I also forgot to mention how interesting I found the Canadian fans booing the US in the Juniors to be. There seems to be real dislike of the US. Meanwhile, when it's Canadians in the US, we mainly react with indifference, or mostly rooting for them. Seems like the Canadians have an inferiority complex, while the US is just "meh" about Canada.

Not really looking forward to the Czech/Canada back-to-back. I guess the important one is to be the Czechs and hope they win a tie-breaker, since Finland gets their bye (Denmark) today.

Reminds me of Montreal fans booing the US national anthem before a game against the Bruins. The Boston fans one upped them and gave Oh, Canada a standing ovation.

I've had this game on my radar for quite some time. ;) I was going to wait until tomorrow to mention anything. Hopefully Dallas gets their game together, and Lehtonen is a little sharper than he was in his first game back.

LOL, that looks a crackup, will have to catch that one.

So the US is pretty much sunk in the WHJ unless Denmark pull out a miraculous 2 period and come back from 3 goals down against the Fins. Not gonna happen methinks. Should be interesting to see which team Canada puts out on the ice, full squad or rest some of their big guns?

Yep, the US screwed the pooch at the WJC, they're out of the medal round. Canada may rest some of their talent to avoid potential injury. Won't matter who Canada plays, I doubt the US could beat Canada's second team, this year. Young US club, several players will be back next year, a year older & wiser (and better). Starting with John Gibson, hopefully.

Ok.. ok..

USA vs Canada tonight here in Edmonton....... Gonna be a RAGER!

There's a huge beer garden next to the arena, that opens at 10am. The crowd is going to be fuelled and the US are going to be angry--- and they'll play angry, which means dangerous. To all US fans that may get to watch the game, I will, in advance, apologize for the the way the crowd will boo all things US today-they will boo your anthem, and be nasty to the players.

I love hockey, I love Canada, but I fucking hate Canadian Hockey Fans--LOL. I am probably not going to go to my bar o watch the game, as they will get the "hockey crowd" --I deal with enough assholes every day, don't need any more

:pound:

Should be a great game--fast,hardhitting, raucous! Best luck to both teams.

HTC going great so far. First 2 games in the 3rd period and no penalty to Perry and Dallas kicking Boston's furry asses!! Keep 'em both that way and I'm 2 for 2 going into the Canuck game the watching of which is my NYE excitement seeing as the US has brought nothing to this tournament and Canada are killing them as I watch the first period (PVR).

C'mon hockey gods. Ya killed me in game 7 of the playoffs. Let me have this last day of the year k?

Good luck to you all in HTC and to your NHL teams in 2012. 2011 was more fun thanks to this thread. Oh and, for that good luck bit, that's for everyone but Ryan's Bruins. Have I mentioned I hate those guys?

Wooohooo HT!!

Congrats to team Sweden on an amazing comeback from down 3-0 to Russia half way through the game to a 4-3 final in OT.

Canada's gonna have a much tougher time with the rest of their opponents than the competition they faced so far.

That was huge! So, here goes.. Quarters on Monday: FIN vs. SVK, winner plays SWE on Tuesday in Semis. Quarters on Monday: RUS vs. CZE, winner plays CAN on Tuesday in Semis.

SUCK IT, BRUINS! And Swifty!

Sure you can win 7-in-a-row in the East, but come to the West and get handled.

Only meeting this year. I have bragging rights!

We've still got the cup :P

Didn't see the game but looks like Dallas dominated that one. Not a good start since the holiday break for the B's as they looked off in the victory against Phoenix earlier in the week. Figure they'd come down to earth at some point.

Don't worry Rob. The Canucks will rip your heart out again soon just like every year :death:

Well, oddly, Luongo was the only one to show up vs the bottom feeder Kings last night and we got our asses handed to us. Got my HT in the bag by the end of the 2nd period

Here's my prediction Ryan: Dallas vs Vancouver for the West and Philly vs Rangers for the East. I may get my heart torn out but at least I won't be golfing as early as you :P

So I'm not going to pick the Bruins again in anything. Everytime I have so far they let me down. Good job on the HT Rob. Tonight's a funny one with every pick being Preds/Flames. I guess everyone knows my answer to number 3. :D

Wow. That's a lot of faith in Dallas (and Vancouver). I should revisit my playoff picks for the season. The Kings are just not the team I thought they were going to be. Of course, as tight as everything is, there's plenty of time for them to right the ship.

