Swashbuckle are enough Pirate Metal. IMHO

What is Pirate Metal anyway? I don't call this a genre, like I don't call "Viking Metal" a genre.

That's true, I don't think it's a genre. There are a few great metal bands with a . . .er . . . pirate persuasion - and it's awesome. I love Alestorm. Swashbuckle is great - love the admiral's videos on youtube. We NEED Alestorm to commandeer this ship. I think it would be scientifically classified as 'folk metal' - what do you think?

To me there is and always will be only one pirate metal band and that is the legendary RunningWild.
As for Swashbuckle i will be making sure to avoid them.If anybody else feels the same way they're welcome to join me for beers

I'd definitely be up for some Alestorm.
I missed Swashbuckle when they came to Winnipeg, so if there is nothing else that appealing to do while they're on stage, I'll check them out.

I'm an old guy and my tastes in Metal are quite broad, so it will be easier to sum up what I would not like to see on the cruise:

    1) Rap.
    2) Anything like Rap no matter how heavy the band is.
    3) Bands where the singer sounds like he is throwing up with every word.

I don't care much for bands that refuse to put a guitar solo in a song either, but they tend to be included in one of the above. Anything along the lines of Helloween, GammaRay, Blind Guardian, Metal Church etc. is my preference. I like female fronted bands, Warlock and Girlschool would be on the top of that list for me. I also like some progressive, Symphony X and Tad Morose would be cool.

I think TM was the name of the band, not an individual. Did you mean the singer (now in Bloodbound) is difficult to work with or the guitarist? I'm guessing you mean the guitarist as there's been a small army of vocalists run through the ranks. I'd like to have heard them with Joe from Overkill :metalguy:

Yeah i got mixed up haha.
The singers name is Urban Breed i think. He was in Tad Morose.
And he sang for Bloodbound on the first album and then quit thus resulting in them pulling out of the Metal cruise i went on in 06 and he came back then for the 3rd album. They got confirmed for Masters of Rock this year and a few weeks ago he quit Bloodbound again.
At this stage i think i'm never gonna see him perform live

Yes, Urban Breed is indeed his name. Seems he might be a bit problematic to work with based on his track record. Frankly I'm just waiting for the day Pyramaze makes a similar announcement, since he is also their vocalist as well.

It's a shame you never got to see Tad Morose, as they were pretty kick ass the one time I saw them back in 2002 (I think it was). The rest of the band were cool and friendly after they played, but Urban was nowhere to be seen. It gives one the impression that he's generally anti-social, whether it be with so called band mates or fans. I've heard it from others that had seen them in the past that this was also the same, so it wasn't just a one time thing.

I would love to see Bloodbound play this cruise regardless of this, as the guy they got to replace Urban, sounds pretty capable (Patrik Johansson from Dawn Of Silence). Definitely better then the vocalist on the 2nd album, who was half-assed at best.

Bands I would like to see most are

    Nevermore
    Dream Theater
    Megadeth
    Faith no More
    Straight line Stitch
    Fear Factory

    Does anyone think people like

    Steve Vai
    Satriani
    Yngwie Malmsteen
    Devin Townsend

Are even a possibility? Because I would love to see that kind of stuff too.

All 4 definitely have lots of fans. Devin has been talked about in another thread and I'm sure there are many who would like to hear of him being added. The first three fall into that strange category of guitar virtuosos who tend to have their own rare breed of fans, largely composed of other guitarists but also lots of folks who just like that instrumental based style. We haven't seen or heard any mention of this type of artist for the cruise but who knows? Still lots of time to go.

I had the pleasure of seeing all 3 on one of the G3 tours and it was great. Vai definitely stole the show while Yngwie was sort of like a cartoon character or a sad chariacture of the typical metal guitar genius as he had all the chops, the leather pants and was doing all the guitar spins and hair flinging but was also pretty drunk, has put on a fair bit of weight and kept getting annoyed at the sound guy to turn his monitors and such up higher and finally just cranked the head of his Marshall up so much that it was overloading the sound settings and just sounded awful, cutting in and out and feeding back in a way NOT like guitarists hope for. I hadn't seen him since he opened for Dio decades earlier so it was a bit disappointing. Still a guitar genius of course but just a bit embarrassing to watch the spectacle.

    I'll take a little 80's-90's heavy rock;

    Y&T
    King's X
    Lynch Mob

all three are touring so are posibilities

Gotthard (NEVER come to the US!)

Tony MacAlpine or Paul Gilbert for my instrumental fix, or Yngwie for a sideshow...

Oh, maybe Glenn Danzig (haven't seen him since '89-'90), but his shows are getting pretty horrible reviews these days, so maybe not...
Disaster Area: a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the history of the Galaxy, but the loudest noise of any kind at all.

I want more death metal on the list. Preferably some technical dm bands like Dying Fetus, Origin, Decrepit Birth or even Brain Drill. Of the bit more traditional side of dm the Dutch acts Asphyx and Hail of Bullets would be awesome, especially the latter.

Can NOT believe I forgot to add Joe Stump. Reign of Terror just shuffled onto my player and it jogged my memory. as an instrumentalist he would be a MUCH better fit for this cruise as opposed to the aforementioned Vai, Satch. Annnnd apparently I missed that he released a new one on April 17th '09 http://www.joestump.com/index2.htm . I will be acquiring that post haste.

always thought Joe Stump would be what you'd get if you mashed Blackmore and Yngwie together.

oh, for the record, don't try to give Yngwie donuts, EVER... http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=1398 :heavydrink:

Amon Amarth is great on board but when Children of Bodom are comming, that would make my happy! Other names I would like on board are Vader and Immortal.
