No singing - but it was something like a concert, a show, just without singing.
I thought all the time how it would be if the elephants have to piss when they walk one Meter next to the sitting Crowd.
Another Show like this was Rick Springfield with EFX in the MGM Mirage - not in the List, it was embarrassing ....

btw: the 7 year break was exact the time i was married. will never do this again ....

Heh, most of the bands I've seen would be pretty unfamiliar to a metal crowd, what with me being an old punk weirdo and all; but I did see Led Zeppelin twice, The Who 3 times, 2 of them while Keith was still alive, and the Stones once.

My first and second concerts were in the same week - the New York Dolls followed by Frank Zappa a few days later, guaranteeing that I'd have weird musical tastes for the rest of my life.

In the early 80s my apartment was practically a punk hostel for bands traveling through the area on a shoestring. I put up lots of West Coast bands and especially Vancouver bands, since we were the closest place they could go for an out of town gig. Even had the occasional Brit band over.

The years of arena rock and punk have taken quite a toll on my hearing though, so I don't go to that many gigs these days.

^^^ deadrose - I suspect we are around the same age, plus I've listened to and enjoyed a lot of genres in my life (including punk :P ) - so I'd probably know the bands you didn't list. :beerwink:

 Thanks for listing your gigs deadrose! Gosh - I do know of the vast majority of those bands and have seen many of them as well. Did I read somewhere that you can't make it on the 2012 cruise? If so, that's a shame - it would be great to meet you and talk about the old days ;) - lol - I'm starting to sound like my grandma Billie when she was alive. Speaking of old days, you may appreciate the fact that I saw The Cars and Big Audio Dynamite over the weekend, who I saw for the first and only other time 30 and 20 years ago respectively. And both still sounded great I must say. :P

Ah that's awesome. Yeah, thanks to our landlord's flakiness when it comes to making mortgage payments, we have to keep the money in reserve for losing this place suddenly. Thought we were going to have to move already, but he's apparently hanging onto the house by his fingernails.

It's really too bad, I wanted to make the cruise this year - but hopefully next!

Great! Really fun to see them again after so many years - Ric Ocasek (now 63!) looks just about the same - tall, skinny beanpole, same hair, same glasses - his voice is still pretty good - although not quite up to snuff from the early days. Of course, I knew every classic hit they did - I think my favorite of the set was "You're All I've Got Tonight" - I've always loved that song & lyrics.

i don't know if you realize this, but the late great Ben Orr actually sang lead vocals on over half of the Cars songs, so what you probably heard was Ric Ocasek singing stuff that Ben Orr actually sang on the recording.

Ok, finally succumbed to the pressure and found my bravery to post my gig history onto this forum.
Now, mind you that all of these concerts I have really gone to either by my own choice, being brought (at times dragged) by an older sibling, a parent, or the female flavor from that period (you will know the obligation shows) LOL, plus some are just sinful delights. LOL
    With older sibling,
    Led Zeppelin 4/12/1977
Ted Nugent, Foreigner, & Mike Stanley 5/15/1977
    Kansas & Crow 9/2/1977

Neil Young & Crazy Horse 10/15/1978
Ted Nugent, Scorpions, & Blackfeet 1978
Steve Miller, The Eagles, and Pablo Cruise at the old Met Stadium 1978
    With Parents
    Roy Clark 1977

By my own volition or Female flavor of the time obligation and or just sinful delights. LOL

A lot of local bar bands. Some made it big while others did not but here are some of my memories.
Chameleon---Became YANNI No Shit. I have the proof.
Suburbs, Semisonic, Soul Asylum, Slave Raider—became Hairball, Night Crawler, Paragon, Fairchild, Crash Street Kids, Flaming O’s, Melanie Rosales, Mary Jane Alm, Prince, The Time, Jessie Johnson’s Revenue, Wendy and Lisa, Dez Dickerson’s Band, Big Walter Smith, Lamont Cranston, Honeydogs, Raggs, Tevin Campbell, (Transplants for a short time-Janet Jackson, Herb Albert, Donnie Osmond) Brian Setzer (Current transplant) Alexander O’Neil, Dare Force, Regime, Lorie Line. There was a time you could and at times still catch them playing in a bar. There are more but I just can’t remember them all.

Sports, include MN Twins (Baseball), St. Paul Saints (Baseball),Vikings (Football), Timber Wolves (Basketball), North Stars (Hockey) but were moved to Dallas. Roller Derby, All Star Wrestling (Wrestling fans will remember The Hulk, Jessie The Body Ventura, Mad Dog Vachon. Road Warriors, Greg Gagne, Verne Gagne, Jim Brunzell, Adrian Adonis, Ken Patera, Jerry Blackwell, Jerry Lawler, Curt Hennig, Buck Zumhofe, Baron Von Raschke, etc.)
(While in San Francisco) Giants vs Phillies 7/8/1994
(While in San Francisco) World Cup in San Francisco Game 48 7/10/1994
(While in Chicago) Cubs vs. Phillies 8/24/2006
(While in Chicago) White Soxs vs. Twins 8/25/2006

    I am done.

