For everyone in doubt and thinking scam

    by R8R55 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 2:23 pm

For everyone in doubt and thinking this is a scam.
    Dear Mr. Ritchie:

    Thank you for your email.

Rest assured, the Majesty of the Seas has been chartered by Ultimate Music Cruises on January 24th, 2010 for the "7000 Tons of Metal" event. Please contact them at 1-888-705-8667 for further assistance.

Mr. Ritchie, thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.

    Sincerely,

    Helen Urban
    Customer Service Representative

Now get a damn cabin and quit whining ( BTY now for waiting so long you have to get a pricier cabin, but look at it this way you'll have a better view.) :beerhorns:

R8R55: I think there is more doubt circulating around about the promoters pulling through and whether the bookings are solid, not if company has actually booked the boat for use.

This is due to several factors (though many have been rectified, I'm just trying to look at this objectively) such as slow announcement of bands, the sodom North American tour incident (involving some people that are also involved with the cruise), and payment problems.

I'm remaining optimistic about this, as I would very much like to go. I have my own minor speculations that I'll keep to myself. If this ends up not happening I'll be disappointed, but at the same time, I understand that the logistics of putting together something of this magnitude are mind-blowing.

    What Jake said above.

The boat will sail most likely but there is not any guarantee that the promoters or whatever can manage to get the european bands and their crew over here via air flights. The bands have to get over here and get paid, right?

    Oh ok.

My friend who lives here in Seattle is a promoter and has had several festivals in Seattle and we were talking about the cruise and he was like tell me a band name and I will tell you how much they would want to be paid for something like that. And it was 5,000 to 20,000 dollars (headliners 20,000)

I wonder if they would have to subtract a bit (or a lot) because of the "free cruise" aspect, or was that price range taking that into account?

No it was how much they would be paid, the cruise and rooms/meals are comped or included

Not sure if that would be including the european bands airfare to the states or not.

So, assuming an average of about $12K times 40 bands, that's $480K. 2000 tickets at about $1000 average is $2 million. So about 25% to band booking fees... Sounds reasonable to me, but then again I know SHIT about booking/promoting. I would think that the promoters (Andy et. al.) should at least have the hope of a fat pay day at the end of this because, as Jacob said, this has to be an unbelievable LOGISTICAL nightmare... Hat's off to 'em if they pull it off! :viking: :viking: :viking:

Hell I would be happy with 40 tribute bands on the damned cruise!

Like my friend Brad Hull (ex Forced Entry guitarist) is in "Blistered Earth" a fairly new Metallica tribute band and they are REALLY GOOD

OF course this is the ULTIMATE cruise of a life time with our promised 40 bands....but considering I have never been on a cruise before...I would still be happy as a pig in shit to be on a cruise with all the friends I have (virtually) met here on the Forum...bands or no bands....we would still have the biggest METALHEAD cruise EVER! even if we sat around with Noodle Jake on acoustics ...not to mention every other musically talented people amongst us!.....BRING IT!!....I refuse to let anyone poop on my party! :shred:

And it was 5,000 to 20,000 dollars (headliners 20,000)

Dunno what bands you asked him about but i know if we are talking about the bands already booked those figures are a bit off ;)
Also contracts are done up in differernt ways.It depends what ways the bands do things. Some cover their own flights and acomdation etc and just take a large sum for te gig.Otherstake less for the gig but get the free accomdation flights etc.

I was told by ONE European band its a flat fee and they pay their own flights. Plus visa if they need or to renew.

i admit that this concern crossed my mind several times aswell just because its such a huge project to pull off, and now with bands slowing down and payment problems it was hittin more and more, but now i gotta say that after joinin forum and seein what kind of crazy demented metalheads are goin i can say for sure that its going to be a fuckin hell of a cruise heh drink one for the project and drink many more once we are there! :givebeer:

Disaster Area wrote:So, assuming an average of about $12K times 40 bands, that's $480K.

I don't think it's not THAT a nightmare. being a freight forwarder I can understand that it won't be easy. but it just takes time.
actually I envy, yes i said envy, the PIC for this job! how cool is it to arrange all this shit get brought from all over the world to miami... to get the right customs docs etc.

    however, BOT:
I don't thinks it's a scam. why else would amon amarth, finntroll, epica (just 3 random bands) have mentioned this cruise on their sites?
if it was a scam it would be bad publicity for them as well

I am long time close friends with the members of FORBIDDEN....and they too have posted the cruise on their site....I would not have heard anything about it if they didnt call me up and tell me "You have to book yourself on this cruise we are jamming on" so thats why I am even going in the first place...soo No ....its definatley NOT a scam....I highly doubt they would actually "book" the bands if it were just to run a scam...I havent even looked at the FB page.....whoever the "douchebag" is that is telling people that is just pissed couse they can't go...he hee.....aaaaand thats too bad, because I want to put his/her name in the " who do you want to through overboard" thread :headbanger:
