thanks! i was fishing for information about the job from one of our administrator ladies (admins know EVERYTHING, befriend them!), and i found out that the one guy who could really beat me out for this job DID apply...booo....i was so hoping he would NOT. anyway she told me the 8 people who applied and i heard his name and said "well there goes my shot" she said...."not necessarily, there are things afoot that i can't discuss, you had better still prepare for that interview".

she must know something, and I like the sound of it, whatever is afoot....perhaps it's 'Aboot' me!

hearing the word 'afoot' makes me want to say "aboot' like a Canadian.

Sounds promising! Good luck Rhia!

That's awesome Bill! Interesting about the traveling part, reminded me of a male flight attendant that I met - he said he loved his job because of all the metal shows he had the opportunity to see - in each city he visited he would look into what shows were playing the nights he was there. An additional perk perhaps to a change up in lifestyle for you for an idea to get you excited for it? Well best of luck and hope you enjoy it, whether you end up doing it for a short time or longer.

And kick some ass Rhia! CLIMB BABY CLIMB :deathmetal:

A chance to see more shows (or catch a tour twice of one that you really like) can't hurt though?

not likely, unless timing on a Columbus area trip works nicely... pretty much only shows in Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh and on rare occasion Wheeling... Columbus is the only one I can't just make a short trip to on any given day

I'll let you all know how it goes!

i too just applied (last week) for a huge step up. i don't know what my odds are (i know there are 4-5 other people applying at least), but it would be quite a fancy title (i'd be the head of a department here, and a Director). My stress level and responsibilities would increase dramatically but i don't feel it is anything i can't handle. Interviews should be in June/July and i should know something by the end of July I would think.

good luck to you Carrie!

I already received the "no longer under consideration" message from the staffing system. LOL I knew it was a long shot. Oh, well. I wasn't thrilled about doing a long commute, or missing shows. I like my 1 1/2 mile commute to work. Driving through Seattle during rush hour and rain really sucks.

I'll just continue to work hard and try my best to make a difference where I'm at. Good luck to you, Rhia! And congrats, Moxie!

yeah trust me i drive 45-60 minutes one way each day, i would kill for 1.5 miles....sorry you didn't get a shot at an interview though Carrie. i'm sure opportunities will keep pace with you though, sounds like you've already had some nice career growth so no reason it shouldn't continue!

thanks everyone! i'm a little freaked out because this is moving along quite quickly now and i'm so busy! i really need to prepare well for my interviews!

some other good news....i found out that besides our Vice President in quality, one of the other people on the interview team is our Dir. of Environmental/health/safety, and she LOVES me, we have worked together plenty, and i always use her as a reference when my boss is giving me my review. so i'm liking that news quite a bit.

Congrats, Rhia! That degree in Engineering is much better for aerospace companies than a degree in Management. I'm afraid that will ultimately hold me back here. All of our top directors and executives have engineering degrees.

I'm not really looking at returning to school, the math classes required for an engineering degree would make my brain explode! LOL I spent the last 30 years raising kids (I got married a month out of high school and had my first baby 9 months later). This is the first time in my life I've been able to go to shows anytime I want to. I'm really enjoying it!!

Haven't written on this thread in awhile.... but have enjoyed reading all the posts! (and thanks Bill for starting it!)

A special good luck to Carrie and Rhia on your upcoming interviews!

I've probably said it before on the forum in one way or another, but I really love the fact that we are such a diverse group of people here in so many ways - age, personality, interests, professions, life experiences & perspectives, country of origin, and so on. I think it's always a good thing to expose oneself to many different kinds of people, and I know I've learned a lot from reading all your posts on the forum for more than two years. So - !

Reading Carrie & Rhia's posts underscored for me how different my job experience/career path/goals have been compared to theirs for example. This August will be my 23rd anniversary as a reference librarian in a specialized arts (visual & performing) department in a major library. I honestly can not think of a single job that I would want to do more (outside of fantasy stuff like rock star a la Doro Pesch or Tarja...or world-reknown professor/lecturer/author of many books - :P ). So, I plan to stay at my same job indefinitely, well at least another 10 years and maybe longer. I can't tell you how much satisfaction I get when helping people find the information they need using the phenomenal collections we have.... and I learn something (really many things) new every day from the questions people ask/research they are doing. I never wanted to advance to an administrative level (more $), because that would take me away from what I like to do most/why I took the job in the first place! In short, when and if I retire, I'd miss the place terribly....ha.

Besides my full-time job... I do have a number of visual arts/writing projects (some which intersect with my various musical interests from my lifetime to date) I'd like to develop & explore. Most of that would be for personal interest and use per se... But if any of it ends up turning out worthwhile enough in my view, I may pitch the finished product(s) to a wider audience (ha - beyond me, myself, & I). At the moment, however, I'm thinking I may "back burner" that kinda thing until our kids start college (4 & 5 years from now respectively).

gnoff, over the last year I've gotten the impression you might like beer. Over my lifetime I've noticed a decent number of people like and spend money on beer. It seems likely you could make a living on beer, which you seem to like. I'm willing to bet you'd be pretty happy making a living off beer.
