    Most Ancient Mariner???

    by RazorReb » Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:47 pm

This subject may be even more taboo than some others I have seen here. I apologize if this has already been discussed and I haven't run across it, but was just wondering....who is the MOST ancient mariner on this vessel? I am proud of my age. Damn sure don't act it...I think attending this sucker is somewhat evidence of that :beerhorns:

Got a somewhat late start on the metal scene...my first show was Accept, Keel, Helix, fall of 1985.

So the initial benchmark is set: 44yrs + Nov 27, 1966 ........so who has even more grey than me??

My mom is going on the cruise, she's 60.

She got one of the top suites with her husband, so I can't imagine what they bumped her up to...private in-room session from Guardian?

Another Sagittarian from '66!! I just turned 44 also Reb... I believe Scott (Tom Cruise) has a couple years on us and there's at least 2 or 3 of our fine metal maidens who have us beat as well. I suspect Lal@, Stach and Alex's mother have us all beat but not sure which one rules the roost! We should make a point of getting them and the youngest sea-mosher together for a horn's up photo op :headbanger:
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

Shit, so if there are a nice young girl on board we should always be worrying if her dad's around? ;)

Sounds a bit funny by the way: 45 years young... 23 year old...

Hooray for the 40+ crowd! I am Lesley .... I turned 46 this past October ... been a metalhead since I was 6.

I am coming with my best friend Charlie (not a bf), he is 37. A group of 6 of us were originally going to come but everyone petered out over time due to various reasons (economic, family etc) and him and I were the last ones.

This is so great. I still can't believe this is actually happening. I had to pinch myself before :)

Tyrwoman you are a gal after my own heart as they are one of my favorite bands!
Since you are a fan of TYR I have to tell you about this experience. My friend Jennifer (going on the cruise but not here on the forums) hired TYR to play her 40th b/day party at the Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ back in September. They did a gig at the Prog Festival and swung by NJ on their way back to the Faroe's. It probably was one of the most amazing nights of my life .. there were only 75 people there for a private VIP party.
Here is a pic of Jennifer onstage being serenaded Happy Birthday by Heri.

It's oh so very obvious what the result of this will be...

With the exception of MW and a few others, the younguns will see the goal of the challenge to be a matter of who can drink the most the fastest and will all be asleep in a matter of hours.

Recognizing that the true challenge is to see who can have the most fun, the seasoned vets will sit back, enjoy their drinks, watch the younguns stagger, puke and pass out all over the place as added entertainment, continue drinking at a manageable pace in order to be wide-eyed and ready to feed more drinks to the younguns when they wake up. Wash, rinse, repeat :heavydrink:

Recognizing that the true challenge is to see who can have the most fun, the seasoned vets will sit back, enjoy their drinks, watch the younguns stagger, puke and pass out all over the place as added entertainment, continue drinking at a manageable pace in order to be wide-eyed and ready to feed more drinks to the younguns when they wake up. very well put, Rob! That's pretty much what I meant when I said "how to par-taaaay" :beerwink:

Wow .. now I really can't wait to hang out with you all! I am packing up my drinking horn tonight for sure!!

Ha Lesley - perhaps I've been misunderstood - I love to drink lots of beer (my drink of choice) - but not toooo much to the point where I pass out or otherwise miss something - especially on the cruise! I've always been known for being a first person to the party / last to leave kinda gal! I wanna party with 'ya lady!

Haha that thought never crossed my mind.
Almost every metal show I go to some young guy comes up and says "Dude it is so cool to see an old guy like you at a metal show". I usually say "I've been going to these since way before you were born, it's what I do!".

I agree Tyrwoman. I love lots of beer too... the darker the better ... but there is no way I will drink to a point where I cannot function anymore. Where I can maybe sit back and have some laughs and feel a little fun and fuzzy ... absolutely :)

Music sounds better to and everyone is wonderful!

Ha, Rob! and thanks - but I didn't mean looks-wise! I was thinking a lot more lately about "life's been good to me so far" as a general statement - I am SO grateful for all that I've been able to do in this lifetime - I've experienced far more than the wildest dreams of the 16 year old me pictured below (sorry for the repost from the pic thread).....so, I am more than content at this point.....which reminds me of some posts from back in June between Lal@ and me...(and lol - at that point -there were 22 bands still to be announced!)

    Let's discuss: :heavydrink:
I don't really remember the Rush Show, but there are 2 oder 3 cells in my brain that tells me that Girlschool was the absolutely wrong support.....

I wonder who the other 22 Bands will be. i could see most of them here in Germany, but i think it's more fun on the boat, even it will be a bit stressy to remember the concerts after the cruise. I think there is no time to eat .....
