Yeah Zak definitely rules Archon Angel out.cegr80 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 3:41 pm Let's set up the rules for the nominees:
1. The band must have never played on the boat before
2. The band must have less than 10,000 listeners on last.fm
3. The band must not have "famous" members (from other well-known bands, for instance)
Given the rules mentioned above, I believe we don't have our first Cripper band nominee just yet. Archon Angel could be included BUT Zak Stevens is "kinda famous"
We were worried that the last few announcements were gonna be a rack of crippers and nobodies, so I gotta say that I'm pretty happy with this outcome. I suspect we'll have a few crips to come, that said.cowboy71 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 12:09 pm At this rate we may have to modify the requirements for the Cripper award this year, or just not worry about it!
With 9 bands to go, still none that qualify.
Sortilege - only 7,000 last.fm listeners, haven't been on before, no famous members. But a cult band that formed 40 years ago isn't in the 'spirit' of the Cripper award.
Æther Realm - 11,200 listeners. Given the lack of contenders, maybe they are "near enough"?
Once Human - 12,300 listeners. Lauren kinda famous as she sang with Kamelot, and I believe one of the other band members used to be in Machine Head so maybe not....
I can't say I'm unhappy with the lack of Cripper bands this year. We were all expecting a raft of relatively unknown U.S.-based bands to be announced in these closing weeks, and while we've gotten a lot of U.S. bands, they -- surprisingly -- haven't been unknowns.cowboy71 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2020 12:09 pm At this rate we may have to modify the requirements for the Cripper award this year, or just not worry about it!

You could be right; maybe we'll need to suspend the award for this year.
Yup. I have the feeling that the next three bands will all be candidates too. We'll see.
With five candidates, I think we can all agree with Nathan Explosion's "new, improved" catch-phrase:

I also agree , NO RAZA were very good , would like to see them nominated for a cripper , if that is possible .
The first year ‘Cripper’, a band no one had heard of, came on the cruise and crushed it. So every year when unknown bands are booked, one of them will be declared that years ‘Cripper’ band.metalforever wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 7:10 amI also agree , NO RAZA were very good , would like to see them nominated for a cripper , if that is possible .
No Raza was great but i think they were on boat few years ago, hence not eligible (not their first time).metalforever wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 7:10 am I also agree , NO RAZA were very good , would like to see them nominated for a cripper , if that is possible .
well that sucks. I don't wanna vote for any of that other junk. But I'm an American, so I'm used to voting for junk.Ethrivas wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 7:31 amNo Raza was great but i think they were on boat few years ago, hence not eligible (not their first time).metalforever wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 7:10 am I also agree , NO RAZA were very good , would like to see them nominated for a cripper , if that is possible .

Not only they surpass the 10k listeners, they have already become "quite famous" with their latest album before they got on the boat
I'd accept the last.fm listeners as a valid reason, but just because a band gets well known due to an album release shouldn't render them ineligible in and of itself. (But of course that probably drove their listener numbers up...)
