Something tells me you guys need to focus on getting your paperwork out in time so running isn't necessary. Not like your clients are depending on you or anything. :P

Yeah. My bosses aren't very good at that. One of our secretaries rolls her eyes when she finds out they made me run again. Plus, the student I ran with was making mistakes left and right in the preparation of the document, so getting it ready took forever.

What do you mean by intern? Assuming I stay single for the rest of my life, and never find a job I'm more passionate about, this could very well be my career. Still, after the dinner with my boss and my father, my boss does think I'd make a good judge (thoughtful smiley).

Well I was playing hockey 2 or 3 times a week for a while, but they say losing weight is 80% diet and 20% excersize or something like that. All I've been doing is eating better. I'm not exactly "on a diet" it's more I've made a permanent change in my eating habits. I completely stopped drinking coca cola and at work I just drink boatloads of tea now, as soon as I did that I lost 10 pounds lalmost instantly. And since then I only eat what I need and I don't eat crappy things like potato chips. Little things like leaving food on the plate when your at a restaraunt and your full, or when drinks are free refills don't keep drinking it. I haven't even really been calorie counting I just use common sense. I haven't really drank much lately either, in the past 2 months I think I've gotten drunk once and it wasn't even that much, I just had some sambuca and got a buzz going. Turns out losing weight isn't as hard as I thought :givebeer:

I guess they would count as interns. We usually just refer to them as students, but we don't pay them, so I guess they're interns.

I call! Actually I originally set out to lose 45 by cruise time but I'd be happy with 40 for sure.

Only in Sweden. Damn! Back here, I have to settle for Lady Gaga, if I'm lucky, and autotuned hip hop techno remixes if I'm not. That's pretty much why I cancelled my gym membership. I sweat far more in taekwando anyway.

Lots of stretching before and after workouts, drink lots of water and, if those aren't enough, Kevin recommended something to me I wish I'd bought when he first mentioned it cuz they're cheap and kick as on that acid left behind in our muscles after workouts...

Foam Roller

There's lots of cool looking ones at that link. I may have to upgrade. But the one I've been using is just a 2 foot long cylinder like the pic below

You should drink water before and during your wookouts but afterwards chocolate milk, believe it or not, will help your muscles recover faster. Also eating a banana and/or a bagel within the first 30 minutes also helps.

I'm with ya on everything but the chocolate milk. Why all the sugar and extra fat when you can the good parts (complex carbs and proteins) from a good smoothie?

You should drink water before and during your wookouts but afterwards chocolate milk, believe it or not, will help your muscles recover faster. Also eating a banana and/or a bagel within the first 30 minutes also helps.

I'm with ya on everything but the chocolate milk. Why all the sugar and extra fat when you can the good parts (complex carbs and proteins) from a good smoothie?

or just a good post workout protein shake

I know it's not really the same thing but that's what I meant. I call my shakes smoothies cuz they're basically fruits, veggies and protein powder :beerbang:

Thanks guys, I honestly didn't think anyone would have anything, I should have asked last week. I woke up sore today but I can still walk so not as bad as I was expecting and I should still be able to get through Body Pump this morning.

Sounds interesting, I have this week off work so I brought some apple juice, mango sorbet (wanted frozen yohgert but couldn't find any), mangos and strawberries to make smoothies, I've never made a smoothie before so I hope it works.

Won't know for sure until I'm back up to 15k+ distances but am stoked to report that I've been running gradually faster further distances over the past week since all the physio and all seems well. Biggest challenge is gonna be not doing too much too soon which sucks but I just have to stay grateful for the fact that I'm actually running again. Also managed to do enough crunches and other stuff while I was injured to keep my weight down so am hopeful that the return to running will result in even better gains (should say losses) in that department. There could be shirtless penguin pics in your future yet folks ;)

Hey - that's awesome, Rob. Glad to hear you're back running again. Injuries suck! Running's so weird in that it's a pretty addictive thing for many of us, and when you CAN'T run because of some annoying injury or something, it gets really demoralizing. I've so been there.

Take your recovery slowly and be patient with yourself. You have the rest of your life to run...enjoy every moment.

(And now, this ultrarunner goes back to her regularly scheduled lurking...and possibly is heading out for a run in the snow...)

Thanks Steph! Was gonna send you a longer, detailed account of it all once I became more confident that the injury's not gonna recur right away. Basically doing about 20 minutes of physio based glue exercises every day, only 10 minutes of them on run days and a new stretch added to my pre-run warm up stretches. You're sure bang on about the addictive nature thing. Being back out there just has such an incredible impact on my overall mood and outlook while being out of commission just sucked total ass.

I've never run in the snow. Sounds dangerous but fun (like any other kind of running haha)