Michael! So much gold in there it's not even funny. ;) :P I knew you had been sayin' for awhile on fb that you were gonna post your whole gig history (from comments when I posted some random tickets from my past, and so on)- so thanks - cool! Too much there to comment on in detail atm...but, in short, I love your list....**plus** any fan of REO Speedwagon is a friend 'o mine. ;) :whisky: - I bet there are a fair amount of people here who don't know them except for perhaps their later sappy ballads - I prefer their pre-1978 stuff. Plus - they went to my alma mater University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign  :beerbang:

oh..and since you saw Ted Nugent in 1978 (and I in 1979) gotta repost (for at least the 5th time here I think ;) ) his performance of STRANGLEHOLD on the Midnight Special in 1979. Omg - was I crazy about him and his music when I was a teen. :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9UJT0dR ... re=related

Instead of doing an exercise in 'load testing' on this forum I'll follow Tobbe's example:

    20x: Saxon
    19x: Arch Enemy
    17x: Exodus
    16x: Opeth, Death Angel
15x: Kreator, Destruction, After Forever, Finntroll, Volbeat, Rowwen Hèze, Chain of Dogs
    14x: Iced Earth, Amorphis
13x: Testament, Slayer, Nevermore, Amon Amarth
    12x: Sabaton, Evergrey, Mercenary
    11x: Riverside, Sodom, Vader, Epica
10x: Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, Swallow the Sun, Moonspell, Motörhead

In addition, I've been keeping track of all the gigs I've been to since 2009 on Last.fm:
    http://www.last.fm/user/KayMeertens/events

I've decided I'm not going to put in all the effort to trace them all back to 2001 (Night of the Proms that year with Meat Loaf must have been my first real concert) though, although that's much shorter than some of the other forummers have been around.

Well this will be embarrassing. Here's my short gig history:

    Killswitch Engage (2006)
    Megadeth (2007l)
36 Crazyfists (many times in high school 2004-2008)
    Turisas (2011)
    Ensiferum (2011)
    Finntroll (2011)
    Cradle of Filth (2011)
    Nachtmystium (2011)
Between the Buried and Me (2011)
    Judas Priest (2011)
    "Thin Lizzy" (2011)
    Black Label Society (2011)

Non-metal (all 2010 unless otherwise noted):
Portugal the Man (2008, 2010, seeing again in 2 weeks)
    Public Enemy
    DeadMau5
    Kid Cudi
    Ween
    MGMT
    My Morning Jacket
    LCD Soundsystem
    Minus the Bear (2010, 2011)
    OK Go
    Simian Mobile Disco
    She & Him - Zooey Deschanel's band
    New Pornographers
    Taj Mahal (2008)

Only 6 of these bands actually came to Alaska, and 2 of those are from here anyway. The rest I had to leave state to see.
I'm probably forgetting a handful, but there's what I can remember.

Plus - they went to my alma mater University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign  :beerbang:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCeGCSvueM8 (from that TWENTY DVD set I own of the Best of the Midnight Special)

oh..and since you saw Ted Nugent in 1978 (and I in 1979) gotta repost (for at least the 5th time here I think ;) ) his performance of STRANGLEHOLD on the Midnight Special in 1979. Omg - was I crazy about him and his music when I was a teen. :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9UJT0dR ... re=related

OMG Laura, what a great REO video. Pick up their Soundstage DVD “Live from The Heartland” filmed in Chicago. It is a really good DVD and up to date. It has an acoustic flavor. My GOD! Kevin’s hair, LOL and their clothes. Ha Ha. http://youtu.be/mTBoxSrIZhs

As for Ted, this is also a great video. Stranglehold is my favorite tune of his while the album Free For All is my favorite Nugent record. Ted’s lead singer in this video is now playing in a reformed Foghat and his voice still sounds good. Oh, and before I forget, Ted during one of his tours while playing in the old Civic Center actually put a crack in the ceiling from how LOUD he use to play. It is a really close call on who was louder Ted or The Who.

Since posting my list I remembered a few more bands that I had seen, like Dire Straits, DEVO, Whitesnake opening for Motley Crue (Theatre of Pain), Poison and New York Dolls with Motley (6/24/11). There is a Def Lepperd show in the Round (Hysteria tour), another Bon Jovi (New Jersey Tour), and two more times seeing Nickelback before they really hit big. In one year Nickelback (2005/2006) played here four different times and each time was into a bigger venue.

