70,000 Tons of THRASH METAL Onbroad '12

    by vikingbitch » Fri May 27, 2011 12:39 pm

Okay I know this has been discussed in other threads to an extent, and I say this with as much forum love as I can, but damn you all I'm making this anyways with the complete saturation of your bloody wishlist threads and I want to hear none of it

Was discussing with Joey yesterday how UMC are going to possibly contend with the power house thrash line up that they had onbroad last year. Same goes for Folk metal genre but I'll leave that thread into someone else's hands. Who will be onbroad, who might be etc to make it comparable on the Thrash front.

Here are ones that I think will probably be booked:

    - Kreator
    - Anthrax
    - Sepultura (cover band)
    - Tankard
    - Municipal Waste
    - Warbringer
    - Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy (depending if Sepultura cover band are playing)
    - Artillery
    - Annihilator

These are ones that I think could be potentially looked at or pursued but probably just small chance they'll be onbroad:

    - Violator
    - Mercyful Fate
    - Coroner ***NOW BOOKED!!
    - Evile
    - Overkill
    - Heathen
    - Lazarus AD
    - Havok
    - Sabbat
More that you would add to this list? Ones to rule out? And I'm not the best with classifying genres (I like what I like damn it  ) so bear with me :shred:

Overkill & Kreator would be excellent
I'd like to see Dark Angel again but I think that has a zero chance of happening.
Exhorder, Flotsam & Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Laaz Rockit, Nuclear Assault, Anacrusis, Coroner & Onslaught have reformed at different times so maybe... :beerhorns:

I have to say, I'm incredibly bummed by the line up so far but, if these 3 are added I would be as happy as a pig in shit and wouldn't bat an eye if the other 37 were all playing hurdy-gurdies through their Marshalls.

Oh and Marlo, you have to scratch ZH from your list as ruled out. As mentioned before, it cannot and will not happen as long as we sail out of the USA

I think they're as folk as it gets. You know, not in the shitty way all bands seem to be nowadays (fuck bagpipes and tin whistles and what else these crappy bands use). Amorphis' lyrics are 100% folk (mainly from our beloved Kalevala), the melodies are 100% Finnish folk - what more do you need?
Ah, I see, they're quite good (from The Karelian Isthmus to Elegy era at least), so they can't be folk metal. On that I can agree.

Savatage is thrash?? I know they've jumped around with their styles depending on the album but I didn't know they had a thrash one - which album? Would be cool to listen to it, I've been meaning to get more into Savatage.

AHHHHHHHCKKKK I WANT KREATOR ONBROAD SO EFFING BAD!!! Please UMC??? Pleeeeeeaseee

Oh and I would say that Amorphis have some folk influences to their music but not folk for the most part. I hear melodic death metal much more than folk in their music but its hard to push them too far at the end of the spectrum either. Can we settle on their just a great band and a great addition? Especially with a beer in hand, thousands of stars above and ocean around us on the pool deck? (ahhhck can't wait!!)

Just for you my Albertan friend, here's the first Savatage song I ever heard.

It and the album it came from (The Dungeons Are Calling) aren't exactly super heavy/speed thrash but I think it's the era that earned them some connection to the thrash community. This and others like Hall of the Mountain King, Fight For The Rock, Sirens are much more raw than what came after Gutter Ballet et al.

Definitely my all time fave of theirs!

    Enjoy :headbanger:

I'd like to see Sacred Reich, Overkill would be good too..... other thrash that would be good would be sepultura or megadeth... can you imagine Dave Mustaine on the boat? I don't even know what to think about that, how it (he) would work out. Anyways, still... much respect to him.

Haha yeah, that's why I put "new" in quotes. To most elitist metalheads: any thrash band that started after 1990 is "new". But yeah, they are fucking fantastic and have a ton of albums filled with circle pit inviting thrash.

I'd like to see Deceased. :D And like there recent cover, reminds me of old horror comics.

Anthrax would be alright if Bush was singing but that band seems a mess as of late. Slayer of course, but think they are a bit too big.

Don't turn into the Canadian Sulk Machine on us ;)

Obviously My Dying Bride and Coroner are better than every other band (FOR ME) on last years cruise. Wanted to see Moosorrow after hearing the new album and that came true. So I'm as happy as a pig in slop right now. Anika might have to borrow Laura's "drool bib" for them

Besides Obituary, there wasn't any band last year that was "Upper Echelon" for me. I liked alot of them, but none of them were "bucket list" caliber. And as amazing and uber awesome the whole thing was, this is why I felt 2012 could only be better for me: greater chance of personal wish list bands.

And since you are a doom freak, give MDB a spin, probably your cup of tea. :beerwink:

After seeing some not so Thrash suggestions from some of you, here's some from me (some of which have been previously mentioned here):

    Overkill
    Annihilator
    Kreator
    Heathen
    Artillery
    Evile
    Battalion
    Holy Moses
    Evildead
    Speed/Kill/Hate
    Gama Bomb
    Guillotine
    Laaz Rockit
    Lich King
    M.O.D.
    Nuclear Assault
    Onslaught
    Powermad
    Sacrifice
    Thrash Or Die
    Suicidal Angels
    Tankard

And just to be clear, Mercyful Fate, Savatage, Ex Deo, Armored Saint and Gojira are not Thrash bands, and never have been. The chances of either Fate or Savatage playing are zero. King Diamond? Maybe, and that's really stretching it.

Anthrax with Bush was a clusterfuck for years, but Anthrax with Joey back, not so much. Bush was never the right guy for that band.

Flotsam And Jetsam have never broken up, so they wouldn't have the need to reform (I would like to see them play the cruise)

Those that assumed the likeliness of Dark Angel playing to be zero? You are correct. After the story that Gene told me several years ago, that's pretty much where it stands.

Dew Scented have existed since 1992, not 2003

Does Carnal Forge even exist anymore?
