I thought it was pretty well done for the most part, even if you didn't really enjoy it you have to admit it was a great idea...

Sorry but for me Heavy metal is not something that movies or documentaries should be made on.

Most Metal documentaries suck, are inaccurate or very one sided. Agreed. But why shouldn't there be Doc's about Metal, there are about anything else, so why not about Metal?

Something tells me the Dutch have a completely different take on KISS than I do... Ace Frehely = Unknown? Or were you talking about the current Ace + Peter imposters?

Back on topic (sort of), has anyone seen Sam Dunn's recent Rush documentary release? A guy I was talking with at Melvins told me it kicks major ass... I can't tell you how badly I'm hoping for an announcement that Sam is the guy coming along with us and in charge of filming. I'm sure the resulting film would skyrocket Scott, MW and the Dutch to instant mega-stardom for their shipboard antics and getting pancaked trying to throw Swashbuckle and FF overboard!!

My friend in Texas said "Beyond the Lighted Stage" (Rush doc) was fantastic, I will be ordering the BluRay asap. I got "Global Metal" from the wifey for my B-day (along with Anvil), haven't watched either yet. And I of course, have Flight 666 on Blu (have probably watched it 10 times minimum). Dunn does a great job with his docs, the thought of him showing on the cruise hadn't even crossed my mind, that would severely kick some ass!

:givebeer: and a bit part on the 70,000 tons documentary

I loved the Anvil movie/their story (hilarious, poignant, among other things) so much I had to see them when they were at House of Blues here in January. It was a packed house and a great time - you could see and feel the pure joy in their performance. I think it's really cool that Wacken booked them this year too. They are also going to show the Anvil movie in the moviefield one night!

I don't see how one can't enjoy that movie unless gut level honesty, humility and a victorious underdog just don't fit their definition of cool. Yes, it was a bit of a train wreck at times, but that's what real life's like. I've always been an Anvil fan and felt embarrassed for Lipps and Robb at times while watching it... But I have to applaud them having the guts to be so blatantly real for the cameras and it's hard not to cheer for the impact it's had on their careers.

How can you NOT want this guy to succeed?

Ah, Anvil. I had such mixed reactions after seeing that movie. Those guys can definitely play their instruments, no doubt about it and they have a handful of catchy tunes. Anvil certainly had the right ideas and they obviously knew how them "biz" worked to a degree, but it just seemed like they caught onto stuff a little too late. Their main issue was that their distrobution was poor, the second issue was that their vocals were just awful, and the last big one to me was that they stuck to their guns, which ended up becoming their downfall after their early 80's heyday. They helped set the bar for "heaviness" but never followed up on it, while all these other bands managed to find success by taking Anvils' ideas to the next level. The tried and true "ball-stomping true metal" fell out of favor compared to the speed and extreme imagery of thrash metal and they couldn't compete with the more polished, virtuoso flavour of power metal and even hair metal. They just kind of sat in the middle doing their own thing which wasn't exactly bad, but it simply didn't attract attention.

.. Wow. I'm a nerd. Having this event filmed shall be very exciting!

I actually really dig Lips' vocals...

He's certainly no virtuoso and definitely not for fans of vocalists with that great, strong, pure tone or anything like that. Just from more of a rock the hell out aggression standpoint where I can still make out every word he's singing. Also, I always got a kick out of how shamelessly perverted so many of their lyrics were/are. I still can't help but laugh every time I hear Jackhammer. That guy's got one sick n' twisted mind and has no qualms about putting it on display for all to see

As for sticking to their guns, I agree. This really kept them from attaining the kind of success that so many others did. At the same time, I respect that they stayed true to their own thing and even those who don't like their brand of metal should appreciate that they never 'sold out'. Something that many 'successful' bands get slammed for all the time. ;)

    =) Hey guys!

I think we all saw some of the pro gear that was kicking around the shows, haha. Do we know if any of the recordings from the board or video recordings will be made public at any point?

It was great spending that time on the boat with you guys! Had a total blast <3

I would also like a link if anyone ever comes up with any information on a DVD or whatnot. It would be awesome to get a dvd from that cruise, because i know my pics and videos suck!!!

All the ones with cameras that i talked to was from german tv stations. And they did not know anything about if there was someone "official 70000 tons of metal person" there to film the event to make a dvd.,..

I saw and heard about a few German TV stations (most prominently ZDF, RTL, Sat1 (Focus TV afaik), NDR), but don't know anything about when and where the footage will be shown. But I will keep an eye open.
Talked to Schmier while waiting to disembark and he too thought, that there wasn't any official filming/recording going on, because of Royal Caribbean (they made everything pretty expensive - talk about 30% off of merchandise...).

But I would pay a good price for a DVD with those memorable moments such as "Valhalla".
