Who has booked hotel and flights for Barge?

by KK Cruiser » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:19 pm

    Hi,

As extreme metal fans, my wife and I booked our flights and hotel for the Barge To Hell festival. Has anyone else done this?

This year on the 70k cruise, there were several bands that I was not into, however after seeing them live, I became a fan. I am looking forward to this again on the Barge and am approaching it with an open mind.

Looking forward to joining you on the barge.

I looked at flight schedules and prices Chicago-Miami yesterday to get an idea (under $300 rt right now), but don't plan on booking anything at least for a few months. I will keep an eye on the fares on a regular basis, though. I'm also going to wait to book a hotel for Sunday night (plan on flying home on Friday this time) - planning to do the super-cheap route this time and hope to find 2 or 3 other people to share a room; might also consider that hostel that people stayed at.

I'm focusing my priorities on booking everything for Metalcamp and just ensuring I have a cabin on Barge (which there is no way I am missing, AT ALL).

I'll worry about flights/hotels later for Miami, will definitely be spending much less time in Miami this time around anyways because A) I've come to the conclusion that Miami is an expensive shit hole B) not enough vacation time to do more even if I wanted to.

It was $7.50 to book my flight. Arrive Sunday December 2nd at 7:30pm and Depart Sunday December 9th at 8:25pm.

Booking the Leamington dive hotel for 70 bucks per night.

    :)

I would have to probably have to split a quad cabin to go on BTH. :)

Otherwise I will be at Pre and Post parties and be at the Port to say Bon Voyage to my 70K alums on broad

I won't be booking unless within the first dozen bands announced there are a couple of bands I really want to see.
Just hard to say really. I'd like to go, but it's expensive and even if I have the money for it I feel like 2 years of 70k straight is
    enough for the moment.

Most likely I'll book a cabin for Barge early and sort out the flights and hotels sometime during summer or autumn. Won't have any vacation days left for it, but will manage it somehow.
Next up Metalfest Croatia, then Tuska (or, at least Baconifestivali  ), Brutal Assault and/or Metalcamp... Might do Hammerfest and Steelfest in Finland too. Oh, and I still have to finish the balconies and lawns and stuff at my house in Central Finland; the only question is, when?

Just looked at flights again for departing Sun and returning Friday - currently $275 rt on American Airlines - still going to wait a bit till I book though since they are non-refundable/non-transferable

so...just for budgeting purposes - here's what this trip will cost me if I get in one of the cheapest quads:
    cabin $666
    fees $289
    air $275
Sunday night hotel, dinner, & drinks @ pre-party $100 estimate
spending on ship and Nassau $250 (estimate based on last 70K 2011 & 2012)
cabs to and from airport $30 (estimate since don't know what hotel I'll be at)
    Grand Total $1,610

not bad....my issue now is just making sure I've got enough time off left at that point....although I figured since I can work on that Saturday after the cruise - I'd only need to take 4 days of vacation.

Let's do it! :beerhorns: :trashdrink:

haha - I just hit shuffle on my iMac iTunes, and the first up out of around 10,000 songs is...
Alestorm: Keelhauled  (I think that was the good omen I needed to seal the deal  )

Fly into Ft. Lauderdale if you can. My girlfriend and I did that for 70k Tons coming in from NYC. It saved us $400 off our airfare, hotel was like $80, and a private shuttle took us to the port for $65. Miami is an overpriced shitbox. A humid shitbox at that.

I'll worry about flights/hotels later for Miami, will definitely be spending much less time in Miami this time around anyways because A) I've come to the conclusion that Miami is an expensive shit hole B) not enough vacation time to do more even if I wanted to.

Yup. Ft. Lauderdale works great. FYI, take a shared van/shuttle next time. It's less than $25 a person.
I should get around to updating my signature

Just keep in mind that it will take over an hour with all the stops
