In Australia it's illegal for people to smoke in doors and in enclosed public areas so it was a big shock to me.

I say ban all smoking inside!

In most of Europe it's banned as well, but the extent to which it is adhered to differs tremendously. In the Netherlands there are hardly sanctions, so smoking in bars is still very common. I once saw someone lighting a cigarette in Wembley Arena though and he was thrown out instantly by the security.

In the US it depends on the state (and sometimes by city?). In New Hampshire, smoking inside bars is banned.

In Minnesota, it was our Clean Indoor Act that stopped smoking inside of all buildings and even the grounds of certain properties. It was not done overnight. They worked it in in phases but it began with a lawsuit from flight attendants on airplanes and now it is even tied to employers health care benefit packages that are offered to employees. Remember the Tobacco lawsuit and ALL of the MONEY that they settled to the states of health related illnesses caused by smoking. :bitch:

OUTSIDE being not near any doorways of course ;)

I'm not a believer that smoking should ever be allowed indoors, unless it's your own home. Why should workers be exposed to that crap ?

Even that sucked. I was in the casino for half an hour on the first day (and lost quite a lot...) but didn't go back because people started using it as a smoking lounge instead (well and because of the full schedule).

So was this a battle we still wanted to fight?

I'm still onbroad with no smoking in the Spectrum and the Boleros at the very least.

Boleros has 2 doors leading outside on either side so I smoked outside almost exclusively during karaoke. :smoking:

I would very much like it if there is no smoking in the different venues since my wife has asthma and can't be where there is smoking going on.

As a non smoker I have absolutely no problem with the ships rules but have zero respect for the people that break them and can't use an ashtray. Why put your cigarette out on the astroturf when even an empty beer bottle can be used as a makeshift ashtray. Pure lazyness.

H folks, I follow this discussion with interrest.
in NRW, Düsseldorf where I live, you can smoke in all pubs.
in restaurants, public buildings and transportation systems smoking is permitted.Duesseldorf has the largest collection of restaurants and pubs (its called the longest bar in the world) in a small area called "oldtown". this happens only until the new Law is released May 2013.
at this time the law is different from state to State. we have tourists from other states visit us for the weekend and they are happy about this, because for example in Bavaria you are not allowed to smoke in pubs.
I like to smoke when I drink beer, and stop when I went home. we accept restrictions and understand that we are not longer allowed to smoke during concerts in Germany.

last year even I found the air in the bolero sometimes very bad. maybe its possible to find a compromise who makes all happy and gives us together a good time. I believe this should be the intention of this journey.

I believe, however, that the Europeans are more heavy smokers than our American friends.

I think we all should give respect to the wishes of all guests, perhaps there is a compromise, less smoking inside, for smoking you can go to outside,
in return non smokers accept the smoking around the pool deck without restrictions.

it is only a suggestion. :viking: :gulp:

Good points Angie, I too like to smoke when I have a beer but sometimes when you first walk into the Spectrum the smell of the stale smoke is almost too much to handle for even me. There is a thing called 3rd hand smoke and that is the smoke that is in peoples clothes, the chairs and carpet and all that.

It's funny because smoking is allowed in Bolero's and I never really noticed it smelling smoky in there.....

Agreed. There's really no excuse whatsoever for being unable to put out a cigarette where you're supposed to. Respect the fucking ship.

agree 100 %. something needs to be done. security needs to crack down on it , if one of us metalheads kindly said "you can't smoke in here", the person smoking 95 % of the time would tell you to "fuck off". I don't know why people cannot respect the boat. Jeff Loomis got in trouble at the Schooner bar for lighting up in 2011 and he caused a scene. He likes to cause scenes when drunk.
