Are they written with the same huge font as Harry Pooper books? You know the kind of font that makes you think you are back in third grade in the special bus?

I'm pretty sure the content of the book takes care of that

Mean!

I did feel kind of old reading the books

Ah, that's one of the worst things about growing up: Feeling immature doing something you used to love. Blind Guardian sparked my interest in the Dragonlance saga, but I was too old to still find it interesting. Sigh.

Hm...... I tend to agree, though physically I think Bella is pretty well cast. Acting wise.......... not so much

I still can't help wondering what casting her with Keeanu Reeves would be like. She's like his female counterpart isn't she?

the ONLY way they could get me to watch those movies would be to make a remake called Twiright and have the entire cast be naked asian girlies... I'd still watch it on mute

Well I didn't feel old for reading, just for reading those particular books (if I remember right, the narrator is 17 years old). I looooooooove the Harry Potter books and LOTR. I actually plan on re reading LOTR soon

I hated how the cut one of Saruman's biggest parts from the Two Towers in the movie. I was pissed! though I heard it's in the extended versions, so I may have to get that.

I love the Harry Potter books and could easily reread them. They flow very well. LOTR I love, but it is a harder read. I tend to get distracted by how Tolkien described everything a little too much, made it harder for me to get into the story. But who knows if that will still be the case when I read them now. Hopefully my attention span is better

have you read Sigurd and Gudrun yet?

:D

i enjoy tolkien too much.. the thing with his writings is that he tries to successfully create a whole mythology out of his works.. that and his background and affinity to linguistics and filology makes his reading very rich and challenging for some people who expect his works to be similar to the writing in the hobbit , or even lotr, but its fascinating when you get to read the silmarillion which is the bible of his world, and then understand his inclusions of former stories and references to previous stories that take place in the first ages... ;)

now back to the reason i lurked this thread.. any good german movie somebody recommends?

I've heard of a heartwarming independent film, called the Human Centipede. Great to watch with your girlfriend while drinking hot cocoa.

I think the audience is divided 50-50 between people who want to see if their stomachs can handle it and people who secretly get off on it.

Upon Margie's strong recommendation, I saw the movie Hesher last week - wow! What a bizarre story and a bizarre cast of characters - LOVED IT! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is fantastic - also liked Rainn Wilson a lot.

Image

On the other hand, I was not as keen on Thor which I finally saw for the first time a few weeks ago. I guess I'm not so into the Marvel comics kind of thing - would have much preferred a darker, more serious (authentic?) movie dealing with norse mythology. Saving grace was that Thor was super hot! :D

And hehe, I'm still awaiting Breaking Dawn with bated breath. :gulp:

I also appreciate that about Tolkien, but at the same time, it can be difficult when you're not in the mood for that kind of depth. It took me several tries to get into The Silmarillion, but once I did, it was fascinating. I've shied away from a LOT of Tolkien because I'm not convinced of other people continuing the stories "with his notes". I haven't read any of the new Dune stuff for the same reason.

I had that with The Silmarillion as well, but it was worth the effort. I had to read some parts over to make sure I got everything (I get very distracted while doing anything). The version I own has some world maps, family trees, timelines and whatnot so it helped out a lot.

Cool. I just had a MPB. I do have a really nice red leather-bound LOTR with really cool, big maps, etc. like you mentioned.

now back to the reason i lurked this thread.. any good german movie somebody recommends?

Sorry, hadn't seen this. I haven't read it yet, since I wanted to read LOTR again first, though would you recommend Sigurd and Gudrun first? I've kind been saving the books for a time when I can just sit and read, instead of making myself in short instances.

So I'm actually curious about the Harold and Kumar xmas movie, but why start showing it now? It'll be dead before Thanksgiving, and I absolutely refuse to pay attention to anything xmas until after Thanksgiving. Does it suck so bad it can't compete? Or are they expecting a 2 month run?

Silly American, thanksgiving was weeks ago! And yes I agree that it's messed up that they are releasing it now. They probably didn't want to compete with other christmas movies.

Agreed (on the competing part not on Thanksgiving). Maybe this is a down time for new releases so they are trying to release it at a time when it's the only thing that's out to see so people will just pick it by default. Might also be more cost effective to release a film this time of year than around the holiday. I'd think the studio plans on making most of its money on home sales and rentals as opposed to box office sales. They could release it at anytime and do a large ad campaign for the DVD version in future xmases.

I really wish the damn holiday season would wait until December.
