Yeah but they may have something in store for Remembrance day, "to honor the brave soldiers that fought on our behalf we give you a bit of Battle Metal: Please welcome TURISAS" could totally happen!

I don't like this. They are internationally giving Canadians a bad name

It's called Veteran's Day here ... but I had to make the Remembrance Day remark for the little joke I made

But, ye know, in salute to the veterans of 70k 2011, an honorable tribute in form of a sweet announcement would be suitable. So, all you vets just need to figure out what band you all have a common wish forof course, that'll have to happen before the end of the day, so good luck

let's see 'em top the Sabbath announcement (that we kinda already figured would be)

still no Andy Onbroad ..... unless he's hiding under guest just to tease us. He could wait until 11:11 pm just to make us think we're not getting an announcement.

not that we really think we're getting an announcement

Are you guys sure it's always Andy that makes the announcements? Allison and Aaron would be able to update the first page as well.

So its currently about 5pm Friday afternoon in Vancouver. If we don't get any announcement within the next 2 hours we can kiss goodbye to any announcement chance for another couple of days.

Which would put us down to 70 days until we sail, 12 bands left to announce.

All joking aside, I am actually starting to worry that "something is up". What, I don't know - hopefully something GOOD.

But yeah to organise a festival like this and have a third of the lineup unknown practically two months out makes no sense at all.

Are they having difficulty filling the remaining spots? Has someone pulled out that the are scrambling to replace? Is there some sort of logistical issue (insurance? Negotiation drams with Royal Carribbean?"

The fact that so many of us are complaining. And NO ONE from UMC is saying ANYTHING .... its just plain ridiculous.

don't forget though, they could do another week of announcements and be right back on track... it wouldn't be hard for them to make us forget there was a delay

Even though we had more communication last year, I remember going through this same ol' shit. We were all speculating, and it turned out fine. I'm not worried, but I'd like to see some of those promo videos that some bands did last year.

I think it's actually the opposite of what all of you are saying -- I think there are TOO MANY bands that want in on this thing and they're figuring out how to narrow it down. I don't think they would've set up Barge to Hell if that wasn't the case, right?

Probably just figuring out which bands they want for this one and which bands for Barge and negotiating with the bands between the two.

Probably just figuring out which bands they want for this one and which bands for Barge and negotiating with the bands between the two.

    Sounds logic to me.

I really think an announcement is overdue now. Maybe they are again preparing some announcements in a row, like they did when they announced Overkill and some other bands within a few days. Wouldn't mind that.

Unrelated to bitching of lack of announcements, Riot was going to be an "eat/drink/socialize/go to other show" kind of band for me. But after listening to some of their stuff will definitely have to check out one of their sets. Anything Riot fans would recommend?

Back to our regularly scheduled programming:

    Image

Anyone else want to riot in Vancouver outside the UMC offices??

70 DAYS UNTIL WE BROAD and how appropriate would an announcement be to tie in with that? And what do we get. 12 god damn bands left with no hint of life or what's to come.

    Bad form UMC. Bad form.

    Indeed :(

I notice people over on Facebook are even raising the spectre of the dreaded "c" word ...."cancelled".

I mean, people bitched and moaned (myself included!!) so much last year whenever it went more than about 2 weeks without an announcement.

Imagine for a moment if you will, what it would have been like if this had been the situation last time around - 70 days to go, a third of the lineup left to announce, no announcement in over four weeks, and Andy MIA for that amount of time too.

Honestly? I would have been looking at getting my money back.

The only thing saving 'em this time around is the fact that it was a success this year.

Maybe someone should start a non-english thread to see if they're still alive. The spambot threads are still around.

I've never complained or got worried, but a month without an announcement is quite an unfortunate move...(or no-move, so to speak)

I contacted UMC by mail because I was freaking out on the "C" word... they answered

"We do have some more bands already confirmed and will announce them over the next weeks. Just hang in there, we have some big surprises waiting for you..."

I chose to believe them, so I calmed down now
