Who are you most excited for?

    by Jotunheimr » Thu Apr 10, 2014 7:01 pm

Of all the bands that have been announced, which one are you the most excited to see? For me it's Ensiferum because last time I saw them (at Paganfest 2013) they put on an amazing show but I only caught half of it because I was having beers with Heidevolk :chug: and I'm so stoked to see them again. Equilibrium is my second choice because I've been listening to them for so long and have been waiting a long time for a chance to see them.

Blind Guardian because I've never see them live. I've never seen Equilibrium either, and they would be my first choice if half the band did not just ran away :(
I'm very excited for Arch Enemy too. I've seen them a couple years agon, but now their new singer is from my home town.

Annihilator and Threshold. Saw Threshold last year at the Rock Hard Festival and it was a blast. Also looking forward to Arch Enemy with the new singer.

I'm mostly excited for Apocalyptica. Never really listened to their music, but I've seen some on YouTube and they look really fun live.

They haven't been announced yet, but an Exciter reunion is getting me more excited than anything. Seems like they have to be on the boat! :shred:

To answer your question honstly though, I might have to go with Xentrix because I've never seen them and I'm very surprised to see them on the lineup.

Therion -- because they will PROBABLY never play the States again.*
Equilibrium -- amazingly epic band, have never played North America (or I missed them completely), crafters of what might be the most epic metal song under a half-hour in length ("Mana"). Hope the lineup changes don't affect their live show too much.
Blind Guardian -- always a great show. Great "marquee" band for 70k, too.
Ensiferum -- also a great show. Part of what made that first PaganFest tour so top-to-bottom special!
Apocalyptica -- although I'd prefer it to be just 4 guys with cellos instead of weird guest vocalists and stuff.
    Korpiklaani -- another fun show.
Arch Enemy -- curious to check out their new lead singer. Umm, that didn't come out right. (Ooops, neither did that. )

Most of the rest are "gravy" -- bands that I'll probably check out at least part of their sets, but are not deal-makers or -breakers.
Here's hoping Threshold are more sober than when I saw 'em at the very first ProgPower, in Europe. :belly:

    ---
    * I never thought Therion would EVER play the States...and then Glenn H. booked them for ProgPower USA because I'd been offering a much larger amount than normal to sponsor them, and they booked their first U.S. tour around that appearance. And the tour was a disaster. Christofer J. told me later they'd NEVER be back unless something amazing happened...and then a miracle occurred and Glenn booked them again at PPUSA for a one-off, again with me as a sponsor. :headbanger:
So I wouldn't say Therion will NEVER play the States again, but it would take another miracle.

Blind Guardian, Ensiferum, Equilibrium, Korpiklaani and Therion are all bands that I've been in love with for years but have never seen any of them. That's my top tier.

I've seen Origin twice but I have yet to see them with Jason Keyser on vocals (saw him perform with Skinless in 2008, amazing stage presence).

I'm also interested in seeing Arch Enemy perform with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals.

Yep, the first tour did poorly (except for a few larger markets and PPUSA) because Therion played, like, 30 or 40 cities.
I remember getting a sad text message from PPUSA's Glenn H.: "Right NOW Therion is playing in Boise, Idaho in front of 30 people."
The second tour had fewer cities and did better, but not well enough, prompting Christofer's "never, unless something amazing happens" email to me. Then 4 years later came the PPUSA one-off, and then (not coincidentally) the 70k appearance a few months later, since after all, their work-visas were still good.

Honestly a lot of the bands announced so far, are bands that I used to love but haven't kept up with. It'll still be great to see them, however, I'm most excited for whatever crazy Black Metal band gets announced at a later date.

Blind Guardian, Annihilator, and if Heathen guarantees they'll play the whole "Victims of Deception" album, well then them!

I've heard too many stories about shows headlined by larger bands with turn-outs like that. That was like Paganfest last year in Reno, the place filled up when Ensiferum started but I was the only one watching the other bands. Heidevolk and Tyr were especially surprised that someone in a small town knew their songs :D

I'm worried,, curious, and excited about seeing AE live with Alissa. I really hope she proves me wrong, and brings it live.

I'm also really excited about a Jeff Waters guitar clinic (if there will be one) as he is one of my bigger influences as a guitarist, and the All-Star jam would be pretty badass too.

FYI, at a Jeff Waters guitar clinic, you don't learn anything about playing guitar. You do, however, learn a LOT about how fucking funny he can be when not shredding and about how badly the music industry screwed Annihilator out of the exposure and success he feels they deserved :P

Very entertaining but not much focus on guitar technique unless you really make a point of emphatically stating a guitar related question that can be answered between lines of amateur Canadian comedy

I never heard of the 2007 tour. I was told by a buddy of mine whom is a major Therion fan that they only toured the states in 2005 and they would never come again. Didn't know they played prog power in 2011. Maybe they're just done with 'touring' the states, but are fine with one off fest shows.
