-rock star," plus that Opeth logo on my shirt is just waaaay too big !

Yeah - PT is pretty awesome! Hearing In Absentia for the first time several years ago really got me back into music in a big way. I saw them for the first time 2 nights in a row Oct 11 & 12, 2005 at the Park West. Those were the two concerts used for their DVD Arriving Somewhere and SO great! I've seen them a few times since including the show last fall where they performed the new album The Incident in its entirety. When I met Steven, I thanked him for his music, as well as being single-handedly responsible for getting me into metal music because of his work with Opeth! Love your Opeth pictures btw!

thanks! Loved seeing PT do The Incident all the way through a year ago - they came back to do it again this past May but missed that one. I think it's just as well - that September show was so perfect in so many ways, I always want to remember The Incident the way it was that night. It's been a few years now since I saw Opeth last - would love to see them again in January!

One of the reasons I'm REALLY looking forward to the cruise is how great it will be to meet so many fun new people and double great that most will have similar taste in music. That is certainly what made my two trips to Wacken so special. Here's a few more pics and stories about them (I know I've been kinda spamming this pic thread , but Deb said she liked my stories )

The last night of Wacken, August 7, was so cool cause I got to see Immortal (10:00-11:00pm) for the first time...and that was after an amazing full day of shows including Caliban (1:15-2:15pm), Kampfar (2:30-3:30pm), Overkill (3:45-4:45p), Delain (5:00-6:00pm), first part of W.A.S.P. (6:15-7:15pm), all of Varg (6:40-7:10pm), first part of Cannibal Corpse (7:30-8:30pm), and all of Tyr (8:00-9:00pm). Soulfly started at 11:15pm, and I watched a bit, but decided I needed to just sit somewhere and take a break before another huge show I was looking forward to at 12:30am - Tiamat doing Wild Honey in its entirety. So I walked over to this place they called the supermarket 'cause they sold beer there and had decent food, and it was a good place to chill. I bought a beer and start walking to one of the long wooden tables to sit down and I heard someone yell out "Chicago!" I turned around and it was a German couple my friend and I had met last summer! We had not stayed in touch or anything, so they had no idea I was going to be there again. Well, it was so awesome to see them and we had great fun laughing and partying. The guy on the left in the back is the 16 year old son of one of the women and it was his first Wacken. Such great times.

I didn't fly home till Monday after Wacken, so I just spent Sunday resting up in Itzehoe (had not gotten back to the hotel till 4:30 am or so ). Took a walk in the afternoon, and was actually feeling a bit glum that it was all over and I would be back to "real life" soon. I went to get something to eat at a cafe/restaurant and soon struck up a conversation with a guy from southern Germany. He had a Carcass shirt on, so I had to guess he had been at Wacken! Later, this young guy from Australia I had seen at my hotel earlier in the day walked by, said hello, and joined us for drinks. Well, the conversation was great....Wacken, metal, Wacken, metal, and more metal. So, it was middle-aged me from the States, a German guy, and a 20-year Australian totally on the same wave length talking metal . The German guy and I said that perhaps the Aussie was our long-lost metal son - so we decided we needed a "family picture."

This was an action shot while headbanging taken by my friend, Mark Carras at Rockmymonkey.com during Nile @ Ozzfest a couple years back. It was pretty funny, I didn't know he was in the photopit and didn't see the picture till afterwards and being that I helped book Nile to their off-date show in Seattle (they're friend's of mine) the first thing Karl says to me the next day was "I went to the website to see the new Nile pictures and the first picture I see is of YOU!"
