One of the oldest still active metal bands in Canada, I think only Rush, Thor, Exciter and a one or two others are older. Formed in 80. Old School, till you remember there was no school back then!

Progressive Blacken Death metal with some impressive bass work at times. Almost like an Atheist and Death worship fest. Some Chuck Schuldiner riffage going on for sure. Singer has poor diction in both black and Death mode to me, but the music seems solid enough to mention for others. From Montreal,

Zion's Abyss is long gone as far as I know, but you might have insider info. There are too many new up and coming bands around for me to fart around with bands that called it quits. I did like their singer and a couple of their non balladly tunes. Striker is a cool band, they remind me of bands like Enforcer and Cauldron. ( RIP Goat Horn ) I would like to see them live one day, not sure if they have ever come south of the border.

Musically Mortillery sounds like a ton of trash bands so if they are just "adequate" then there are a lot of adequate bands out there, guess since I am not a musician I don't pick up on their flaws, and can dig them. I think her voice gives them a special edge.

I think she sounds like a cross between the old singer Erika from Ignitor and Slymenstra Hymen. I really dig her voice and the way she structures her vocals. I really don't judge bands on their live performances usually cause it's the albums I listen to everyday. Plus if I did, I wound have given up on Nevermore and Sanctuary a long time ago for all the times I saw Warrel too fucked up to stand. =-P

Honestly from the few Mortillery songs I heard and the few Striker songs I heard, if I had to pick an album to buy right now, it would be Mortillery, cause I can't really go out and get an album with a someone with a voice like hers. Where as I know a few bands that could give me a Striker fix. Guess I am just weird! =-P

Thats the beauty of metal, your adequate band could be someone else's next favorite band.

I wasn't blown away by Mortillery. They put on an alright show and it was entertaining at least. I have their CD and I've listened to it a few times. S'aight.
Honestly all I really clearly remember about Mortillery was that one girl was really nice and she was really cute in her Pocahontas costume.

The singer from Mortillary tried out for Samandriel and we were honestly repulsed by her voice. I Don't like her vocals much at all, Striker is the best new band in Canada I think. Zions Abyss ended in the mid 90's when their guitarist was killed, but their album is better than 95% of other metal from this country. I play in an ozzy cover band with the old bassist and drummer, they've got lots of stories.

Here's a new band from Calgary, they are fucking killer! Vocalist gives me major John Cyriis and Rick Myathiasin vibes, perfect!

repulsed seems harsh to me. i think she sounds pretty awesome on recording. i can see how that wouldn't fit with Samandriel....but with her band she's pretty cool. they're not really doing anything very original but she has some lungs!

Yeah, that was a rather harsh word to use, should have chosen my words better. Regardless, she sounded terrible with our band and left a pretty lasting impression on me with regards to her own projects, it was my first time hearing her at that point. She's a person that I know and I'm friendly with, but we've both come to terms with the fact that we're simply not into each others music. I will say that she has excellent work ethic and she's worked her ass off in her bands so that's respectable. I'm very picky when it comes to vocals, everyone knows that by now. I will listen past sub-par riffs and songs if the vocals are up my alley.

I gotta agree with Jeffie on Mortillery. Besides the dumb as hell band name, I don't find her vocals remarkable in any fashion. Seems fairly run of the mill (on a good day).
Musically they bore the piss out of me.

Battle Beast - I couldn't really judge her voice as I could only last 45 seconds on that video. Show Me How to Die sounds like a totally different band. Better song, but not my thing.

Tales of Medusa sounds like typical Jeffie "wank material". Not surprised he's humping those cassettes and not broads on the weekend

yeah the music is very run of the mill. i just don't think she's "repulsive" and i dig what she's doing vocally anyway.
