Barely cant't think about anything else - 2 days after the cruise I'm still filled up with endorphines.

Awesome music, awesome happy people on every deck. Met so great people there. Such a great venue for a metal festival.

Only thing missing were Edguy and/or Avantasia

Sure would book now for 2012 - hope the date will be announced soon.

Can't wait to dip into that pool again :givebeer:

I think a faster announcement of bands would have helped sales as well. I've been talking to all my friends that didn't go this year, and they say they want to go next year for sure, so there are definetly more people interested.

I'd love to be there next year again. But it all depends on my expenses this year etc.

I spoke to the events co-ordinator for Royal Caribbean.

He said that next one will most likely be on Majesty of the Seas again.

He also said that an idea he has floated (and I LOVE it!!) is that next cruise....sails to a private island, have shows on the Island, then sails back!

    How cool would that be!!??!!

Holy shit that would rule! Can we just send the boat back once we all get on the island?

That would rule and I love it, but the only problem I see is moving all that band shit on and off the boat again. Did you see the freaking crane they were using out on the pool deck to move that stuff? Unless they have a stage already set up on the island and all they have to do is bring guitars but that seems highly unlikely that some private island would have all the proper sound equipment (e.g. big freaking stack of Marshall amps.... I don't think so Tim)

the island idea sounds like fun but doesn't make it any more special for me
(though I could easily do without Cozumel)

waking up this morning I was thinking about my savings book I have from my childhood years
it was supposed to be for something special - and I'd say this something special is cruise no2 and no3

I think, in our minds we've already booked.
Another route would be cool though. Maybe Jamaica if it's not too far. A stop on a private island with concerts on the beach would be the most amazing thing ever. Coco Cay is also owned by Royal Caribbean and it's even closer than Cozumel. Maybe the equipment can be brought there beforehand...

kaluviva wrote:This was my first metal festival ever. I'm thinking in going to MetalCamp 2011 =D I guess once you like festivals, you can't just stop! :headbanger:

I don't know if I should feel sorry for you, but no festival will ever be anything like 70k ToM. So, everything you go to will pale im comparison. It's unfortunate to experience the best thing first... ;)

Bolt_Thrower wrote:The question is whether or not the promoters at least broke even. I know they didn't sell out. Has anybody heard what the profit/loss was?

I got mixed information regarding this matter. The brother of my girlfriend knew someone who knew someone from 70k ( ) and that someone told her that it's gonna be a huge success for Royal Caribbean but not for 70k. Schmier on the other hand was pretty sure that they would make a profit. But since RC made such a huge profit on alcohol alone, maybe they're going to offer 70k better conditions for the next one. And if the statement is true, that booking for 2012 is going to start soon, I think that the ship is/was already chartered no matter the profit.
But looking at the feedback and word-of-mouth the next cruise will most definitely be sold out, so that shouldn't be a problem...

Is this a rhetorical question ??????

I would go even before they announced any of the bands. I asked plenty of people the same thing and before I could even finish the question, they said YES. It was just that damn good.

I know I said this to a bunch of you already, so pardon my repetition, but I ALWAYS build things up in my mind no matter what it is: new CD, movie, trip, roller coaster I want to ride and NOTHING ever matches the pie in the sky expectations I have for it. I then have to readjust my expectations into the normal stratosphere and realize that not everything NEW in life can be the "best of the best" or "the greatest thing since sliced bread".

BUT, with this cruise, I had my typical insanely high hopes and it EXCEEDED those in spades. I'm still kinda in shock that it did that. But talking with everyone online for 8-10 months beforehand was a HUUUUUGE part of that and then meeting and hanging out was the "End Complete" for me (Obituary pun intended).

I don't have any prior festival experience for me to judge this against. But the wife and I were part of the American Coaster Enthusiasts for a few years and we went all over the country riding roller coasters, meeting people, etc. We met alot of cool people and are friends with some of them to this day. But that pales in comparision to this cruise and the future ones.

METAL is a much more bonding experience  :deathmetal:

He said that next one will most likely be on Majesty of the Seas again.

He also said that an idea he has floated (and I LOVE it!!) is that next cruise....sails to a private island, have shows on the Island, then sails back!

    How cool would that be!!??!!

I will definitely be there! I've had friends and people that I've met in Canada in 2009 say that they've seen all my photos and will share a room with me next year! And if it's on Majesty Of The Seas again that would be awesome too!

Not sure that I like the idea of getting off the ship to see shows. One of the major selling points of the cruise is that you are on a boat with the bands and will run into them, will be able to talk to them and hang out with them/eat dinner/get drunk/sing karaoke. Throwing an island into the mix that is bigger than the ship would deplete that to a degree. I like the shows on the boat and the pool deck ROCKED! If the island is used like Cozumel and we dock for 10 hours for excursions, etc it would be great.

You can get a few power metal monkeys to get all weepy & acoustic in a straw hut. This way they don't have to lug much equipment with them. A few pink tutu's, guitars and tissue boxes.

Clearly the lack of Vegemite in your coffee has been severly affecting you.

I'm bored at work and don't want to be here! Four hours and twelve minutes to go. THEN I'M WEARING MY 70000 TONS SHIRT TO THE BLACK METAL FESTIVAL TONIGHT TO CAUSE JEALOUSY! Oh and Karhl will be there. That is, if he makes it there.

Maybe, although I haven't had a cup since then (not really a coffee drinker). Karhl showing up is like Deicide actually going through with their tour plans (don't hold your breathe)

It seems like there are waaaaay too many of us with the ability blow off work far too much lately.
