FINALLY a real trailer for The Hobbit!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM--4UklaL4&
I'm excited... REALLY excited! If the world ends the day after it opens, my ONLY lament will be that part 2 wasn't finished yet!

Like just about everything, I'll wait until both come out on blu-ray. However, I really can't think about anything beyond January. I refuse to make any plans beyond the cruise, just in case I don't make it back.

Gotta remember to read the book again not long before it comes out. I may actually wait until Part 2 is released so I can watch both in succession.

Thinking about it, I may actually just wait until an extended version is released like with the Lord of the Rings films. Didn't see any of them until getting the extended versions. I saw the theatrical versions at some point and couldn't sit through them because of how much was left out. I want more Middle-Earth!

I didn't really care for the things left out - neither did I mind the things they put in
it was just too good to complain about

yeah, I noticed a few things while sitting in the theater... but they didn't bring down some of the best theatrical experiences of my life... I trust Peter Jackson to do the same with the Hobbit, and I'm sure I'll be just as thrilled... of course, as 2 movies, I imagine there can't possibly be much left out (I also read somewhere that appropriate stories from The Silmarillion were incorporated, so that could be cool, too)

I'm curious if that infamous mountain Peter Jackson uses in every film he makes will have a guest appearance.

Absolutely, it definitely deserves the big screen experience. I know I'll be hitting the local IMAX for it that's for sure.

Well, let's see, Kate's already been creeped on, so...

I did see Avatar in 3D at an IMAX. While I thought the 3D was spectacular, I thought the movie was very formulaic and boring.

This topic did remind me of one of the funniest things. Went to see Fellowship of the Ring in a theater, and during the "scare" part where Bilbo morphs and reaches out for the ring, the HUGE black man, built like an NFL lineman, screamed like an 8 year-old girl. I swear, I was laughing so hard, I was crying. I missed like 15 minutes of the movie because I was trying to keep the laughter in, and it just made things worse. I was mostly silent, but just shaking and crying with laughter. People all up and down the row were wondering why their seats were vibrating. Oh, it's still so funny to me when I think about it.

Re on 3D: I think it's a cool idea, but the glasses annoy the crap out of me and it's all I think of while watching the movie, so it makes it a bit hard to enjoy. And I think smells need to be incorporated into movies, too, to make it more realistic. But not just the good ones. All of them. Ya gotta commit!. Hah, horror movies would be pretty interesting .

Found out last year that you need 2 functional eyes for 3d to be perceived. So sadly, when I watch anything 3d, it just looks all blurry because one of my eyes is a lot more dominant than the other.

one of my buddy's Dad absolutely loves those movies, and a couple years ago this theater outside Philadelphia had a father's day showing of all 3 extended editions back to back... so he brought his dad to that... that is SO much time in the theater for 1 day haha, craziness!

I'd love to try, nut I don't know it I could do it... though, they did have intermissions and a lunch break... I'll see if someday all 5 movies get the treatment (20 hours of viewing lol)

That sounds like a lot of fun. Tried it before but only got through two before having to take a break.