Yeah, I fuckin' hate when people do that. It's a minority who do it, by the way, people are generally respectful of the national anthems. Actually, I've never seen other games than the Bruins' where the anthem was booed, so I guess it's just directed towards the team. The move remains stupid, and I strongly disagree with it, as most Quebeckers do. Bruins fans don't have that much of a lesson to give about being classy, anyway, they're probably the most unclassy crowd in the league, tied with... Montreal! ;)

I love heckling opposing fans but there are limits. I'd say stuff playfully but calling him really derogatory terms and throwing biers and pushing him goes way over the line though. I'm sure it happens in other places too but doesn't make it right. There are supposedly always fights that break out in the stands too. Needless to say, Boston and Montreal hate each other  Never been to a Bruins/Habs game but I'd certainly love to. Maybe even invade your team's arena up in Montreal ;)

I didn't have a problem when I followed the Stars on a West Coast swing. Didn't epect much in Anaheim and LA, but was a little wary going into San Jose, especially since I was wearing a Belfour jersey.

If I was going to do something like wearing a Montreal sweater in Boston, or vice versa, I would probably wear some adult diapers to avoid the pissers.

I actually know someone who did this for a Stanley Cup Finals game. Didn't work out as planned.

Never been to a road hockey game but I've been to road baseball, football and basketball games and never had a problem. It's fun to trade playful verbal insults with opposing fans. Thing is, a lot of New Englanders move to other locales and they have a very wide ranging fanbase so in some instances the Boston fans outnumbered the home ones. Feels a lot safer when you are surrounded by familiar fans.

To be honest, I've never seen an instance of arguments and over the top heckling between fans in all the games I've gone to in any sport. The closest was outside the stadium after a Red Sox/Yankees game but the guy being threatened was a Yankee fan friend of mine so the group of us all stood up for him and got the dumbass drunks away. He would've beaten the ever loving shit out of them anyways.

Almost time for the Winter Classic. Hope the ice is in better condition this year than last year's was. It's been really warm in the Northeast this winter. Guess we'll have to see.

I've read a lot of people shitting all over the idea but I think it's a great little novelty game. Gives it exposure to non hockey fans which could help the game in the long run.

I love the classic

Went under on the total shots question though cuz the ice conditions are always less tha optimal and lots of pucks bounce wide of the net

What shots question? I've got will Giroux register a point, will Lundqvist make 25 saves and who will win.

Shots/Saves... Similar concept. Faulty logic on my part either way lol. Philly has 12 shots in the 1st period :?

I've got a yes on the 25 saves so good start! Now if Giroux can either set up or shoot one that gets by him and the Rangers win I'm golden!

Get those Broad Street Pussies off of this intermission presentation. Twats

I don't expect a very good game - but at least we're supporting "our" team again...

Hey scyll, is there anything to the unrest by Habs fans about Cunneyworth not speaking French or is that just the media being a bunch of dumbasses? I find the story to be quite hilarious.

Unrest? That's a bit extreme, but hey, you're a Bruins fans, after all...

Well the thing is, the media are trying to shake things a bit this year I guess, since we're probably gonna miss the playoffs. That said, most people don't like the fact that the coach can't speak a word of French, and I can only agree. I know it's not a reality Americans (or even English Canadians, sometimes) understand, but we are a french-speaking nation. While many of us can speak/write/understand English, some don't, and it's their right, since we function in French in our everyday lives. Hockey being a religion in here, it's kind of absurd to have all post-game explanations from the coach in English, so it's nothing against Cunneyworth, it's only really a matter of respect to the french-speaking fans in Quebec. Anyway, there will be a new coach at the end of the year, so I'm not really worried.

But there is no unrest, I'd simply call it an annoyance.

Oh, and Plekanec and Subban got into a fight during today's practice. God I hate Subban (probably at least one point we'll agree on), there, I said it.

This'll be fun

I used unrest to emulate the tone of the articles I've read. I assumed it was blown out of proportion overall. Personally, I think it's really dumb to require the coach to speak French and not hold the players to the same standard. I say the team goes all the way and only hires French speaking native Quebecers to preserve the "national identity" of the "nation's team." See how far they get then. Players have to give interviews and interact with the fans. Wouldn't want to offend somebody by having them not be able to speak to them without a translator. I really wouldn't care what language the coach speaks as long as he's qualified by being a good coach and he can reach the players. Then again, I'm not a Habs fan so I tend to be practical about things ;)

Glad you hate Subban too. See? You've got some hockey sense about you. He and Marchand are textbook agitators and great friends. I reacall a hilarious fight between the two earlier in the season that I'm pretty sure they just did for shits and giggles.

Ah, I love hating the Canadiens :D
