I think the nonsense will die down when there's more than just nonsense to talk about. I think we can all agree that spamming can get out of hand, but again, nothing has been going on. I've seen it start to die down over the last couple of days now that there are bands and whatnot to talk about for the Barge. If more people join in and contribute to the forum, it'll be far less dominated by a small group of members. I don't want anyone to feel like they won't be included or to be intimidated from joining in the forum or conversations.

And I do think this has been an amazingly civil group considering we really are a VERY diverse group of people (when you really think about it!).

I think we all definitely have different personalities and communication styles and even reasons WHY we're here on this forum in the first place (for example - what do we each enjoy discussing the most?). Rhia, I know you, gnoff, Kate, & Ryan really enjoy the kind of rapid fire, brief, frequent posting back and forth....hey, and that's cool - that's part of your thing and your style (not always of course). Bill mentioned this earlier on this thread that sometimes one has to wade through a page or more of these kinds of posts that to be honest are totally irrelevant to anyone else who's not interested in joining that kind of conversation. As he said, a few threads are really made for that (I'm thinking the totally derailed forum thread, FYI, random rejoicing & bitching threads), but when they start to take over other threads that have more specific topics - I personally find it really distracting and then I feel like...."why bother with this forum at all?" What concerns me is that it might be especially off-putting to a new or potential forum member who sees this and says "why bother?" Sure, we have "free speech" and in theory everyone should speak up when they want - but I don't think it works that way. To my original point, I think that over-derailed threads (especially ones that had a fairly specific topic to begin with) by a very small group of people has the effect of sucking the life out of the forum for a lot of the people. And then, those people are like "why bother?" and they leave. Now I grant you that this might be a slow time to begin with...but I do suspect there's more to it than that.

So, I had considered simply hiding out and posting incessantly :lol:

because 1. it's my favorite thread, and 2. it never gets derailed (probably because there are so few of us who post there regularly). :lol:

But, for better or worse, the cat's out of the bag (or to use a friend's favorite saying is: "the toothpaste is out of the tube and it ain't goin' back in, no way, no how."), and people can think what they wanna think.

like for example the upcoming shows thread has been derailed so i dumped the continuation of that conversation in our B-buds thread. can do that more often if it helps the general order of things. of course, when more people are on, you'll be reminded about how everyone was pretty guilty of derailing all threads all the time.

we're just 4 guilty fuckers here because we are the 4 who post the most right now.
