Every time I visit the main page I can't help but smile, throw the horns and can't believe how fortunate we were to be a part of the first all metal cruise!

    Anyone else feel the same?

Definitely! We will always be Veteran cruisers!

However I do feel that no other bands are going to be quite as humble as those on the first cruise, nor make a speech at dinner like Burton did. :headbanger:

I hate it that I had to miss that.
But I did had a couple of nice encounters with him onbroad. :)
I wouldn't mind if Fear Factory is onbroad again...Dino with his mask was EPIC!

It flashbacks me almost every day...I was afraid this "vibe" would disappear after a month or 2...but it keeps going on now with the bookingsconfirmed and seeing that most of us are on deck 2...family until the end!

We were talking that this seems to be becoming something that we will HAVE to attend every year... if for no other reason besides getting the promo presale code for the next year.

I was amazed at how differently the booking went for the 2012 cruise vs. the Maiden Voyage. I remember for a while there, we were wondering if enough people would book, if they'd get enough bands, or if they'd be giving some disappointed metal fans their money back after so many months. I also remember us wondering if the cabin we chose would be "enough".. haha! Not the concern this year! Now I worry that "new recruits" very well may have a tough time getting onbroad, especially after a couple more years. And they'll definitely have a hard time getting the joy of cramming into the 4 person cabin with metal friends found from the ship. :beerwink:

I'm so glad we were on the first one. I'm sure subsequent 70000 Tons will be amazing as well, but yeah. Definitely something to say for being the "risk takers" who put their household funds on the line for the first time, saying "This is going to be amazing... are you sure you other friends really aren't going? Really? You'd rather waste your money on another nonmetal leisure trip you take every damned year/designer dog/video games to piss away more life with/whatever?" I get the vibe that pretty much every last friend who chose not to go in 2011 wishes the would've canned the plans they picked and come abroad instead. :) No regrets here!!

Absolutely! We will always be the cruisers on the maiden voyage of 70000 Tons of Metal. It'll be interesting to see how the festival changes in subsequent years. This first one will always be the most special.

you lose your virginity just one time - but i hope the second time will be as good as .....

btw: i never been a "veteran" before - it sounds so "old" in german tradition.....

we had our first pre-party yesterday. Sitting in our Tiki Bar in the Garden, hearing Music from the first 7 bands (Uli didn't know any band except Stravovarius) , drinking 3 bottles of red wine - there will be some more of these nights before the cruise starts....

It was truly a privilege to be onbroad for the maiden voyage!!

Reminiscing now.... I first heard about 70K TOM in April of last year but didn't think much of it. Then over Memorial Day weekend I happened upon the website and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was out with my friend Charlie (you all remember him LOL) that Saturday night and I told him about it. He seriously thought I was insane (remember this is a man who does have a PC, has a cell phone from 2004, does not know how to send a text message and never leaves Long Island) I kept adding band names and details as we were sitting there to show it was true and he just says ... "I'm there... I don't care....I'm there." We shook hands and committed to it.

We also got 4 other friends involved but while waiting for everyone to get money up over the summer, I watched the cabins go one by one by one price wise and people in our group started dropping off all with different excuses etc. Finally Charlie and I said "Fuck it" and we broke off on our own. I then went and reserved either a $1333 cabin or a $1533 with a request in to please put me on a list if a cheaper one becomes available. Of all things I am doing a follow up call and I am offered a Deck 4 Interior Double for $933/person as those people were moving to a Quad. I jumped on it and we were on our way...... w00t!!

One thing I did learn about the cruise was who a real friend is. Charlie and I committed to going and there was never a step backwards and we both had the best time of our lives that week. When word of the 2012 came up there was no doubt who was rooming together LOL ... along with our good friend James and my daughter Alex. I have been stressed recently due to potential layoffs at my job (I do have interviews lined up but who likes working in this environment everyday ... I gotta get out of here!!!) and when the pre-sale happened Charlie told me immediately not to worry about my part of the down payment as he had the whole thing covered and the next payment to if necessary. I took care of the confirmation and I was happy to call him Saturday and tell him we were all firmed up for Cabin 2515. :viking:

Seriously no matter how many 70K Tons of Metals are in the future .... I could not imagine going with out my best friend in the world.

Sorry it's so long ... but I just started typing away .. :shred: Can't wait to next January!!!

And yes.. the mask was awesome... have it on my home vid for 70K.

Lifetime pass? I like it! Hell, I'd even settle for frequent cruiser miles. Take 5 70k cruises, your next is free. Trade in points for a cabin upgrade or free merch, all kinds of cool stuff :P
