At least, if it's slow you won't end up like this guy...

I wouldn't put money on it, but that's a pretty safe bet.
I've seen Scythia mentioned also and that'd be cool. They were quite good when they played here in Atlanta.

I realize that...but why the speculation for Candlemass?

Because they were leaked in an advertisement a few months ago, and they were shown as officially confirmed.
General Zod wrote:So with 4 bands to go to hit 60, and three of those spots likely to be taken by crippers with the next announcement, I'm guessing we're not getting Amon Amarth, Overkill, Candlemass and Grand Magus.

Yeah, or we're only getting one of those, or we're getting none of those. Hey Statsman, what has been the last announcement each year? Has it been spicy, or underwhelming, or a mix?
crazemidgt wrote:I had to scroll through the forums to find it. Psycroptic was also one of the leaked bands which was eventually announced. Candlemass has to be the last band announced, if this ad is correct.

metalmaciejmetal wrote:These are probably more obscure than last years unknown bands. Bless their hearts but, how did these bands get booked? I was puzzled as to why only 1 of the 3 bands is listed on metal archives. I try to stay up to date on underground and upcoming Canadian metal but Touch the sun is a mystery to me. Not that I have an issue with these bands being booked, I'm just curious what they did to be selected.

Was already looking at this...
2016 - Diamond Head
2015 - Wintersun
2014 - Terrorizer
2013 - Cryptopsy
2012 - Combined announcement of Candlemass, Diamond Plate, and Megora
I would say Wintersun is the only 'holy shit!' announcement they have finished with...

I would kind of compare these to the Dia de los Muertos, Distillator, and Koyi K Utho announcements from last year. I think most had never heard of those at all... and to be fair, we were all just remarking at how it has been a lot bigger names so far in the last 20 bands. We were due to get some really small names.

How can having Candlemass on board be "underwhelming"??

Because a lot of metalheads these days are in this bubble with no perspective about anything they don't already know
