I've been feeling a bit hyped about Witcher 3, which is coming out soon. I promised myself I would wait until reviews came out and would NOT pre order since that sort of thing just needs to die. Anyway, it looks like I can stop worrying about that, because I just got it for free after ordering some new computer parts on Newegg.com. After ordering everything and going to "Checkout" I found Witcher 3 sitting there on my checkout list for $0. Sweet! I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Helloween are touring Australia! That makes for me this year and coming up into 2016, Dragonforce, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Van Canto, Helloween, Death Dealer, and Nightwish.

All these good tours eat into my 70k 2016 fund though!! #FirstWorldMetalheadProblems

Been a great week!
1) 6 month blood work came back and everything is normal!
2) Hair is growing back, even though its kinda wavy at least its there
3) Been brewing like a madman lately. In the last 2 months ive done 4 half batches

4) Andy will be announcing Borknagar and Ne Obliviscaris on Sunday

So far, 2015 has been one of the biggest travel years of my life: Disney cruise in January, Rock Legends Cruise (Alice Cooper, Doobie Brothers, et al) in February, New York City (to celebrate younger daughter's 16th birthday) and Florida in April, and then a 10 day trip to Sedona & the Grand Canyon in June: the grand "finale" of sorts of trips my family & I have taken to some of the major National Parks in the West over the past several years (Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce, Zion, Yosemite, Sequoia, King's Canyon, Glacier). None of us had ever been to the great GC. Wow. Just wow. I am truly grateful to have been able to experience things like this in my life. We spent six days in and around the Grand Canyon with Phantom Ranch being the last place we stayed before overnighting in Flagstaff (fun town!) on our way back to Phoenix to fly home. This was my fb post when we returned from Phantom Ranch.

I'm happy to report that my family & I survived the 9.5 mile hike on the Bright Angel Trail down to Phantom Ranch at the floor of the Grand Canyon, stayed there 2 nights, and hiked the 9.5 miles out yesterday (Wednesday). Hard to describe that experience - I probably would not do it again if I had to do over due to the heat (high of 115 degrees F at the bottom) & elevation change (nearly 5,000 ft) adding to the exhaustion factor - but oh well - we made it!! Let's just say I had some "Game of Thrones" moments (brutal!) - haha. More on that later perhaps. Here is just the first part of the trail - all switchbacks.

The very end of the affectionately named

"Devil's Corkscrew," which one encounters in the second half of the trail down before hitting the Colorado River. This was by far the most frightening to me, due to a combo of factors: at times a cavernous feeling among the very dark rock (i.e. feeling of "will I ever get out of here?), it was very steep in parts, and was when the temperature had far exceeded 100 degrees. The Ranger down at the ranch assured me it would not be near as bad going out, since we would be leaving at 5:30 am when the temp would be 80 and the Corkscrew would be in complete shade that early due to its depth in the Canyon & the sun not hitting it yet. He was correct.

Two aerial views of the Colorado River (on left) and the green patch of trees on right where Phantom Ranch is located. You're so down deep in the Canyon at that point, you can not see any of the rim or get any perspective where you are.

In the distance is the final bridge to cross over the Colorado River to get to the Ranch. When we saw the bridge, we knew we were close.

The hike was brutal at times, but the views of the Canyon going down were amazing. It was a great bonding experience for my family & I and we met some amazing people on the trail and at the Ranch. Another great "result" is that I feel like *anything* that I do now (after that physical & mental challenge) is "easy." And finally, it was a very humbling experience being within that most otherworldly place.

Just finished a great trip around northern Arizona and southern Utah. We stopped at Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, White Pocket, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly and Petrified Forest National Park. We packed a lot into the trip in a short time but it was well worth it. The southwestern US has some great natural landmarks.

I cannot recommend a trip to White Pocket enough. It looks like it belongs on another planet. We booked an overnight tour of the spot because it's not the easiest place to get to and it was well worth it. Didn't have to worry about getting there and back, setting up camp or feeding ourselves.

Just found out Saturnus is coming to Finland for a gig in September. And they're bringing Ereb Altor and Autumnal along. A tiny downside is that the gig clashes with Finnish Death Metal Maniacs Fest's pre-party (Stench of Decay, Krypts...). Oh, well, at least I get to go to the actual fest on Friday and Saturday.
