    Special Activities on Ship

    by asmegin » Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:06 am

I had gone to a cruise last year with my fiancee on the Liberty of the Seas... and they had a bunch of activities as far as sporting events like Dodgeball/Volleyball/and basketball....

Does anyone know if these activities will be active on the ship?

Well I don't know. But this is going to be a metal music festival so expect a lot of partying to be going on.

Maybe type Wacken into a browser and watch some of the videos.

Well to be honest metalheads aren't really sports engaging people.
Main sport we do is drink and headbang

There will be several amenities aboard the ship: there is a basketball court, pool and even a rock climbing wall.

For those of you not so inclined to the above, don't forget about Metal Karaoke!

I'd love it if there was a gym on the ship. My band are playing the Hard Rock Hell Roadtrip in Ibiza and one of the hotels there has a gym. Sorted!

I think perhaps a discussion concerning activities OFF the ship might also be required

hahaha. beer and gravity... yeah. Ive woken up to horribly scratched arms, caused by (im told), my drunk decision to climb a palm tree.

I Imagine everyone on the cruise will be some kind of musician, maybe there could be a few drum or guitar clinics? I might bring a small acoustic, I wanna relax under the stars, and play the bard song on a cold winter night. And then get hammered and pass out in a life raft.

It will be like that time when i did warrior training with the joms vikings at a festival. You had to sign up for it and promise you would be sober for it.Hence why i showed up drunk and the end result was me getting smacked pretty hard on the head with a wooden sword :viking:

If you mix Water drumming, underwater air guitar and screaming, you can almost dub any band in the world.

It's like a low-profit Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

Wow, I just saw that pic. All those rows of ?seats? benches? Mosh pit's gonna be an interesting spectacle. I hope they don't turn the ship around 2 hours into the voyage in fear of the Majesty of the Seas becoming a floating box of wood chips and pillow cushions.

I wonder if there will be a selection of instruments available to the guests or if we do need to bring our own. I assumed I'd bring mine as I thought I read about an open mic stage someplace else and had visions of jamming with some of you, and possibly some of the artists, in a casual setting. We'll definitely have to suss out the finer details of this part of the trip. Maybe start a thread for musicians to chat and come up with some short set list ideas of songs we all know or (for those of us whose repertoire can only hold 2 or 3 songs at a time) would like to prepare to jam on.

Wow, throw an underwater vid cam in the mix and we could come up with some pretty hilarious visuals to mix in with some music from the trip after all's said and done

Saw Exodus and a handful of other bands here in town last spring and, at the last minute, the organizers moved the gig from a place called The Venue (creative eh?) to a place across the way that holds more people called The Orpheum. Here's a pic:

    Image

The shot is from the balcony but the floor is full seating with a Right, a Left and a Center aisle and very little space at the front for moshing or even moving. Well the first few bands (Warbringer was great) dealt with it all okay but when Exodus came on you could tell they were pissed. Especially the vocalist who ain't the happiest of campers on the best of nights it seems. He kept making jokes about us tearing the place apart to make room...

Well, a few songs in, several 'mini-pits' broke out in each aisle and the main one at the front. By the time their set was about halfway done, Rob had begun 'pitting' the pits from one side of the room against the one(s) on the other. A few songs later, he had the crowd split into two groups on either side and push as far back towards each wall as they could go. Then he made the wait... wait for it... wait for it...talk about crowd control! and then, on his go, he had them both rush headlong towards each other and just let loose in a crazy circle pit that I'm sure must have caused many dollars of damage to the first few rows of chairs. Pretty crazy but damn fun and entertaining

I couldn't agree more. One of our best rooms to see any band. It's just not set up for circle pits and many of the most enthusiastic moshers aren't all that focused on acoustic quality.
