The Unholy Trinity: Wouldn't be a dream ?

    by jodionline » Fri May 10, 2013 7:28 am

The most significant pioneer of gothic doom metal together on "our" ship:

    Paradise Lost
    My Dying Bride
    Anathema

A dream would come true for me. Unfortunately, I missed the big anniversary concert in 2008, as Paradise Lost celebrated the 20th anniversary ..

In the late 80's and early 90's there was something special in the air in the UK and those three bands were born and provided us with sounds that were later categorized as Doom Gothic etc. metal. Now they have taken different approaches to music, defining new styles and survived all those years and remained on the top of popularity among the lovers of darker sound of metal music.

    Pleassssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee try it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'd be all for that.
I am sure the ship would sell out quickly if they were all announced at once.

    Perhaps I am wrong.
Maybe putting the bands in the tropics is too off-putting.

I know them; I dislike them. Far too dull for my tastes, though I'm sure they did something novel at the time.

My Dying Bride were outstanding on last year's cruise. I would love to see them again.

Haven't listened to any Paradise Lost or Anathema but I'd happily catch a set from each to check them out.

I enjoy Anathema a lot, but I am not sure I could so far to call them amazing live. It has been maybe a decade since I've seen them, but to me they are like Opeth. Very good on record, sound just like that live, just not much of a show live. If that makes any sense. I probably like PL the least of the three, but enjoy them live more than Anathema. MDB, I have not had the pleasure to see.

I've seen all three live and loved both My Dying Bride and Anathema live. I've seen Anathema 3 times in Mexico City 06, 09 and 11 and was blown away each time. Maybe they've gotten better live or you saw them on an off night? PL I liked live, too, but not nearly as much.

That could be. After trying to dig back to where it was I saw them, it was at a Milwaukee Metalfest. After 2000, as I missed them that year, but I think around 2002 or something. It seems like they played that show a lot. In any event. I'd give watch them all twice on the boat if possible.

I'd say Anathema works way better in a (smaller) indoor venue than on a festival; the show I've been to (also about a decade ago :) ) was good - but the atmosphere and the beer helped quite a bit ;)

I lost all interest in Anathema after Judgement. All albums until that one (Judgement included) are great.
My Dying Bride would be awesome, even if I'll catch them at Metaldays already.
    Paradise Lost is meh nowadays.

I saw Anathema 3 times last year, 2 times in 2011 and earlier few times. Every time I was very impressed. For me they are the best live band I've seen so far. It seems that they have always fun to play gigs.

The band is in my opinion very expressive and they are passionate musicians. They need no show or similar, because they know how to play their instruments and use their voices. But ok, now they don't play metal, it is something between, it's their own style.

I don't think Anathema would fit nor go on this cruise. My Dying Bride / Paradise Lost were huge reasons why I went on the cruises I went on and expect them to be repeats even though their cruise shows are mostly half empty.

I think you're right what concerns anathema. So sad as I find it.

But ok, I'll still have plenty of chances to see them in Germany in the future. And the cruise will still be awesome.

I could see them on the boat. True they aren't metal anymore, but they appeal to many metal fans and each 70K cruise has had someone who isn't metal. Also, they are very fan friendly (hell, I spoke to one of them on the phone once  ). Andy told me that they aren't ruled out because they at least were metal at some point in time.

Only time will tell, I guess.

You pick one of Anathema's slowest songs as an example? And anyways, like I said Andy told me they aren't ruled out due to being metal before :P

As for the non metal acts on previous cruises: Uli Jon Roth (2011), Pretty Maids (2012) and Gotthard (2013)

Perhaps the following one shows the magic of an Anathema concert. It was 2010 in Munich. As every concert the last song is Fragile Dreams, performed with Long Distance Calling, Petter Carlsen and some fans:

I love Anathema, I'm not sure it would fit in the cruise theme, but we already had bands who didn't so why not this amazing band? They were metal at some point in their career.

I don't think Anathema is a dream. I just saw today that they're coming through Portland, OR in September. It's not too far fetched that they'll play the cruise.
