I just can't go for that. Not yet.

Oh, wow. Are you mistaken. These little bastards are far from super sweet. They're pure evil. Concentrated evil. They make you think they love you, and then one night you're sitting down to a juicy porterhouse steak, and WHAM! They swing a baseball bat right into the sweet spot at the back of your head. You go down like a sack-full of wet mice. Then they work as a team, dragging your limp body to your bedroom where they somehow manage to pull you up onto the bed. You wake up three hours later feeling like little men in black trenchcoats kicked in the door to your brain and trashed the place. When you finally crawl your way to the living room, you find only the bone of what was once a juicy sizzling porterhouse lying on the floor next to an upended TV-tray, the empty shell of an oven-baked potato once laden with sour cream and butter, and a broken dinner plate. You look to your right, and to add insult to injury, the little fuckers are sleeping on your couch with bulging bellies. One of them farts, and as the pungent aroma of digested porterhouse and baked potato reaches your nostrils, you pass out.

By the way, they say Hi. They always say Hi.

YES! I had a great time talking to you too - in fact, I think I probably talked to you, Michael D, EvilDan, Martin, onenight (Stan), Diane & Louise from Vegas, Debb, and of course roomie Margie for the longest periods of time one on one which was great. Most of my other conversations were more among a group of people and fairly brief it seemed - like last year, there just never seemed to be enough time and that was often frustrating to me.

My little Laura's actually are fairly open-minded when it comes to music - although most of what they like and listen to the most is the popular/top of the charts kinda stuff from Katy Perry to Coldplay to Adele to Taylor Swift to various rap & hip-hop artists. They also know a lot of classic rock songs just because so much of that is part of popular culture now like when they do a Journey song on Glee or used Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song in one of the Shrek movies. They think most of the metal music I like is "just plain weird" - especially any kind of death growls ("mommmm! he - referring to Mikael Akerfeldt - sounds like a GORILLA!) and when they were about 9 & 11, I showed them a Dimmu Borgir video and it scared them. :? so I was kinda "low key" about my metal interests around them after that.
My daughter Genevieve's favorite song at the moment is Coldplay's Paradise which I like very much as well.

Awesome. I had to have a top-40 childhood (1970-75) because my family lived in Taiwan through those years and all we had was Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS) (which we called a-farts) and when I got back to the states in '75 we were innundated with FM radio (a new concept in those days) and LedZeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, etc. I naturally took to metal, and then my older sister (PBUH) got me into underground and punk, and I went from there.

With age come acceptance, but I still think it's funny that your girls think your metal musical tastes are extreme. And I'm sure they actually wear that as a badge of honor at the school lunch table: "Well, my mom listens to Dimmu Borgir and stuff. She has big black leather boots and brass knuckles".

Yes, I hope so! - at least we got a chance to talk at the post-party  - really enjoyed that, but wished there was more time. I still think it's like the coolest thing ever that you and Jurgen won the cruise for the "most metal picture" (all your wedding pictures on your fb are fantastic btw!  ) And also that you named one of your children Shagrath. Also wanted to mention how much I enjoyed Channel Zero in the Spectrum (Go Belgium!) - I spoke briefly to the lead singer afterward and he was so nice and appreciative of the people who came to see them, plus he gave me their latest cd! :D I have some great pictures from when he invited everyone to come up on the stage - hope to finally get all my cruise pix on facebook this weekend.

Many Americans go anyways. What's stoppin' ya? The fear of a fine or patriotic devotion?

You don't have a U.S. passport as well?

I couldn't go there directly either but had to fly to Cancun first and go through customs there twice, I guess Americans could do the same thing. At the check-in in Miami I was interrogated about why I didn't have a flight back home from Cancun yet though. Fortunately they bought my lie that I didn't know yet whether I was staying there for one or two weeks. I don't know what they do if you tell them "I'm gonna fly straight through to Havana"...

^^^ as far as I know, ordinary Americans with only American passports can not go to Cuba - period. Probably one of the very few places in the world we can't! We have a few nice books in the architecture collection (that I selected  ) where I work including The Houses of Old Cuba - would really like to go someday.

I've read that that even holds if you have two passports including a U.S. one. But the Cubans don't mind letting Americans in as far as I know, so if you make it to Mexico, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas or even Canada you should be able to get there. I can imagine the customs in the U.S. to be a bit more suspicious and tougher on their own citizens trying to fly to one of those countries without an already booked return flight than they were on me though...
Good to see that your daughter is getting some proper education by the way ;)

Ah. Wow, I didn't realise rhere were so many hurdles to it. Also surprised the govt still clings so firmly to this historical animosity but I guess it makes some sense.

Not legally. You are a US citizen and are bound to the embargo just like the rest of us. Of course, not like restrictions have ever stopped Mexicans from getting into a country before :P

I believe the government has lifted some restrictions for native Cubans to visit family but that's it. It's such a stupid fucking thing. The governments don't get along so the people, who have fuck all to do with it aren't allowed to visit?

Blah, I'd just use my Mexican passport and not even have the US one with me. How would they know?