My friend pointed out a few more from the local seen that I left off, such as The Replacements, Husker Du, DVC Band, Gemini, and still more but it gets to be a blur. Concerts/live music is the only VICE that I have. LOL
    Thanks and enjoy.

11x: Riverside, Sodom, Vader <---- wow i'm jealous! i've seen Vader quite a bit but never Riverside and only Sodom twice.

Well Sodom are from my region (across the border, but still only an hour away) and Riverside play in the Netherlands and Belgium really often, so fortunately I've also had plenty of opportunities to see them live. I guess we're quite spoiled with concerts in western Europe anyway. On the other hand there are a few American bands that never come to Europe and are still on top of my wishlist...

I would love to actually know all the shows I've been to. I could never find all the ticket stubs, and many shows didn't have tix. I can safely say I've been to more than 500 shows. (Maybe more than 1000?) Now if we consider how many bands at each show.... wow... that's a lot of money. Plus, throw in the shirts and booze.
Never take anything I say seriously.

I'm in the same boat there. I have a fair number of stubs - I think I've actually managed to keep those from all shows I've been to - but I've also been to many a shows where I didn't pre-purchase a ticket and have no 'evidence' of going to said show.
Last.fm shows that I've been to 90 shows since 2004, but I've definitely been to more than that, though I would guess I've not been to more than 200 shows yet.

My complete list (or as complete as I think it can be - around 98%) took me a couple years off and on to compile. The process started about 3-4 years ago when I started going through all of my possessions and files in 2 large 4-drawer cabinets in an effort "to simplify." My goal was to reduce my *stuff* by about 50%, which I came close to achieving I think (including giving away lots of clothes, books, cd's, and *all* my lps) Aaanyway, many of the things in my files included every kind of imaginable ticket receipt or stub (including even every airline ticket - lol), programs and reviews of various theatrical, music, and other kinds of events I'd been to), and nearly 40 years of diaries (started diary writing in grade school :P ) and calendars and various datebooks. I ended up getting rid of the majority of the stuff in the file cabinets (except for the concert ticket stubs which are all in *one* box. Some of the other stuff I scanned -or- transcribed particular info/writings/thoughts in an app called Notebooks. Part of my impetus for doing all of this was the fact that I'd known some people who had died and how much *stuff* relatives and friends had to go through - I never liked the idea of people going through my "stuff" when I'm gone...especially the diaries and such which are often highly personal. ;) The only type of thing I still have a crazy ridiculous amount of is photographs - thousands from pre-digital age - I'd give almost anything to magically have all of those scanned and then I'd dump the originals.

back in the late 90's I had a notebook I was gonna start tracking all the bands I'd seen and when in, but I started and already couldn't remember half of 'em (I started goin' to shows summer of '88, shortly before my 10th bday)... so I just decided, if it can't be complete, why bother start now... I do wish I could go back in time and give young me a spreadsheet as well as a couple nice investment tips haha

I just put my ticket stubs in my band jewel cases over the album cover, yet another reason why I won't turn my back on CDs.

For some reason, I've always liked tickets as physical objects/artifacts. I just always put them in one place, so that's why I have the majority from the concerts, plays, museums/art exhibits, and so on that I've been to. Not sure why I don't have tix for some of the music gigs - maybe I lost them that evening? :trashdrink: :smoking: Who knows! Also, there have been so many free gigs I've been to at annual events in Chicagoland like Taste of Chicago, Naperville Rib Fest, etc. and none of those had tickets. That's when my various calendars, datebooks, and diaries came in handy when I compiled my entire list spanning 1970 to the present. I'm so glad I wrote all that stuff down! I'm sure you all think I'm nuts by now, but all of those events were/are such a HUGE part of my life and who I am, that I enjoy reflecting on it all. That is not to say I live in the past - far from it - rather, I'm always looking forward to what's next. And if I live another 50 years (which I hope and plan to :P ) that's a lotta "next."

    TWO WORDS.
    ANAL-RETENTIVENESS.
Most of my Ticket stubs all went into a scrap book or were written on a calendar and then noted into the scrap book. Stubs are small and all of mine are neatly in a 3-ring binder.
    OCPD. LOL

I was going to say I've never seen this thread before, but I posted to it earlier in the year. So I'm just going to update the list.

    2003:
Deep Purple / Lynyrd Skynyrd - Dublin
    Metallica - Dublin

I have like...3 ticket stubs saved: Sasquatch music festival, Turisas, and Ensiferum/Finntroll. My gig history was short enough that I remember when/where/who I went with for all my gigs.

I only have my Wacken ticket from 2009 and I still carry around my Sea Pass from the first cruise. I gotta remember to take that one out of my wallet before we set sail

I lost my sea pass some where on Miami Beach.
    Damn Pick Pockets. LOL
I think I dropped at Joe's Crab Shack. Still sad.
