Whoa! Nice work Rob! We're all going to be so fit come cruise time!

I am excited that I can train again! Got the results from my lingering four month injury yesterday. Turns out that it wasn't a meniscus injury, but it was a strained hamstring at the point where they connect at the back of the knee. YAY! So if you ever injure your hamstring, I HIGHLY recommend you let it heal 100% before you resume exercise.

Some people just have high metabolisms. Ron was that way until he hit 40. He burned calories just sitting there! Pfft!

We are on Day 13 now, and I FINALLY lost 3 lbs! The clothes are fitting a bit looser, and I'm not sore all over after each workout. LOL

You shouldn't feel bad about 3 pounds in 13 days, thats perfect. I've been going for 4 months now and have just barely lost over 20.

Nice work Carrie! Isn't it great when stuff that hurt at first stops hurting and ya feel like you could push harder/further? Love it!

Okay so, I think I need some help/advice here...

I've had some kind of weird nagging/persistent calf injury for the past 4 weeks or so and all attempts to address it so far have failed.

Ahh, fuck it. I'm gonna go find a runners' forum and post it there. Just makes more sense.

Gewd luck dewd.

I've been loving my new bicycle! The last five days or so I've gotten maybe 60k on it, with some plans for a few weekend rides coming up as well.
Between that, work (which has been ridiculously stressful this week), spanish class, band practice, sleep, general guitar practice, and watching boardwalk empire I've had a pretty non-stop week!

Not a lot of time for socializing or spending time with m'lady... must do those things on the weekend!

Ran 20.5 miles this morning. About 19 miles of it was in the rain and around 50 degrees F. Not a fun time. I'm training for my second marathon which is in about 3 weeks.

i ran for a little while and i came to find that calf and sometimes ankle issues were a result of:

insufficient stretching (just when you think you've stretched enough, must stop about a mile in or part way through the run and stretch again and of course after the run)
stride/gate being uneven (one leg slightly longer or stronger than the other resulting in a stress on the other leg)
hip uneveness or poor posture can do funny things
shoe fit/form/support. too much support in the shoe and too much "shaping" in the sole can actually make the body have to make weird adjustments and can stress the calf.

head/cold on the muscle each day during rest. sometimes a week of doing a DIFFERENT exercise can help, not running for a while until you heal and balance yourself - bike, swim, etc instead.

Due to my recent "close calls" at Cedar Point this weekend (Top Thril Dragster and Millenium Force buckles BARELY fitting) and not being able to get on Wicked Twister (never had that with any coaster in my life to date), I'm officially depriving myself in the name of "Coaster Fittage".

Besides, the looser the restraint, the more airtime you get. Heart disease and all those others diseases - BAH. You tell me I can't ride some roller coasters, and then you got my attention!!!!!!

Holy crap! That's a whole LOT o' running! Good luck and have fun in your marathon!!

I see a physio/chiro/running specialist Tuesday morning about my calf situation. Can't wait! Haven't run since last Monday and I'm losing my mind over it a little :?

yeah, that's hardcore! 3 miles is my limit before shinsplints drop me

I used to get shinsplints all the time till I bought me a REAL pair of running shoes. Never buy your running shoes at a dept store, always go to a specialty running store. They're more expensive but well worth the money.

It's a common issue with the slightly older Intamin rides. They had issues with people falling out (other parks, not Cedar Point), hence the shortened belts. But the new restraints they use on Maverick (same ride manufacturer, Intamin) fits easily and with plenty of room.

Which is a good thing for my planned Hersheypark trip next year. They have 3 new-ish Intamin coasters with that restraint that I have not rode yet :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger:

WizardBeast wrote:i ran for a little while and i came to find that calf and sometimes ankle issues were a result of:

insufficient stretching (just when you think you've stretched enough, must stop about a mile in or part way through the run and stretch again and of course after the run)
stride/gate being uneven (one leg slightly longer or stronger than the other resulting in a stress on the other leg)
hip uneveness or poor posture can do funny things
shoe fit/form/support. too much support in the shoe and too much "shaping" in the sole can actually make the body have to make weird adjustments and can stress the calf.

head/cold on the muscle each day during rest. sometimes a week of doing a DIFFERENT exercise can help, not running for a while until you heal and balance yourself - bike, swim, etc instead.

Lots of great points Rhia, thanks! I'm off to a chiro/physio guy in the morning who specializes in running/sport related injuries etc and will hopefully be able to narrow it down to 1 or 2 of the areas you mentioned. I feel almost 100% for about half the day now and am limping a bit to a lot for the other half. I know I'll 'feel' healed in a few more days but I'm determined not to have this happen again if I can help it so hopefully an accurate diagnosis of what and how will contribute to that.

Good luck Kev! I hate to hear of you missing out on any fun in your adventure travels. Do whatcha gotta do bro!

Thankfully the ride that I didn't fit on was a type of ride I rode before, so it wasn't any real loss except for the fact that I can't add it to the "coaster count".

Inspiration comes in weird ways, and this seems to HIGHLY inspire me. Plus, the less of me there is, the more AIRTIME (Negative G's) I'll also get on the wooden coasters :headbanger:

Just got back from running my second marathon in Indianapolis. I ran it in 3:30:28 taking 21 minutes of my first marathon. Another 5 minutes faster and I would've qualified for Boston. Maybe the next one. I'm tired and extremely sore, and it was cold and windy, but still a good day. Ready for beer. :chug:

I think my metabolism just got a huge kick. A co-oping student and I had to run to the courthouse before it closed in order to deliver a motion. He was new, and I was the company's designated runner for situations like this, so when he brought up the idea of running, I just said, "Excellent. Don't worry about me. Just run and I'll keep up."
He was very fast and I could barely stay with him. About 80% of the way down, he wasn't even in my field of vision. I couldn't even run up the stairs leading to the front door by the time we got there. It hurt to breathe, and I was coughing constantly. Once we were going through security, I sputtered "Don't... wait... for me... Go on ahead..."

I just weighed myself yesterday and I was happy to see that I've lost 25 pounds since March. Still got a few to go, but it's nice to know that I actually am finally making progress. :deathhorns:
